The news of the impending arrival of the Dothraki Screamers loomed over Myr like a dark cloud.
"The horse people are coming!" The terrifying news spread through Myr, as the Dothraki had been synonymous with destruction and slaughter since the Century of Blood.
This was related to the Dothraki's beliefs; the Dothraki considered the earth their mother goddess and believed that tilling the land with plows, shovels, and axes was sinful. This led them to burn fields, farms, and towns, restoring the grasslands to a desolate state.
During the Century of Blood after the Doom of Valyria, the Dothraki drove commoners from their huts and nobles from their manors, leaving nothing but grass and ruins from the Qohor forest to the headwaters of the Saathoru River.
Four hundred years ago, the Dothraki advanced from the east towards the Free Cities, plundering and burning every town and city along the way, including the Kingdom of Sarrabi, the Free City of Iffervon, the quartesi people's cities in the Red Waste, and the ibbenese people's settlements in the Kingdom of Iffervon. This continued until Khal Temo and his Khalasar of at least fifty thousand were stopped by three thousand Unsullied warriors of Qohor.
"The Dothraki were bought by the Archon of Tyrosh and the exiled Myrish Magisters, at the expense of the happiness of the Myrish people, with the intention of restoring the previous order." This message further angered the Myrish people; the exiled Magisters, familiar to conservative Myrish citizens in private, had ultimately betrayed the city-state.
With the deliberate instigation of Qyburn's scouts, all Myrish people became aware of this scandal.
These exiled Magisters and restorers not only fled Myr and incited civil unrest but also deliberately led the Dothraki to Myr. Even the old citizens felt deeply betrayed by these old nobles.
"traitors!"
"traitors!"
"Treason!" Panicked Myrish citizens left their homes to protest, having no choice but to join the Free Folk they once disdained, to maintain order in Myr before the war. Before violence, they needed a strong leader.
The Dothraki were coming to loot Myr amidst the chaos, and even gold might not satisfy their appetite.
In Myr's Lace Plaza, the towering white spires stood behind it. The cluster of white towers was Myr's city hall, where the former Myrish Magisters also held meetings. The gleaming tips of the soldiers' Longspears, like a forest, seemed to emanate a chill.
The Wolf Pack and the Free Army taxi soldiers maintained order near the plaza. The Knights in plate and chainmail, and the Unsullied guards holding shields and Longspears, gave the Myrish people considerable confidence. Mercenaries were untrustworthy, but the Wolfpack Army and the Free Army were true armies.
"Citizens of Myr, Free Folk, farmers, artisans, Wolfpack Army, Free Army, and other taxi soldiers! Even the former Magisters, noble merchants, who are willing to uphold me and the new order!" Lord Gendry declared loudly from the plaza. "Myr has reached the brink of destruction. The Dothraki are about to storm Myr, sweep through our beautiful city, kill our loved ones, and plunder our homes. What should we do?"
Lord Gendry stood before thousands of people, his Commander-in-Chief's deep blue eyes hard as iron, clad in heavy armor, like a black storm. He could see the faces, those of the Free Folk and the citizens of Myr. The Arrow Maker stood behind him, holding his dragonglass bow.
The Red Viper looked enviously at the dragonglass bow, which was considered the best in the world, with the goldenheart wood bow being the second best. The Dothraki and the Dornish preferred recurve bows because they could easily unleash a deadly rain of arrows upon enemies from horseback with such bows, rather than single shots at targets.
"Kill the Dothraki!"
"Kill those traitors!"
The Free Folk shouted loudly. The liberated Free Folk detested slavery the most, and the Dothraki, famous for their slaughter and brutality, also kept slaves. The Free Folk could not, under any circumstances, allow the Dothraki to win.
Immediately, the old citizens of Myr also joined the shouts, genuinely moved this time. Although the old citizens of Myr were cowardly, they understood that this was indeed a critical moment for Myr. To be destroyed or to live? In the face of violence, the Myrish people had to choose those who could protect them.
The Commander-in-Chief was very satisfied with everything before him. As long as the horse people besieged Myr, as long as the horse people truly appeared, then the exiled Myrish Magisters and the Archon of Tyrosh would certainly become the target of all Myr's wrath. Most of Myr were citizens; slavers and the noble class were, after all, a minority, and Lord Gendry also needed to win over these citizens.
Defeating the Dothraki, winning the hearts of the Myrish people, and at the same time showing strength—this was killing multiple birds with one stone.
"In this moment of life and death for Myr, you are the shield and sword of all Myrish people, Commander-in-Chief!" shouted the members of Myr's Round Table Council. These included merchants from the carpet, lace, screen, lens, and painting industries, as well as representatives of the Free Folk and artisans.
"I will accept this mission! Crush the dothraki butchers!"
"We will surely defeat the dothraki horse people! For Myr, for the Disputed Lands, for millions of free citizens." Lord Gendry waved his warhammer.
"Victory!"
"Victory!" The soldiers raised their Longspears and longswords, and clear, bright clashing sounds rang out. The shouts grew louder each time, turning into a river, a river of steel.
Even the Myrish people who were previously unwilling to join the military seemed to be infected at this moment of life and death. This was a magic, loyalty to the city-state and its people, defending one's country. Patriotism, love for Myr, the trembling feeling of protecting Myr, instilled courage in everyone.
The Free Folk were willing to enlist, and the Myrish citizens were willing to donate money; some citizens even voluntarily joined the Myr City Watch and volunteered to go to the city walls to defend Myr.
The Red Viper stood in a hidden corner. This young man perhaps also possessed a charm that could turn enemies into friends; these Myrish people would soon become his loyal followers. "Perhaps I am truly old; is it the young people's turn to shine in this world now?"
Next was Brown Ben's speech. Brown Ben, as the Commander of the Myr City Watch, was one of the most familiar figures to the Myrish people.
"Given the actions of the traitors during the Myr riots, and given that the traitors paid to entice the Dothraki to attack our motherland. They abandoned Myr, even committing treason. In the name of Myr, the Disputed Lands, Tyrosh, the Narrow Sea, and the Magistrate of the Stepstones, Lord Gendry, I announce the list of traitors, stripping them of their past honors and confiscating their property."
Brown Ben said in a clear voice that the exiled Magisters, merchants, and nobles on the list would be publicly shamed by Myr, stripped of all wealth and honor.
"Kill the traitors!"
"Kill the traitors! Kill the Dothraki!" The list of traitors was undoubtedly passed. These lists would be posted in Myr's plazas and throughout Myr's streets and alleys, and all wealth and honor of the exiles would be revoked.
"Deploy the troops!" Lord Gendry issued the order. Gray Wolf led the Free Army soldiers into action, while other taxi soldiers silently took to the walls, and some Myrish citizens also eagerly joined the fight.
The army formed its ranks, with a thousand banners flying. Before the Dothraki arrived, Gray Wolf would lead the Free Army and Wolf Pack soldiers to set up their formation; this was a kind of bait.
"Knights!" The steel-armored Knights Lord Gendry envisioned were the decisive force in this war. The Unsullied's formation was too rigid, and most of these people were not truly Unsullied.
