The day starts out like any other day at this time. Junior year in highschool, in a crappy one as well. Jake has his girlfriend Ana who has been with him since the end of last year. The day starts out the same then Ana gives Jake a note saying "I want to break up with you. I promise we'll get back together after Homecoming." -Ana. Jake's heart feels heavy as he reads this and goes to her at lunch and asks, "Why? Why must you do such a thing after everything we've been through? 6 months of what? Huh Ana?"
Ana is furious with Jake and tells him, "6 months of me crying over things that you do and the way your friends say I'm 'taking you away from them' I'm done Jake. In fact I should've never asked you out to begin with. You mean nothing to me." Jake walks away holding back tears because he knows that if he cries in school he'll be laughed at by his peers.
When Jake goes home he listens to music to supress his emotions of what happened earlier. His mother walks in and asks if he's ok? He responds with, "no mom. Ana broke up with me and said that she should've never asked me out to begin with." At that moment Jake knew he had to change the way he sees people even his friends that have been with him through the same thing that he went through.
