Chapter 6 - Raising questions, knowing answers

"The Damigod of Resetting is not an average type of Demigod. Not even I know it much, not even it's true name. To even hold it, one must be extremely powerful. I am the strongest under the heavens, but even at my peak, I would barely be able to hold or use something as powerful as the Damigod of Regression.

Not to mention, at the time we actually obtained it, I was at my weakest point. Perhaps fortune was on our side, allowing us to use the core's power once—but in the process, we must have lost the qualification to possess it any longer."

The Heavenly Demon gave this answer to Allen's question. Hearing it filled Allen with a sense of wasteful regret, yet he knew that dwelling on what was lost would do no good. The best thing he could do was forget about it and focus on building a better future.

The future was already known to him. From the memories of the so-called Heavenly Demon, he could eventually grasp what was destined to happen. And as for obeying the instructions of the Heavenly Demon—it was, in truth, Allen who intended to grasp control over the demon, not the other way around. When the time came, Allen would do what suited him best. He was not the type to obey another's word; he was the type who pursued whatever would bring him to the greatest heights.

But the problem was time. On an ordinary day, Shengan's duty was to lead the villagers' sheep to the find hidden grasslands in the sand. After that, he had to stay close to the flock for their safety. During that time, he could not dive into the Heavenly Demon's memories, for he had to devote his full attention to the task. His surrounding awareness would vanish almost completely once he focused inward. If something unfortunate were to happen to the sheep during that moment, he would undoubtedly lose the job that provided his daily meal—and would then have to rely on the night's shared food, which was given freely to everyone.

"There isn't anyone else who would give me any task, and I'm not cut out to be a hunter either," Shengan murmured. After pondering for a moment, he turned his attention to the voice within his mind.

"Since you're the so-called strongest under the heavens, don't you have any method to become stronger quickly at this time?" Shengan asked.

"How can someone become powerful without a Damigod? The Resetting obviously only transferred our minds to the past, not any Demigod I had. Until we reach the next town, we won't be able to obtain one at all," said the Heavenly Demon, revealing an important piece of information to Shengan.

"So there is a Demigod in the next town?" he inquired further.

"Yes, not just demigods, form there we would be able to properly step into the path of courting demigods " the Heavenly Demon answered without hiding anything. Since the two had to depend on each other, and as the weaker side of the pair, the Heavenly Demon made himself valuable through his knowledge.

Afterward, Allen inquired further about the time they would arrive in the next town, to which the Heavenly Demon answered, "In one week ahead."

"But the Demigod— is it not the most important thing within that city? As a town with formal power, it holds a proper lineage of power systems and even an academy where they train individuals capable of becoming a daemon. In my previous life, I was coincidentally selected by them and revealed to have enough purity to court Demigod."

The words purity to court Demigod once again stirred questions in Allen's mind, but he kept his curiosity at bay.

"Then starting from the next town, we can properly become those who use demigods for power?" he asked.

"Yes, we could step into becoming proper daemon from the next town, which is located at a place called canyon Town. But do not speak that name to anyone. None but us should know of it for the moment," the Heavenly Demon warned.

Although he appeared friendly, this guy also had a strong sense of security about himself. As someone who claimed to be the strongest under the heavens, he would indeed possess a deceitful intelligence and an unyielding desire to reclaim his body. Although he seemed to suppress his emotions well, Allen could still sense the hidden urge within him.

If he knew I don't know anything about this world, it would be much easier for him to trick me and drag me into trouble. So, it's best if I keep my secret to myself and try to extract as much information as possible from his memories, Allen reminded himself, making a mental note as he listened to the Heavenly Demon's voice.

"So, a week from now, we could begin our proper journey as those that court demigods," Shengan whispered and closed his eyes. The herd of sheep had already gone to sleep; they were used to his presence. Once Shengan lay atop a group of them, they would not move away and would instead remain still, making it much easier for him to rest.

There were also insects in this world—similar to mosquitoes from his previous one—but because of the arid winds blowing through the desert air, the bugs were unable to properly land on human arms or legs. Knowing that, Shengan felt even more at ease.

From the little things he had experienced in the past two days after regressing into the body of the young Heavenly Demon, he could already tell that this world was ruled solely by power and strength. In his previous world, he had been a rich man who worked his way up the ladder to the top, but even there, some things could not be achieved with money and he still had to work under somone else. This world, however, was the opposite. According to the Heavenly Demon's own memories, with enough power, one could eventually obtain anything they desired—whether it be eternal youth or wealth to live forever in prosperity.

As a human, he naturally desired those things for himself. Thus, Allen was determined to reach the pinnacle of power in this world and claim everything it had to offer. And anyone who dared to stand in his way on that path… haha.

The moon had risen to the middle of the sky, the stars shone brightly, and owl-like creatures hummed in the surroundings. In that serene night, Shengan soon drifted into sleep atop the flock of sheep.
