Chapter 64 - Let's Split Up

Sun Zhewen went to the police station first. As soon as he entered, Director Ding spotted him and immediately greeted him with a smile, asking, "Director Sun, have you finished your business?"

Sun Zhewen nodded in response, "Yes, I'm done. Does Director Ding need anything?"

Director Ding's expression turned serious, and he said, "It's like this, we just received a notice from the County Bureau. The Provincial Department is coming to our county for an inspection, to handle old, unsolved cases, suspicious cases, and major cases."

Sun Zhewen frowned slightly, asking, "Oh? When will they arrive?"

Director Ding thought for a moment and replied, "It should be next week, I think. The county wants us to be careful. This inspection by the Provincial Department is no small matter; our station can't afford to make any mistakes."

Sun Zhewen thought for a moment and said, "Our police station mainly deals with trivial matters. The unsolved cases are nothing more than thefts and such. They should be focusing on the Criminal Police Team, right?"

Director Ding nodded in agreement and continued, "Probably. The major and important cases of the Criminal Police Team are indeed the focus. But we can't be careless either. Although the work of the police station seems trivial, it's also the foundation for maintaining social order. If we mess up, it won't be easy to explain."

Sun Zhewen's expression was solemn. "Yes, you're right. Then we need to prepare in advance, sort out the work in the station, and see what areas need strengthening."

Director Ding said, "Yes, although we mostly deal with neighborhood disputes and petty theft, we can't be careless. Especially these days, we need to pay extra attention to public security."

Sun Zhewen said decisively, "Right, during this period, we'll increase the public security patrols on the streets. Anyone causing trouble, arrest them first."

Director Ding hesitated slightly, saying, "Sun, isn't it a bit too heavy-handed to just arrest them? How about we give a warning first, and then take mandatory measures if they don't listen?"

Sun Zhewen explained, "Director Ding, think about it, the Provincial Department is coming to inspect soon. We can't afford to slack off at this crucial moment. If we don't handle troublemakers promptly, it could blow up and have a bad impact. Arresting them first is also a deterrent, to keep others from causing trouble."

Director Ding listened, thought it made sense, and said, "Yes, Sun, you're right. Then we'll do as you say and increase the intensity of the public security patrols on the streets."

Sun Zhewen continued, "Also, we need to reorganize the files and case records in the station, making sure there are no omissions or errors."

Director Ding nodded, "I've already arranged for people to do that, don't worry."

Sun Zhewen thought again, "Right, the officers in the station also need to be vigilant during this period and can't afford to be lax in any way."

Director Ding said, "I'll hold a meeting to emphasize this to everyone. Sun, do you think we should organize some surprise inspections?"

Sun Zhewen thought for a moment and said, "Yes, we should focus on places where problems are likely to occur, such as internet cafes, bars, and rental houses."

Director Ding responded, "Alright, I'll arrange the specific inspection times and personnel."

Sun Zhewen instructed, "Be thorough, don't just go through the motions. Address any problems promptly."

Director Ding assured, "Don't worry, Sun. I understand the importance of this, and I'll definitely do my job well."

Sun Zhewen said, "Director Ding, thank you for your hard work. Our work in the precinct has always relied on your support and oversight."

Director Ding said with a smile, "Sun, you're too polite. We're all working for the job, for the peace and security of this jurisdiction."

Sun Zhewen sighed, "Yes, we bear a heavy responsibility. I hope this Provincial Department inspection goes smoothly, and that our precinct's work can reach a new level."

Director Ding said confidently, "As long as we work together, there's definitely no problem."

The two discussed some more details and then went to arrange their work. Back in his office, Sun Zhewen began to sort through some important files and documents.

After a while, Director Ding knocked and came in, saying, "Sun, I've been thinking, should we also communicate with the surrounding communities and villages and ask them to assist us in maintaining law and order?"

Sun Zhewen stopped his work and said, "That's a good idea. We can organize some public security awareness activities to improve residents' self-defense awareness."

Director Ding said, "Then I'll go contact the neighborhood committees and village committees to see how we can cooperate."

Sun Zhewen nodded and said, "Alright, thanks for your hard work, Director."

Director Ding waved his hand and turned to leave.

After work, Sun Zhewen returned to the home he once shared with Li Zhiyan. Li Zhiyan sat silently on the sofa, her gaze following him as he packed his things. He carried his suitcase downstairs slowly, his voice slightly low as he said, "Be safe at home, and take care."

Li Zhiyan's eyes immediately reddened, and her voice trembled slightly, "Your work is also dangerous, you must also pay attention to your safety."

"I know," Sun Zhewen replied softly. He walked to the door and, with his hand on the doorknob, was about to open it.

"Zhewen," Li Zhiyan's voice called out urgently. She suddenly threw herself at him, disregarding her usual reserve, and kissed Sun Zhewen passionately, murmuring, "Zhewen, Zhewen."

After a long time, she slowly stepped back and whispered, "Be careful on the road."

"Yeah." Sun Zhewen pulled his suitcase and stood by the road, waiting for a taxi. Li Zhiyan stood quietly at the door, watching him get into the car until it disappeared from sight.

Sun Zhewen returned to his rented room, and a musty smell hit him in the face. He shook his head helplessly and began to tidy up the place. He hadn't been here for a while, and the room was particularly messy. He changed the bedding and then ordered takeout. After eating, he collapsed on the bed, not wanting to move. This daily life was like a chaotic play, with one troublesome thing after another happening constantly. At this moment, he longed to confide in someone, but found that he didn't have a suitable person around. Chen Qingyan was perhaps the most suitable listener, but he couldn't disturb her.

Just then, Liu Ruyue called: "Zhewen."

"Yes. Ruyue, what's up?" Sun Zhewen's voice was tinged with weariness.

"I'm going to Huangling tomorrow?" Liu Ruyue's voice held a hint of anticipation.

"So soon? Do you want me to see you off?" Sun Zhewen asked.

"No need, I'm in Haicheng, I'll go directly tomorrow." Liu Ruyue's tone was a little disappointed.

"Oh." Silence fell between them again.

"Zhewen, have you ever loved me?" Liu Ruyue's voice suddenly became a little sharp.

Sun Zhewen was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "I don't know."

"I see." Liu Ruyue said lightly, "My family has introduced me to someone."

"Congratulations." Sun Zhewen's voice was without any emotion.
