Chapter 4 - Small steps (Edited)

For the people of Stormwind—especially those who lived or worked within the royal palace—their second prince was nothing short of a miracle child, with quite a few believing he had been personally blessed by the Holy Light itself.

Three years had passed since Alastor's adoption into the royal family, and it did not take long for King Llane's intuition regarding the boy's extraordinary nature to be proven correct.

Most notable of all was Alastor's accelerated growth.

Though only three years old, he already possessed the appearance of a healthy six-year-old child, albeit one whose physical and mental capabilities would be considered prodigious—if not outright monstrous—even by Azerothian standards.

The reason was simple.

The human royal families, the vast majority of noble houses, and to a lesser extent even commoners, were descended from powerful bloodlines dating back to before the Iron Rebellion from those who had originally inhabited Azeroth.

Many among them carried the bloodlines of the Men of Gold and of people who had refined their genetics to extraordinary levels.

Because of this, while rare, it was not unheard of for even some commoners—especially young children—to display exceptional physical and mental capabilities even without training if they were fortunate enough to awaken their hidden genetic potential through stimulation, training, or even at birth itself.

Nobles, on the other hand, almost always possessed these traits from birth due to their stable genetic factors.

As for the royal families who ruled the kingdoms of humanity, they possessed those same genetic factors to an even greater degree.

So while Alastor displaying extraordinary abilities should not have been entirely shocking...

It was obvious to everyone that the young prince stood above even royal standards and was already hailed as a once-in-a-millennium prodigy.

"Alastor Alexander Wrynn, where are you!?"

Queen Taria Wrynn frowned as she walked through the halls of the prestigious Stormwind royal castle searching for her younger son, while her friend and lady-in-waiting, Alicia Fordragon, followed behind her with a wry smile.

"Come now, Taria, give the poor boy a break. He's already excelling in his studies. By the Light, I wouldn't be surprised if he completed them all already just so he wouldn't have to sit through the lessons anymore. My son isn't much different... minus the absurd learning speed."

"I know, Alicia, but those lessons don't only teach what's written on paper, and he would understand that if he stopped trying to run away every chance he gets. As a prince, he should know he must uphold an example for others."

"I wouldn't know, considering I rarely see you actually scold him despite your claims otherwise. In fact, I recall last time—"

"Hush, you!"

Unfortunately for the good queen, Alastor had already mastered both the art of flattery and the devastating power of puppy eyes—which were even more effective upon his cherubic face.

"Mother?"

A handsome and muscular young man with black hair, dark green eyes, and fair complexion stepped out from the adjacent hallway.

Though only fifteen years old, due to the royal genetic factors enhancing both physical and mental development, he already looked like a fully grown eighteen-year-old man.

Varian Wrynn.

The firstborn son of Taria and Llane Wrynn, Crown Prince of Stormwind, and the elder brother of Alastor Wrynn.

Varian looked at his mother in confusion.

"Varian, good to see you. Have you seen your little brother anywhere?" Taria asked with a warm smile as she looked at her other pride and joy.

She loved both of her sons equally and took immense pride in their accomplishments and talents.

Varian opened and closed his mouth once before answering with a perfectly straight face.

"No clue, Mother. I have absolutely no idea where Alastor currently is."

He said all this while very conspicuously facing the direction of a certain room.

Smiling knowingly, Taria nodded before entering the chamber, which appeared to be a mix between a guest bedroom and a temporary office.

Her gaze swept across the room before landing upon a very conspicuous large box sitting in the corner.

"At least give the boy credit for ingenuity," Alicia defended weakly while trying—and failing—not to giggle.

Did he really think hiding under a conveniently placed box would somehow make him invisible?

(A/N: Legends will understand the reference.)

Taria also struggled not to smile as she maintained a stern expression and approached the box.

She lifted it.

Underneath sat an adorable six-year-old-looking boy with indigo eyes, black hair, and fair skin dressed in blue clothing with golden accents.

He looked utterly shocked that he had actually been discovered.

"How!?"

"Sweetling, I genuinely don't understand how you can display pure genius one moment and then do things the next that make me question your intelligence entirely,"

Taria said with the flattest expression possible while staring at the contradiction that was her son.

Unable to hold herself back any longer, Alicia immediately pinched Alastor's cheek while completely ignoring his protests.

"You are quite the adorable little dummy, aren't you, little prince?"

How she wished she had another child as quirky and adorable.

She already had her son Marcus and daughter Taelia, but if only her husband Bolvar would remove his damned head from his armor and duties for once, perhaps they would've had another child already!

"Hey!" Alastor protested indignantly, though he made no effort to physically move her hand away.

Thanks to his inhuman endurance, the cheek pinching caused him no real discomfort, and he viewed Alicia almost like an aunt anyway.

(AN: Closest image I could find of Alastor's face, minus the clothing.)

Then his gaze shifted toward his older brother, who was still intensely admiring the walls, and realization struck him.

"You traitor! I trusted you!"

Unfortunately due to his current size and looks his angry expression looked more like an angry puppy's which only prompted Alicia to smother his face more.

"That is slander, little brother. I swore I would not speak even a peep regarding your hiding spot, and I did not 'say' a single word about it."

Varian's expression radiated perfect stoic chivalry.

At least... if one ignored the context.

After enjoying her fair share of entertainment, Taria looked back at Alastor.

"You are late for your lessons again, Alastor."

"But mom! I can skim through them in minutes and still achieve the results I want."

"You know I'm not referring to your theoretical lessons, Alastor. Right now, you have your history lesson—"

"Oh! Why didn't you say so, Mother?"

Alastor's eyes immediately brightened.

"Then I'll be off. Love you!"

The moment he heard which class it was, he quickly hugged his mother before dashing out of the room at incredible speed.

"Honestly, that boy..." Taria sighed with an exasperated smile.

"Oh, don't act like you'd have it any other way. He's simply living up to the family name by running like a 'Storm's wind.'"

"Why must you torture me with those dreadful puns!?"

Shaking his head at the antics of his family—though smiling nonetheless—Varian quietly left as well, heading toward the training grounds to continue his lessons with Anduin Lothar.

Author's Notes: I

Hey here's another chapter, a hopefully wholesome one that showed the dynamic between Alastor his mother, elder brother and his unofficial aunt, I made it to show how Alastor is currently living his life and put groundwork over the world's setting.

And before anyone asks the reason Alastor isn't already a giant despite being a Primarch was because like Roboute he was in a very safe environment and being raised by a loving family so there was no need for his body to mature to "protect" him.

More things about the world and Alastor will be revealed as Chapters progress to build upon, wish me luck since story writing is hard doubly so when you have ADHD and a job like me.
