Ficool

the beginning

Today was the day I was going to do it. I was finally going to confess to my crush… or at least, that's what I kept telling myself.

But instead, that day became the end.

I fell from the top of a ravine because I was stupid enough to get too close. And because I was such a dirty, dumb loser, I expected nothing but death. But instead, I was given a second chance — with a twist.

If I ever mentioned my past life to anyone, fate would kill me in a horrible way.

Somehow, I've survived eight years like this. Eight years living as some sort of hybrid or kemonomimi in a cruel world. My parents aren't really here for me. I'm "sort of" an orphan. I never had a father, and my mother… she's a lab worker. I'm her experiment.

For something they called a "cat," I didn't look much like one. I looked more like a fox or maybe a chinchilla, with huge ears and an extremely long tail. But I didn't have much time to worry about that today, because my life was about to take a drastic — very drastic — turn for the worst.

I had made a drawing of me and my mother hugging. I was proud of it. But then a few lab workers walked in, and they didn't look happy. I hid behind my mother as they started talking. The situation quickly got out of hand.

My mother was refusing to give them the formula she used to make me.

I don't know what went through her mind that day. Maybe it wasn't a good idea. Maybe she knew what would happen.

But whatever it was… on that day, I lost her.

Her last words to me were:

"I love you, my dear child."
