When Alastor and Alleria arrived back at the Quilton town, the soldiers and Royal guards were surprised to see the prince return with a beautiful elf but kept their questions to themselves.
In the mansion's solar now turned into a strategy room were gathered Alleria, Alyn and Alastor. Alyn looked at Alleria confused wondering how a scouting mission ended with his prince meeting a High Elf?
But his prince did say that she was an ally and if Alyn was anything it was loyal.
Alastor sat on one of the chairs alongside with the others as the table had a holographic map of the area displayed. "Alyn how was the evacuation?"
"Smoothly your highness, All the nearby settlements populace have been gathered in the town and await further orders"
"Good, how many able bodied soldiers do we have available right now?"
"Along with the 100 strong Royal guard under your command my lord, 2000 soldiers"
Alastor frowned the number wasn't optimistic. While Beastkin do not have much ranged options and mostly use melee weapons not only is the approaching herd much larger than the available forces.
But even the common Caprigors have strength, durability and endurance stronger than the average human not to mention Beastkin's savage instincts and bloodlust.
"What about contact to Westfall city, was my father and Duke Bolvar notified of the Warherd approaching?"
Alastor frowned as Alyn's expression went hesitant but he still replied. "My Prince...we haven't been able to get even a stable connection to contact Westfall"
"What?" Alastor was surprised alongside Alleria who grew thoughtful and looked at Alastor.
"We have sufficient grounds to believe that this is due to the Beastkin and considering how they aren't good at using technology it only leaves one way they might be able to block communications"
Alastor frowned as he realized what she was implying. "Bray-Shamans"
The Beastkin's equivalent of Mages.
Realizing that the reinforcement avenue was currently a dead end he looked at the things he had available before issuing orders.
"Alyn I want you to have 400 soldiers to accompany the civilians and provide protection for them, have them leave the town and head back to the nearest fortified settlement. Have them take appropriate amount of supplies as well"
Alastor knew he could have some of the civilians take up arms as Militia to supplement his forces but he refused. These people were not trained at all for a major battle and if they panicked it would lead to problems in the line for the regular soldiers.
The other reason was these people have no reason to pick up arms and risk their life needlessly, he will not have his subjects throw their lives away and leave behind loved ones for this.
Alyn hesitated but nodded while Alleria gave Alastor a glance as her eyes sparked with a hint of respect.
Alastor put 4 points on the Holographic map of the Town's walls and battlements. "I want 4 groups of 375 soldiers on these four points each point should also have 25 Honour guards each commanding 15 soldiers"
"The last 100 soldiers are to bring up and manage mortars to allow us some form of basic artillery support from behind"
Alastor gave further orders on their duties and responsibilities and despite this being his first engagement Alastor was able to formulate a effective plan and strategy unknowingly showing the common demeanour for War all Primarchs are known to have.
"But!....My prince if each group was to have 25 Honour Guard then who would protect you!?" Alyn asked a bit panicked.
"You don't have to worry about me Alyn just have your men focus on their duties and let's say this also has to do with the second half of my strategy"
Alyn couldn't help but feel that his liege was gonna do something reckless in the advent of the fighting.
"What about me?" Alleria asked. "You haven't given me a part in your plan?"
"First of all you're a Ranger Captain and much more experienced than me so I would rather not run the risk of embarrassing myself secondly if you do want some instructions..."
"Hit them fast, hit them hard. Target commanders mostly to break cohesion." Alastor smiled at her with a challenge "I heard Windrunners are masters of stealth and Hit-and-run tactics"
Alleria gave him a smile back. "I'm starting to like you more and more young prince" and with that Alleria disappeared with a swirl of green wind.
Alyn was wondering if it was just him or there seemed to be something subtle between his prince and Lady Windrunner?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It was tomorrow morning as the soldiers were rested and in position along with their Honour Guard commanders above the town's walls while Alastor and Alleria stood upon the Town's main gate as they looked from the battlements at the distant forest line.
The Civilians as well as their contingent of soldiers and supplies were sent off last night, the soldiers were also given a order to contact Westfall city as soon as they reach the closest fortified settlement and convey to them the situation and request a immediate mustering of a force for support.
"They're here" Alleria said as she drew her plasma bow. "How do you know?"
"It's the smell in the wind, Blood, filth and gore, it's synonymous to the Beasts"
Alastor was impressed he also felt their approach but mostly because of his Telepathy no matter she had her path to power and he had his.
Finally from the treeline the first of their kind approached from the dark of the forest Thousands emerged and soon it was obvious that there was more than ten thousand Beasts just from a rough estimate.
Gors, Brays, Ungors, Bestigors, Minotaurs, Centigors, Warhounds, Bray-Shamans just to name the ones they could see all clad in various degrees of armour wielding weapons with most of them being Melee weapons.
And in the middle of the army surrounded by Blood hungry Minotaurs was a Champion of a minotaur with a blood red skin and fur who was the leader of this Warherd.
A Doombull and a Champion of Khorne no less.
The Beastkin army looked at the town and roared with Bloodlust and Fervour while Alastor himself felt the nervousness of his soldiers and drew his blade as he used Psionic power to amplify his voice.
"For Humanity and the Lands of Stormwind! Kill these rabid beasts!" With his warcry and the natural charisma of a Primarch the mounting nervousness disappeared.
What replaced it was anger and resolve!
"FOR HUMANITY!"
