Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight

Leo's POV

I drove into the pack house at exactly 11 in the morning, having spent all night at the pack clinic with Amelia.

A heaviness weighed on my eyelids, and I struggled to keep them open as I drove home. I hadn't been able to sleep much at the clinic because I needed to keep an eye on Amelia to ensure she was alright.

Fortunately, the physician discharged her this morning, and I personally dropped her off at her home before rushing back to the pack house to confront Selene.

Selene had humiliated Amelia in front of everyone, and she showed no remorse even after pushing her to the floor. I couldn't understand why she would do such a thing to Amelia .

I deserved an explanation for Selene's callous behavior.

As I stepped inside the house, a maid rushed towards me to acknowledge my presence, taking my coat.

I scanned the room, searching for her, but she was nowhere to be found.

I quickly asked the maids, "Where's my Luna?"

"The luna just came back," Sarah replied. "She seems to be taking a nap. Pregnant women need to rest adequately."

Furrowing my brows in suspicion, I pressed further, "She just got back?"

The maid hesitated, bowing slightly as she replied, "Yes, Alpha. I thought you knew about her arrival."

What arrival? What was she talking about?

Running my hands through my hair, I said, "Are you trying to say that she didn't sleep in the pack house overnight?"

"Y-yes, your highness. I had expected your return last night, and since neither of you returned after the ceremony, I assumed you both stayed at the Casper house and came back separately this morning," she explained quickly.

The air around me seemed to freeze as a cold chill ran down my spine.

How dare she?

Just because she was pregnant didn't mean she could come and go as she pleased. I didn't want her to tarnish my reputation as an Alpha with a helpless blind Luna.

"Damn it," I cursed under my breath, storming upstairs and heading straight for the bedroom.

When I pushed the bedroom door open, I was immediately confronted by an unpleasant sight.

Although sunlight poured in from outside, the curtains were drawn, leaving the room dim. As I scanned the room, I noticed her curled up on the bed, sleeping peacefully as if she hadn't caused any trouble.

I twitched my lips in anger and walked directly to the window, yanking the curtains aside and flooding the room with bright light.

My actions didn't wake her. I watched as she stirred slowly, furrowing her brows as she breathed deeply, still lost in sleep.

Standing over my mate of three years, my gaze softened as I looked at her long black hair scattered across half of her face.

She wore pure white silk pajamas with the collar slightly open, revealing a patch of flawless skin.

My throat ached with dryness, and I swallowed hard, trying to push aside the inappropriate thoughts that crept into my mind.

Yes, she was undeniably beautiful with a tempting body. There was no love in my heart for her, but damn... her body was incomparable.

I vividly recalled the day we got married, and on our consummation night, I had planned to punish her for what she did to Amelia by being rough.

But when I entered her, something pulled me back from carrying out my punishment.

She was a virgin.

An unexpected feeling cracked open inside me, softening my cruelty and replacing it with raw desire. Ever since that moment, I hadn't been able to get enough of her.

There was no doubt, I was infatuated with her body.

Sitting down slowly beside her, I reached out and brushed the hair from her brow. "Stay away from Amelia, and you'll always be my Luna."

After a deep sigh, I ran my tongue over my lips. There was no reason to disturb her sleep now, especially for the sake of the baby.

I would deal with her later.

As I rose slowly from the bed, my eyes caught sight of a coat lying at the foot of the bed.

It was a deep brown suit jacket.

Definitely not mine, since I hated anything brown. Who had given this coat to her?

Grinding my teeth, I clenched my fists in anger as I glared at the coat. My wolf, Kael, stirred in my mind, filled with raw possessiveness.

Who had dared to lay their filthy hands on my woman?

Anger rushed through me at the thought as I directed my gaze back to the sleeping woman on the bed. The gentle rise and fall of her chest did little to ease the uneasiness in my chest.

Conflicted thoughts and confusion swirled in my mind as I fought the urge to shake her awake and demand to know where the jacket came from.

My imagination ran wild as I pictured her wearing the coat.

I couldn't take it any longer.

With a loud scoff, I walked over to her and tapped her hard, causing her to jolt awake.

"Whose coat is this?" I demanded gruffly, pointing to the jacket still resting at the foot of the bed.

The look on her face was a mixture of tiredness and indifference. "The taxi driver lent it to me this morning, but I forgot to return it," she responded.

Taxi driver? That's unbelievable!

A frown settled on my face as I gazed at her. That was a damn Italian jacket, a foreign pack's product. It was worth more than a cab driver would make in a year except if he was into something more than driving.

Chuckling inwardly, I flicked my forehead. Why should I care about who gave it to her? Besides, no Influential werewolf or wealthy playboy would be interested in some blind, married woman who doesn't have an idea that I didn't love her.

These thoughts alone eased the tension that was brewing in me and I glanced back at Selene.

"Since you're awake, come with me to the Casper clan house," I announced and she grunted.

"What for?"

Sliding my hands into my pockets, I scoffed, "You pushed Amelia down the stairs last night. You owe her an apology."

"Huh?" Selene questioned, and her already pale face went ghost white. "I'm not going. Forget it." She reached out for her cane and stood up stubbornly from the bed to walk away.

Blocking her quickly, my brows knitted in impatience, "Selene, after what you did, Amelia's willing to forgive you. All she wants is an apology. What's your problem?"

A sudden cold smile curled on Selene's lips. "Because I'm just that cruel. Or didn't you know?"

How the heck was she making me so angry?

Pointing my fingers at her, I warned sternly, " Don't push me, Selene."

She went silent as she stood still, deep in her thoughts. Wondering what she was thinking, I tried to pry into her mind with my wolf but somehow, the connection was getting blocked. The more I tried, the farther it was to hear her thoughts.

"Fine." Selene said flatly, " I'll go."

I let out a slow sigh of relief as I smacked my lips. If she had refused, I didn't know how I'd make her obey me.

She was getting stubborn and loose these days, and I really wonder if it was just the pregnancy and nothing more.

The ride to the Casper house was silent, Selene didn't utter a word as she fixed her gaze blankly outside the window.

Sensing the suffocating mood, I tried to lighten it. "Selene, you know, when you mess up, you apologize. As my Luna, you owe me that much, and also the pack."

Even with my soothing words, there wasn't even a flinch from her. It was as though the silence increased its volume and I sighed in frustration.

Why was she being difficult? The mood was driving me crazy.

I couldn't take the silence anymore so I reached out to hold her hand, but she tried to pull away, and I tightened my grip around her, preventing her from letting go.

"Selene," I mumbled, feigning remorse. " I shouldn't have hit you yesterday. I lost control. I'm sorry."

All these were just a facade, I wasn't sorry about anything. She deserved it. But then, I didn't want her to have an idea that I was trying to protect Amelia.

"Leo," She finally voiced out and I stared at her. " If Amelia had pushed me down the stairs, would you have lost control and slapped her too?"

Those words hit me hard on my face and I fell silent.

How could I answer these questions truthfully without creating suspicion?

Selene's chuckle drifted me out of my thoughts, and she turned her face to the window, without speaking to me again.

Was she suspecting already?

We arrived at the Casper's villa quickly after and were ushered in by a maid who kept sneering and throwing disdainful glances at Selene .

My face darkened with a frown and she slunk away in embarrassment.

After she left, Amelia's sweet voice floated over. "Alpha Leo . You're here! Come in, I just finished a painting, come see if you like it."

Without hesitation, Amelia hooked her arm through mine and I bit my lips, recalling our last moment together.

Then her eyes landed on Selene , and she melted into my embrace like a startled bird. " Alpha Leo , why is Selene here?"

Stroking her back soothingly, I said, "Don't worry. She came to apologize."

Amelia nibbled her lip, her wide eyes in surprise. "But... I've already forgiven her. Really, alpha just let it go."

Shaking my head in disagreement, I retorted, "No way. She messed up, and just making her apology is going easy on her. I know you're pure hearted, but don't encourage her nasty habits."

Amelia nodded, taking a few steps forward. A sweet smile spread across her pretty face as she grasped Selene's hands. "Selene, I forgive you. We're still sisters, right?"

SMACK!

The next scene I saw caught me off guard as I stared at them in shock.

Selene had slapped Amelia.
