Chapter 16 - Chapter Sixteen

Selene's POV

After my call with Moss, I walked out of the isolated room and went to the next vip room where my supposed birthday party was supposed to take place.

Opening the door to the blaring sound of music, I could sense that a lot of people had come to celebrate me…. Leo's guests.

"Is she Luna Selene?" Someone questioned, and the music died down abruptly.

At last, some peace and quiet.

Raising my hands in a motive to get the mic, I suddenly felt footsteps rush towards me. Then, the cold hand of the microphone rested on my palm and I flashed a sweet smile to whoever brought the microphone.

"Thank you all for taking out your time to come here and celebrate with me. But there has been a misunderstanding. My birthday isn't today and that's why Alpha Leo didn't show up. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but the party is now over," I said boldly, my voice filled with nonchalance.

There were some odd groans of displeasure from the guests as they left the room, and in less than an hour, the vast VIP room was empty, the silence deafening.

I sat quietly in a shadowy corner, blending into the darkness. Hours passed, as I clutched my purse, my expression flat and void.

Leo…

He left me to be with Amelia on the so-called birthday he arranged for me. Our marriage was indeed a one-woman show, from the beginning to the bitter end.

My flight was scheduled to fly in the next two hours if I'm not mistaken, but there was a final thing I needed to do before I left. To draw a flawed curtain on their tragic farce.

At the stroke of midnight, the clock chimed.

Smiling faintly, I whispered wearily to myself, "Happy birthday, Selene."

Finally, it was time to leave Leo, we were officially done! Bitterness spread through my veins as I pressed my lips together and stepped into the night.

Silence engulfed me as I walked along the river. The cold wind stole my body's warmth but not the haze in my eyes.

Aimlessly, I wandered, my cane fitting the comfort of my stride, then suddenly, the sound of fireworks filled the environment.

Nearby voices buzzed with excitement.

"Oh my God, blue fireworks? Which rich wolf is making a grand romantic gesture tonight?"

"Girl, it's being streamed online! The lady is gorgeous, so lucky!"

"Comments say it's her birthday. This isn't just fireworks, it's pure love!"

"Whoa, they're hugging and now kissing. What a perfect match."

I stood at the side, listening to the cheers and fireworks, a soft smile settled on my face and I breathed calmly.

'Beautiful, isn't it? Such love is truly enviable.'

Just as I turned to leave, my phone rang, and the ringtone made me freeze.

It was the ringtone I set for Leo's call alone.

Why was he calling?

My hands began fidgeting as I pressed the receive button. Hearing the voice, my smile stiffened and I gulped nothing down my throat in annoyance.

"Selene, did you see the blue fireworks? Leo's celebrating my birthday tonight. He won't be coming home. He's staying with me through this long night. You'll be alone."

So it was them all along. The two perfect couple that hugged and kissed under the fireworks was them

Different emotions swirled through me but the dorminant ones were anger and feeling of disrespect. My nails dug deeply into my flesh and my breathing became haggard as I tried to control my emotion.

With one deep breath, I tried to calm myself. "Since he loves you so much, I'll let you have him."

"Huh?" Amelia mouthed in shock. "Wh… what do you mean?"

Twitching my lips, I repeated my words but this time, in a mocking tone. "I'm giving you Leo, Amelia. Free of charge just like I did with Lucas. Make sure you take good care of him."

Without hearing her response, I hung up. There was no need to hear her voice anymore, I was finally free.

Speed dialing another number, the caller picked up at the second ring. "Come pick me up at the pack house in the next hour, I'll be leaving from there."

I returned to the pack house a little after 1 am and went upstairs quietly to grab my suitcase while Chris waited outside with his car.

Stepping into the courtyard, I was hit by the scent of tulips from the garden.

Fresh, but nauseating. The smell was awful and it made me sick.

I heard Sarah's voice from behind as she greeted. "I hope you had a wonderful birthday, my lady. I just made some soup, and it's still warm. Would you like some?"

Sarah… indeed, was a good maid but I couldn't take her along with me. She belongs to the pack.

Ignoring her question, I walked past her and said carelessly. "Boil a pot of water for me. I'll need it soon."

"Water?" The maid questioned, quite surprised but quickly obliged. "Yes, your highness."

I strode through the hall and up to the second floor, where I had packed days before. Even with that, my smallest suit wasn't full.

It's quite funny, after three years, I was leaving just as empty-handed as when I came. An irony that only dwelled in my life.

Suddenly, my mind traveled to the sketchbook in the drawer in my room. Each page contained a drawing of Leo, memories of him he never knew existed.

Even though Leo forbade me from painting, claiming it was to protect me from pain or because he feared I'd get emotional and insecure, I still painted in secret.

But now, I see the truth, it was just a way to keep me down, so I wouldn't overshadow Amelia's art career.

Snorting coldly, I walked to my room, brought out the sketch book, and tore it.

Leo isn't worthy of my love or painting, nothing!

Next, I went to the closet and brought out the 'surprise' I had prepared and placed it on top of the bed.

"This is my last gift to you, Leo. You're going to love it," I murmured before dragging my suitcase with me.

The moment I got down from the stairs, I heard the pack maids gasp in surprise and Sarah rushed towards me, in surprise.

"My luna, what are you…?"

"Just staying with the Shaw family for a few days," I said carelessly. "Did you boil that water for me?"

Sarah nodded. "Yes, it's ready. I'll bring it now."

"Meet me by the garden with the water."

In a few minutes, she brought the pot, which was filled with scalding water, and gently handed it to me.

The floral scent of the flowers hit me hard again, and I frowned in annoyance.

Without hesitation, I poured the boiling water over every last tulip.

"Oh my goodness!" Sarah shrieked in horror. "You'll kill the flowers, Luna."

Yes, that was the intent… and guess what?

It was successful.

Handing the pot back to her, I shrugged my shoulders before replying to her coldly. "That's the point."

"But my lady…"

"No buts, Sarah, lead me back to the lounge," I said in an authoritative tone, and Sarah hesitated before grabbing my arms.

My phone buzzed and I pressed the receiving button, placing it to my ear.

"Where are you? I've been waiting outside. It's quite chilly," Chris groaned impatiently.

"Then come inside, I haven't packed my stuff yet," I said teasingly and I instinctively moved my phone from my ears to avoid the blaring yell that was about to come.

"Come on Selene! Are you kidding?" Chris yelled in frustration and I chuckled.

"I'll be right outside," I said, before ending the call.

"My lady," Sarah started and I raised my brow in question.

I had made the call in her presence, she was going to tell Leo about it.

"Where are you going with a suitcase at this time of the night?" Sarah questioned worriedly.

"Relax, I'm going to the Casper Villa for a little vacation. I miss Granny and I need to celebrate my birthday with her," I said, hoping she'd give in to my lie and let me leave before Leo gets here.

"But my lady… you're pregnant and it's not good to move by this time, I… should I follow you?"

"There's no need, Sarah," I mumbled, sliding my handbag across my body, picking up my suitcase. "I can manage."

Without waiting for her response, I walked out of the house and into Chris's car.

"Take me to the airport."
