Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 — Naruto’s Diary (I)

Everyone else removed their hats.

The tall man was Kakashi.

"Yamashita" was Neji.

And the other fishing points had been Sasuke, Sakura, and Tenten.

Once they confirmed Gato's route, all that remained was capturing him without hurting civilians.

If they could win without bloodshed, even better.

That was why their "script" had been so twisty—forcing Gato to pay attention to the conversations and ignore details that might expose them.

Gato's face went icy. A suicidal rage flared as he reached for his waist.

"We can see that," Sakura said coolly. "Don't try anything, unless you want to suffer."

Naruto piled on. "So this is the level of the so-called Chingu King?"

Kakashi stepped forward. "Enough. Surrender."

Gato looked around, fury erupting. He'd barely debuted as a villain and they were already throwing him in jail?

Ssibal! You think I'm some chaebol you can just arrest?

Even chaebol don't get treated like this!

He glared savagely at them and screamed something in Korean.

"Bastards! Die!!"

He snapped out a knife and charged—

…and Naruto pinned him in one second.

But the scream left everyone else bewildered.

Tenten murmured, "What did he say…?"

Kakashi, Sasuke, and Neji were all confused too.

Naruto calmly shoved a towel into Gato's mouth. "It's a code phrase among their chingu."

"Huh?" Everyone stared at him.

"I learned a few words while undercover. Like, 'ssibal' means 'salute,' and 'kho-eh-shi-eh-geh-i' means 'loyalty,' stuff like that."

"Oh, I see!" Tenten's eyes sparkled. "Naruto, that's amazing. You even infiltrated their base."

"Do you even know what a 'base' is?" Neji asked.

"Nope."

"…"

Sakura shot Naruto a warning look, then smoothed it over. "Anyway, this man's brainwashing is dangerous. Until he reaches Konoha, I suggest we don't let him speak a single word."

To be safe, no more chances for Gato to talk.

"Agreed," Kakashi said.

[Naruto's Diary]

Konoha Year 64. The first Wave Country run is over. Haku, Zabuza, and Gato are being escorted to Konoha for trial. I finally have time to organize my thoughts, so I'll review my actions in diary form and prepare excuses for whatever suspicion the village higher-ups might have.

Of course, I write this in Chinese. I'll reread it a few times, then destroy it.

Because I acted oddly in a few places. In short: I was too clever in some moments—too unlike "Naruto."

I plan to blame everything on Kurama. If it's the evil fox's idea, what does it have to do with me, Uzumaki Naruto?

Also, Gato cursing in Korean reminded me: when I transmigrated, I seem to have naturally learned Japanese and speak it unconsciously with teammates. But when I talk to Sakura, I sometimes slip back into Chinese.

Maybe we should use Chinese for important private chats from now on.

That's enough for now. Tenten's coming to play with me. Hehe.

June 19. The bridge is about to be finished. Gato cut a rope with rocks to escape, and I caught him while he ran.

He was screaming about being the protagonist and how "you insects don't deserve to breathe the same air as me," so I fed him a dragon fruit. He said he felt clearer afterward.

Then I started fishing for info. He complained about society and fate, but when he began insulting his mom, I punched out his tooth immediately. Disgusting trash.

But it made me think: what if we take him back to Konoha and someone like Ibiki tortures the truth of transmigration out of him?

This guy can't be left alive.

June 21. The bridge is completed. Sakura and I let Gato "escape" again and guided him deep into the forest.

I'd prepared traps there to let him die on his own.

Instead, a wild boar got caught by mistake, went berserk, tore free, and charged straight into Gato's stomach while stampeding.

He fell immediately. By the time Kakashi arrived, Gato had bled out.

That night Sakura came to me red-eyed, asking if what we did counted as murder.

Sakura and I had fought many battles, but neither of us had truly killed with our own hands. And watching a person die slowly from the shadows… was too brutal for a modern girl.

I told her what Gato said, and that in my hometown we don't call this "sin"—we call it "accumulating merit."

She finally stopped crying. Then she asked if she could sleep beside me one night.

I said yes.

Damn it, she kept scooting closer. I'm in trouble here.

You test a cadre like this?!

June 23. Back in Konoha. It really feels like coming home.

What surprised me was that Hiruzen visited me personally. He even brought fresh fruit and vegetables and said he'd had someone clean the expired food from my fridge.

Ha. Just say it straight: you have a spare key to my place.

I recited my prepped story about Kurama's influence, stressing Kurama's "cleverness," hinting that many ideas in Wave were Kurama-driven.

Hiruzen acted concerned, asked about side effects, I said no.

He went quiet a moment, chatted a bit more, then left—reminding me not to drag Konohamaru into weird stuff.

Heh, old man… you don't want Konohamaru corrupted by me, do you?

Anyway, I need to build ties with Konohamaru. Being alone is cool, but having connections is safer.

June 24. Sakura visited Haku, hoping to exchange Ice Release insights. I doubt she'll get far—too sensitive right now. Konoha will probably handle Mist diplomacy first and won't allow visits.

But Sakura reminded me, so I've been practicing Kurama control again.

Good news: I can walk on water without ever training it.

Meaning my Kurama practice boosted my chakra control massively.

So the next steps can start: flying with Kurama chakra, fighting, sprinting, calligraphy, art, stacking blocks, threading needles…

This is what fine control means! (tactical lean-back.jpg)
