Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Scroll of Messages, and the Tally Begins!

The ethereal voice didn't echo only through Wyndon Stadium—

It resounded everywhere the giant screens had appeared.

Gyms… Battle Frontiers… League venues…

And at that moment, in front of every person across the world,

a small secondary screen appeared—floating just within reach.

At the top were two bold characters: "Message Stream."

Below was a blank white space, and underneath it, a text-input bar.

Even a virtual keyboard shimmered into existence before them.

Was this… a chat window?

[Lance: What is this thing?]

[Bruno: I'd like to ask that too. What the heck is this?]

[Lorelei: Bruno, you can type?]

[Bruno: What? You looking down on me? I… fine, I can't type. But there's voice input!]

[Diantha: Is it just us? I heard these screens showed up for the entire world.]

[Aaron: I'm in Sinnoh right now. There are civilians around me.]

[Aaron: From what I can tell, not everyone can send messages.]

[Aaron: It looks like only selected trainers can type in this 'Message Stream'.]

Aaron, one of Sinnoh's Elite Four, happened to be on Route 215.

Plenty of regular trainers were nearby.

Some had approached for autographs—

But before he could sign a single one, the "Heavenly Tally" had descended.

Now, every person around him had this "Message Stream" floating in front of them.

At first glance, it looked like a normal chat group.

But clearly, not everyone could speak.

The trainers around him could only stare silently—

Unable to input anything at all.

For now, the only ones sending messages were Champions and Elite Four members.

Hoenn's Four… Sinnoh's Four… Unova's, Kalos's…

All of them slowly appeared in the chat.

No one outside those ranks had sent a message so far.

So… what was this Heavenly Tally planning?

A communication network exclusively for the top trainers?

That made no sense…

Until—

[Ash: WOW! You're all really Champions and Elite Fours?! Misty told me, but I didn't believe her!]

SMACK!

"You idiot! Don't talk like that! Have some manners!"

Misty slammed Ash on the head—hard.

Ash stumbled, clutching his skull.

"Ow—okay, okay! Don't hit me that hard!!"

[Professor Oak: Ash? You can send messages, too?]

[Gary: As expected from Idiot Ash! Why can you talk here?]

Ash's one excited message instantly flushed out countless "lurkers."

Suddenly, it was clear:

Not only Champions and Elite Fours could speak—

Gym Leaders, Professors, and many famed trainers were also eligible.

They had simply stayed quiet out of respect

while the top trainers tried to figure out what was happening.

But then a certain loudmouthed brat barged in—

and the atmosphere exploded.

Viridian Gym.

Giovanni narrowed his eyes at the massive screen in the distance

and the smaller one floating before him.

Judging from the "Message Stream,"

This wasn't something the Pokémon League created.

Even the Champions were clueless.

So who…?

What kind of force could deploy such terrifying technology

across the entire world at once?

According to his informants,

as long as people were present, a screen appeared.

"Heavenly Tally"…

What was that?

A new kind of Legendary Pokémon?

[Alder: So… after all this discussion, has anyone figured out what this is?]

[Bruno: You were here the whole time! If we didn't figure it out, how would you know?]

[Steven: …Has Bruno always been this blunt?]

[Agatha: Don't mind him. He just speaks directly, not rudely.]

While everyone continued speculating,

the ethereal voice returned—clear and thunderous.

"The first Heavenly Tally now begins!"

"Theme: Pokémon Who Defied Gods with Mortal Bodies."

The world instantly erupted.

In this world, "gods" could only refer to Legendary Pokémon.

Pokémon… capable of standing against Legends?

That meant ordinary Pokémon fighting divine beasts!

Instantly, millions of people thought of the Champions' ace Pokémon.

If any Pokémon could challenge Legends,

surely it would belong to a Champion.

The Message Stream filled with urgent chatter—

[Cynthia: Has anyone here battled a Legendary recently?]

[Lance: Not in Kanto or Johto. If a Legendary appeared there, I would know.]

As a Kanto Elite Four member and Johto Champion,

Lance would be informed immediately if a Legendary surfaced.

[Steven: Hoenn hasn't seen any either…]

One by one, every region's Champion denied any recent Legendary sightings.

After all, Legendaries were creatures of myth,

not something one casually encountered.

If a mortal-vs-god battle had truly happened,

the world would've been in an uproar long ago.

So what exactly was this Heavenly Tally going to show?

At last—

The enormous screen flickered to life.

The background appeared to be a research lab.

Inside were three figures:

A boy in pajamas.

An elderly man with graying hair.

And… a small yellow electric mouse.
