Chapter 109 - That Trust

"My body is perfectly healthy right now. I just hope, Theresa, that you can have the logistics department deliver a variety of ingredients sufficient for three people to my residence on a regular weekly basis."

Evan's response made the initially tense Theresa instantly heave a sigh of relief.

"Is that all? No problem. I'll notify the logistics department later. Should they send it to your residence or somewhere else? As long as it's within the Far East branch's jurisdiction, it's totally fine."

Theresa's excessive straightforwardness made Evan pause for a moment.

"You don't intend to ask me what the ingredients are for?"

"Nope. It's just some ingredients, not weapons of mass destruction. Whether your appetite exceeds normal people, or you're raising some pets where we don't know, or even taking care of beings you can't tell us about—it doesn't matter. You're not doing anything bad, right?"

"...Thank you."

Touched, Evan thanked her. Theresa, while opening the office door, turned her head to look at him.

"You're free now, right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"If you're free, come help me process some documents. Consider it practice in advance. I don't want you to be overwhelmed by lack of experience when you graduate and officially start working."

"Start working? Theresa, have you already decided what position to give me? Speaking of processing documents... you aren't planning to give me a desk job, are you?"

Evan didn't ask why Theresa suddenly mentioned graduation. St. Freya Academy's education system wasn't based on academic years but on an assessment system. Passing various assessments meant graduation, stripping away the student status to enter an internship or officially step into a job. If one failed the assessments, they had to obediently continue being a student.

After all, even if one didn't become a Valkyrie facing the Honkai directly, being a staff member in the logistics department still carried certain risks. If one's abilities didn't match the role, it would be gambling with their own and others' lives.

Actually, this system had certain loopholes. Someone with ulterior motives could deliberately fail the assessments to stay a student indefinitely and mooch off the school. However, the girls in St. Freya Academy all had good personalities; no one exploited such loopholes, and everyone worked very hard.

With Evan's abilities, it wouldn't be long before he could truly graduate.

"Naturally not. However, I won't let you become a 'Valkyrie' either. After all, you are male, so you'll receive some special treatment. Plus, considering your own combat power, your previous achievements, and the attitude Kiana and the others have toward you, I've already thought of an arrangement. Later, as long as Himeko agrees, there won't be any problem."

Theresa, the Principal of St. Freya Academy, needed Himeko Murata's consent to make a decision? That sounded a bit odd.

However, Evan didn't feel it was strange. He had already guessed the role he would play in the future and felt happy about it.

"What kind of documents are these? Aren't you afraid I'll make some mistake while processing them and cause serious consequences?"

"That's why I'll be watching you from the side."

Theresa pulled Evan to the only chair in the principal's office and sat him down, signaling him to open the folder on the desk.

Half a minute later, standing aside and watching Evan finish reading a document and start annotating it, Theresa fell into silence.

She suddenly realized a very serious problem.

With her height, although she could barely see the things on the large desk, the angle was too steep to read the small text clearly. Supervising whether Evan made mistakes during the process had naturally become an impossible task.

But if she asked Evan to show her the documents after he finished, wouldn't that be silently telling him she hadn't thought things through?

The Principal's dignity would vanish completely!

Just as Theresa was considering whether to pretend nothing happened and check the documents after Evan left, Evan turned his head with a smile.

"I'm occupying the seat that belongs to the Principal while letting you stand aside, Theresa. It feels very rude. I'll stand to process the documents; you sit in the chair."

Was Evan being purely polite, or had he seen through her embarrassment?

Theresa didn't know, but the possibility of the latter made her choose to refuse.

"No need."

While Theresa was thinking of a persuasive reason to refuse, Evan directly picked up the petite girl and sat her on the edge of the desk.

"How about now? Now we both have seats."

"..."

Although sitting on the desk as a Principal was slightly inappropriate, compared to the previous situation, this was probably the best way to preserve her dignity.

Considering Evan was being thoughtful, this time she wouldn't fuss about his offensive act of picking her up without asking. Hmph.

Theresa turned her gaze to the document Evan had processed earlier.

"Regarding the follow-up report on Nagazora City, you only plan to maintain basic surveillance. Why? Although the Honkai energy concentration in Nagazora began to normalize after Raiden Mei left and the nascent Pseudo-Herrscher was destroyed, there are still several hundred Zombies (Deadwalkers) remaining there. Why not clear them out?"

"When Raiden Mei, Kiana, and the others finally pass their assessments, they'll become trainee Valkyries, right? Let them clear out the remaining Zombies then. The lowered Honkai energy concentration denies the Zombies any possibility of further strengthening. Even if ten days or half a month pass, no truly powerful individuals will appear. Leaving that area as it is—let's treat it as a training ground for the near future."

Theresa, who originally wanted to state the cons to Evan, was surprised hearing his answer.

Although this behavior carried certain risks, St. Freya Academy could minimize them. Compared to the downsides, Evan's plan had more pros than cons.

Even though the academy had virtual combat rooms, there was still a gap compared to real combat. As for the combat androids used for assessments, don't even mention them. Aside from Nagazora City, which had recently suffered a large-scale Honkai outbreak but was mostly dealt with, Theresa really couldn't find a more suitable training ground in the Far East.

And Evan wasn't finished speaking yet.

"Additionally, regarding this report submitted by the cities surrounding Nagazora... why does it only contain requests for help from St. Freya Academy? Do these cities not intend to provide the aid they should? We, St. Freya Academy, provide the manpower and effort; the other side should provide supplies."
