Chapter 47
Day eighteen of winter break arrived, and Adrian drove four hours to Dante's family home with his stomach churning the entire way.
Every mile felt like it added weight to his chest. Every passing sign for Dante's hometown made his hands grip the steering wheel tighter.
He'd met Dante's parents before in passing—at childhood track meets, debate tournaments, random school functions where parents mingled in bleachers and parking lots. Brief hellos. Polite nods. Nothing substantial.
But this was different.
This was as Dante's boyfriend. As Dante's partner. As the person who had hurt their son for eighteen years before finally getting his head out of his ass and understanding what he'd been feeling all along.
The GPS announced his arrival at exactly four PM.
Adrian pulled into the driveway of the modest two-story house, hands shaking slightly as he turned off the engine.
Before he could even unbuckle his seatbelt, the front door opened.
