Chapter 41 - Qingyan's Invitation

Sun Zhewen drove to the entrance of the apartment complex. In the night, Chen Qingyan ran out from under the trees, a bright smile on her face. She got into the car and without hesitation, hugged Sun Zhewen, giving him a passionate kiss. Sun Zhewen was a little overwhelmed by her enthusiasm and gently pushed her away, laughing, "Let's go inside first."

"Okay," Chen Qingyan released him, her eyes shining with anticipation.

Once inside, Sun Zhewen looked at Chen Qingyan, feeling a little hesitant, but he still said, "I'll give you a key."

Chen Qingyan shook her head, smiling. "Don't give it to me. Change the lock to a smart lock sometime. If he sees me with an extra key, it won't be easy to explain."

Sun Zhewen nodded, feeling a touch of warmth at her thoughtfulness. "Alright."

Qingyan leaned in close, her voice like a gentle breeze, "Zhewen, I don't know what's gotten into me today. I really, really wanted to see you."

Sun Zhewen smiled and put his arm around her shoulders. "What's with you and your little head today, being so clingy?"

After a long while, the two were lying on the bed. Qingyan suddenly remembered something and turned to ask, "Zhewen, do you know who the person my cousin is seeing this time is?"

Sun Zhewen frowned. "I don't know. She didn't say, and I didn't want to pry. She just told me it was an official from the province, but only a few people could influence the Women's Federation. I feel like we owe her. She has to go and spend two days with him every month now."

Chen Qingyan grabbed Sun Zhewen's hand, a flicker of unease in her eyes. "How could this happen?"

Sun Zhewen sighed. "Because she went with him, but he didn't agree. I don't know who suggested the two days a month thing later, but that's when he agreed."

Chen Qingyan's gaze hardened. "Zhewen, we owe her. We'll try our best to make it up to her."

Sun Zhewen shook his head. "Maybe we can't. She wants me to treat her as a resource, a resource for my promotion."

Chen Qingyan's eyes widened in surprise. "Ah, how could she do that?"

Sun Zhewen continued, "And last week, after Liu Qunqi... after they were together, her stomach started hurting. She went to the hospital for a checkup but didn't dare to take any medicine. She came back today, and her stomach still hurts."

Chen Qingyan frowned. "Right, she shouldn't be... intimate with anyone right now."

Sun Zhewen spread his hands helplessly. "So, we can't pay her back, huh?"

Chen Qingyan took a deep breath, determination flashing in her eyes. "Zhewen."

Sun Zhewen looked at her, a complex mix of emotions in his eyes. "She said if I want to save her, I have to fight my way up, climb higher, surpass these people. Only then is there a chance to save her."

Chen Qingyan bit her lip and suddenly moved closer to Sun Zhewen. "Zhewen, let's not go back tonight, okay?"

Sun Zhewen hesitated slightly. "What if he…"

Chen Qingyan wrapped her arms around Sun Zhewen's neck, a resolute light in her eyes. "I don't care. I don't want to go back tonight. I want to be with you."

Sun Zhewen frowned slightly, gently stroking her hair. His voice held a hint of hesitation. "But Zhiyan, she's not well."

Chen Qingyan's eyes sharpened instantly, a touch of bitterness in her voice. "Do you like her?"

Sun Zhewen shook his head quickly, a helpless smile playing on his lips. "How could that be? She's helped us so much; I'm not heartless."

Chen Qingyan's gaze softened, but a hint of unease remained in her voice. "Zhewen, I know you're kind, and I know we owe her. But you can't like her, you understand? And you definitely can't abandon me."

Sun Zhewen looked at her with deep affection, his voice firm. "I won't."

Chen Qingyan pursed her lips, letting out a soft hum. "Men's words are just lies."

Sun Zhewen pulled her into his arms, whispering, "Qingyan, I really love you."

Chen Qingyan's cheeks flushed slightly, and she playfully pushed him away. "Oh, stop it, don't touch me all over."

An hour later, Chen Qingyan sighed softly, a touch of helplessness in her tone. "Let's go back. She really does need you to keep her company."

Sun Zhewen nodded, looking at her tenderly. "Yeah, I'll take you."

Chen Qingyan shook her head, smiling. "No need, I'll take a taxi back later. You go home early, and remember to change the locks when you have time."

Sun Zhewen gently held her hand, his eyes full of concern. "Okay."

Back home, Sun Zhewen was still worried about Li Zhiyan. He softly pushed open the door and went in, but she wasn't asleep. Instead, she was leaning against the headboard, looking a bit tired.

Sun Zhewen walked to her bedside and asked with concern, "I was worried about you, so I came to check."

Li Zhiyan frowned, a hint of sharpness in her eyes. "You went to see my sister? And did something bad?"

Sun Zhewen scratched his head, feeling a little awkward. He mumbled, "Yeah."

Li Zhiyan rolled her eyes, her tone teasing. "You really are a good man, not even forgetting to confess the bad things."

Sun Zhewen smiled wryly, shook his head, sat on the edge of the bed, and said softly, "I just feel like we owe you too much, and I don't want you to be sad alone."

Li Zhiyan stood by the window, sunlight streaming through the curtains and across her shoulders. A mischievous smile played on her face. "Don't get my sister pregnant. She can't have a baby right now."

Sun Zhewen choked on his own spit, nearly falling off the bed. He quickly nodded. "I know, I know."

Li Zhiyan turned around. "I've been thinking about how to pave the way for you since you left. You need to get my sister to get you transferred to Chengguan Town as soon as possible, and not just any position. Even if you have to use money, you have to get in. I think it's best if you become a Deputy Director of the Party and Government Office, or a Deputy Director of the Police Station, something like that. You can't stay at the Women's Federation any longer."

Sun Zhewen frowned. "But there might not be any of those positions available."

Li Zhiyan clapped her hands, her eyes widening. "Have my sister do it! If there aren't any positions, doesn't she know how to create one?"

Sun Zhewen helplessly spread his hands. "Your sister's only been there for a few days. Isn't that a bit much?"

Li Zhiyan pouted, arms crossed, feigning dissatisfaction. "You only care about my sister. Why don't you ever care about me?"

Sun Zhewen quickly explained, "Zhiyan, I..."

Li Zhiyan waved her hand, interrupting him. "Forget it, you don't need to say anything. I know I'm not good enough for you, but I can do some things for you that my sister can't or won't."

Sun Zhewen felt a surge of emotion and softly called out, "Zhiyan."
