Chapter 11 - Analysis

"Now I'd like to ask you about the situation. What time did you get back yesterday?"

"It's almost 2 a.m.!" Lin Hao answered truthfully.

Do you have proof?

Lin Hao realized that this was an attempt to confirm his alibi.

Lin Hao nodded. "Before I came back, I was in the competition, and after the competition, I stayed with my teammates. Around 1 a.m., I rode my bicycle back to the dormitory and arrived at the dormitory at 2 a.m.!"

After saying that, Lin Hao frowned and said, "There should be surveillance cameras in the dormitory corridor. If we determine the time of death, we'll know, right?"

Agent Paul gave a disdainful smile. "You think you know everything?"

"What you're saying is our business. Just cooperate with us!"

Lin Hao nodded, feeling deflated. "Okay, that's the timeline. As for my relationship with him, I've only met him once. He doesn't come back often, and I only know his name!"

"Hmm, you do understand, huh? Did you notice your roommate's condition when you came back?"

Lin Hao nodded. "He's definitely alive. I saw his chest rise and fall!"

Paul nodded. "Okay, that's all for now. Here's my contact information; I'll need your cooperation with the investigation if needed!"

Lin Hao left his contact information, and Paul told him that he couldn't come back to live there for a while, and the school hadn't said anything about arranging a new dormitory for him. Lin Hao was left with no place to live.

Lin Hao, who was still unsure of where to go next, was kicked out and planned to go to the training base to see if the youth training dormitory could accept him. Fortunately, he performed well in the last game, so maybe they could arrange a place for him.

His teammates' families might also accept him.

However, as soon as he stepped out of the dormitory, beyond the cordon, he saw a familiar figure waving at him – Liu Chang!

Lin Hao frowned as he walked over, and Liu Chang asked, "I heard he's your roommate?"

Lin Hao nodded.

"That's really unfortunate!"

"But then you won't have anywhere to stay, right? You can stay at my house!"

Lin Hao smiled and said, "Classmate, isn't this inappropriate? Besides, aren't you afraid that I really am the murderer?"

"Hmm... I'm scared! But I'm not going home to live, I'm staying in the dorm. My parents have also returned to China, so you can stay for a while. There's nothing wrong with it, and there's no danger!" Liu Chang tilted his head slightly and smiled, as if he had Lin Hao completely under his control.

Lin Hao still didn't want to go, but Liu Chang's next words broke down his defenses: "It's very close to Arsenal's training ground!"

Liu Chang took Lin Hao to familiarize himself with the place, and then they went to train.

His teammates were still unaware that Lin Hao was a suspect; everything seemed normal.

This is one of the reasons why Lin Hao went to Liu Chang's house. If you go to your teammate's house, you have to explain why, since you haven't known each other for long and the other person may not believe Lin Hao!

We're still congratulating Lin Hao on his great performance in the last match!

During training, the coaching team also paid close attention to Lin Hao and found that he was as bad as ever. But they soon understood why. In the intra-team matches on the training field, Lin Hao did not attack at all and kept seeking cooperation, although he made mistakes repeatedly.

But that's true; it's always better to make a mistake in training than in a real competition.

"He practices what he's not good at in training, and then takes it to the real competition when he's confident!" The assistant coach gave the answer, and the coaching team also strongly agreed with this approach.

After the intra-team competition ended, the team handed over the questions they had written down to Lin Hao. Lin Hao thanked them repeatedly, feeling very happy to receive such attention.

As soon as training ended, something unpleasant happened: Paul called to ask where he was and said he wanted to buy him a cup of coffee.

Lin Hao couldn't possibly refuse, so he arrived at the coffee shop as agreed. Paul arrived a while later and said to him, "Sorry to keep you waiting!"

After sitting down, he ordered a coffee, took out his notebook, and said, "We've met once before, you know a lot, right?"

Paul looked sharply at Lin Hao. "Then I won't beat around the bush. Time of death: between midnight and 4 a.m.!"

"The surveillance footage shows that the victim entered the dormitory at 9 p.m. and never came out again!"

"You entered the dormitory at 2 a.m. and didn't come out until we arrived at the scene!"

"But the person died in the dormitory!"

Lin Hao narrowed his eyes and slowly said, "If it wasn't me, then it's a locked-room murder case, right?"

"To be honest with you, it's highly unlikely that it wasn't you. If it were me, would I kill one person in a dorm room without alerting the other? It's not a question of possibility or impossibility; psychologically, such a thing wouldn't happen!"

"What was the cause of death?" Lin Hao asked.

"asphyxia!"

"Suffocation?" Lin Hao was indeed a little surprised, because he knew it wasn't him. If it were poisoning, there was still a possibility of suffocation... This was indeed a difficult situation.

Paul took a sip of his coffee and continued, "Your alibi is invalid because you were present!"

"So what evidence do you have to prove that you have nothing to do with this case?"

"I have no motive!" Lin Hao said.

Paul had anticipated this response and immediately nodded in agreement, "Yes, if it weren't for that, we wouldn't need to meet at the coffee shop!"

Lin Hao looked helpless, rubbed his forehead and pondered for a moment, "Hmm... I can keep it steady. How far have you guys gotten in your investigation?"

"Sigh!" Paul sighed. "Don't laugh at me, there's been absolutely no progress!"

"He's a wealthy man and very generous, so everyone has a good impression of him. He doesn't have any grudges against anyone and often treats everyone to fun activities!"

"Before the incident, I was drinking with friends. Surveillance footage shows that my friends took me back to my dormitory, and I returned alone."

"The others are still playing and all have alibis."

"Where's your girlfriend?" Lin Hao interrupted.

Paul shook his head. "He doesn't have a girlfriend!"

"Even if it were possible, could a woman really strangle a young, strong man to death on the bed without alerting the person in the next bed?"

"Wait, strangle him?" Lin Hao noticed the key point.

Paul nodded. "Yes, is there something wrong with that?"

"Have the windows been cleaned?"

"We checked! Since it's on the second floor, there were no signs of climbing!"

When you went there, were the windows closed or open?

Paul thought for a moment, "It was open, but the second floor isn't something you can just climb up to without leaving a trace!"

"What if... instead of climbing up, the deceased got out?"

Paul's eyes widened suddenly, but then he shook his head. "It's still impossible. How can we put him back? Besides, even if he crawled down, there would still be traces!"

"It's not about climbing down, it's about climbing up!" Lin Hao's words were sure to shock.

Paul was truly dumbfounded this time; they had never considered that the deceased could actually leave on their own!
