Chapter 75 - Director Ding’s Dinner

Li Zhiyan leaned against Sun Zhewen's chest and said softly, "I know. Zhewen, am I really not attractive in your eyes?" As she spoke, she gently stroked Sun Zhewen's face with her hand.

Sun Zhewen hurriedly replied, "How could that be? You're so beautiful—how could you not have any charm?"

"Then why have you never…?" A trace of disappointment flashed through Li Zhiyan's eyes as she added softly, "I already washed."

The room fell into a brief silence. Sun Zhewen bent down toward her.

More than an hour later, Li Zhiyan broke the silence again and said, "Zhewen, treat me as your woman."

Sun Zhewen was a little surprised and asked, "What's wrong?"

Li Zhiyan's eyes were full of longing as she said, "I want a child. Your child."

Sun Zhewen said worriedly, "Is your body okay now?"

Li Zhiyan asked anxiously, "Okay?"

Sun Zhewen frowned and said, "But if you have a child, what will you say then?"

Li Zhiyan said firmly, "They won't know it's yours."

Sun Zhewen still felt it was inappropriate and said, "You're too dangerous."

Li Zhiyan said, "At worst, I'll go abroad. But before I leave, I still want to tear a chunk of flesh off the Liu family."

Sun Zhewen gently stroked her hair and said, "Let's talk about the child later."

Li Zhiyan looked a little disappointed and said, "Then come back and live here."

Sun Zhewen showed an awkward expression and said, "This… with what identity would I come back?"

Li Zhiyan sighed and said, "Sigh, why did I agree to divorce him in the first place?"

Sun Zhewen asked, "Who exactly is he?"

Li Zhiyan kissed Sun Zhewen and said, "Be good. I can't tell you yet. When the time comes, I will."

Sun Zhewen said somewhat unhappily, "It's always like this."

Li Zhiyan hugged Sun Zhewen tightly and said, "Zhewen, I don't want you to worry too much. Be good, I'll tell you in the future."

Sun Zhewen sighed helplessly and said, "I just feel uncomfortable. He can just…"

Li Zhiyan pressed a finger against Sun Zhewen's lips and said, "Zhewen, I believe the sky will brighten."

Sun Zhewen held Li Zhiyan tightly and said, "I hope so."

Li Zhiyan said, "Zhewen, these days I've really been very scared. Every day I'm on edge."

Sun Zhewen clenched her hand tightly. His own strength was far too weak—forget the provincial level, even the Liu brothers could press him to death with a single finger.

Li Zhiyan said, "Sometimes I think, if back then I hadn't been dragged into all of this, and then I met you later, would we have been very happy?"

At this moment, Sun Zhewen's phone rang. "Director Ding, do you need something?"

"Oh, Director Sun, it's like this. I invited a few friends to get together tonight, and I'd like to invite you as well—come give us some face."

"Director Ding, you're my leader. If you've given an order, how could I dare not come?"

"Good. Then come to Lijing Garden. I'll be waiting for you there."

"Alright, I'll be there right away."

Sun Zhewen turned over and got out of bed. Li Zhiyan watched him get dressed. No matter how reluctant she felt, she could only let him go. Seeing that he was about to leave, she asked, "Will you come back tonight?"

Sun Zhewen thought for a moment and said, "Probably not. I don't know how long we'll be drinking with them. If I come back, you'd still have to take care of me, and that wouldn't be convenient for you either."

Li Zhiyan said quietly, "I want you to come back."

"Alright, I'll try to come back as early as possible."

Li Zhiyan ran over and kissed him. "I'll wait for you."

When he arrived at Lijing Garden, Sun Zhewen straightened his police uniform, took a deep breath, and then walked straight toward the reserved private room. He pushed open the door and saw Director Ding and several others already waiting inside.

When Director Ding saw Sun Zhewen come in, he stood up with a smile and introduced him to everyone. "This is Director Sun, the head of the Chengguan Police Station. Everyone has met him today—if anything comes up in the future, you'll need to rely on our Director Sun to support you."

Everyone chimed in one after another. "That goes without saying, of course."

Director Ding then continued the introductions. "This is Minister Du from the County Party Committee's Propaganda Department."Sun Zhewen carefully looked at Du Xiaoxuan—one of Secretary Liu's lovers. She indeed had some looks. Although she was a bit older, her delicate features still allowed one to imagine how charming she must have been in her younger days. Sun Zhewen couldn't help but feel secretly surprised that Director Ding actually knew her. Du Xiaoxuan nodded lightly, a hint of arrogance in her expression. Sun Zhewen hurriedly said, "Hello, Minister Du."

Director Ding went on. "This is President Li from the County Court."

Sun Zhewen quickly greeted him. "Hello, President Li."

President Li also nodded lightly, his face showing little expression.

"This is Song Qingyun, the boss from Huaiyuan. This is his cousin Wang Xiaohu. And this is Ailin from the Public Relations Department of Fengyun Group." Director Ding finished introducing the remaining people one by one. Sun Zhewen also paid a bit more attention to Ailin.

Ailin smiled and said, "Director Sun, you don't know me, but I know you. We even drank together at your wedding."

Sun Zhewen's heart jolted. For a moment he couldn't remember, but it was awkward to say so directly. He could only respond, "I have a bit of an impression, a bit."

Du Xiaoxuan suddenly asked, "Director Sun is already married?"

Sun Zhewen immediately felt embarrassed and didn't know how to answer. Ailin realized she had said the wrong thing and hurriedly added, "It's just a pity that Director Sun and our President Li only had a short-lived relationship."

"Oh? President Li is already a high-level executive at Fengyun. And you were willing to divorce her?" Du Xiaoxuan continued to press.

"We just had incompatible personalities," Sun Zhewen could only explain reluctantly.

"Oh? Not for any other reason?" Du Xiaoxuan pursued the matter relentlessly.

"No, no," Sun Zhewen waved his hands repeatedly.

"Oh, I thought there was some hidden story." At this moment, Du Xiaoxuan stood up, twisted her waist, and sat down next to Sun Zhewen as she spoke.

"There's no hidden story," Sun Zhewen said quickly, though his heart had already begun to race.

At this time, seeing that all the dishes had been served, Director Ding said, "Today we're all meeting here together. I hope everyone can help each other more in our work in the future."

"Definitely, definitely."

"You're too kind, Director Ding."

Everyone responded in agreement.

After three rounds of drinking, Du Xiaoxuan and Ailin fully displayed the roles of two social butterflies—one big and one small—constantly urging Boss Song to drink. Boss Song and his cousin were forced to fend them off, their faces full of helplessness. At this point, Sun Zhewen gradually understood: tonight was partly an introduction, so that Song Qingyun would receive more care in the future; the other purpose was probably that Du Xiaoxuan and Ailin had something they wanted from Song Qingyun.
