Chapter 31 - MATEO

Diego brought it in person. He always brought the things that mattered in person, because some information was too important to trust to any system, because systems had the specific vulnerability of existing in more places than the conversation between two people in a closed room.

He laid it out on the desk between them. The encrypted communication, the routing pattern, the comparison analysis against the patterns Ranon had been shown months ago and had attributed to a source in the New York operation. The comparison was not ambiguous. Diego had run it twice with different methodology and arrived at the same result. He said this at the beginning so Ranon would not have to ask.

Ranon sat with it.

He did not speak for a long time. Diego waited, which was one of the things that made Diego essential. He understood that some information required time before it could become a decision, and that pressuring the time was how you got decisions that were faster than they were correct.
