They stepped out of the cab already laughing, like the joke had started before either of them could remember who said what.
Kim was the first to move, heels clicking fast, energy spilling out of her like she'd been holding it in all day and finally let go. She grabbed Mia's hand and tugged her forward.
"Come on," she said. "Before I change my mind and start crying instead."
Mia laughed. "You are not crying tonight."
"I make no promises."
The bass hit them as soon as the doors opened,loud and deep. The kind that rattled your chest and made thinking optional. Kim let out a shout without meaning to, threw her hands up, spun once in place like she needed to greet the room properly.
"Yes," she said. "This is correct."
Mia shook her head, smiling already. "You're insane."
"I just got promoted," Kim said, like it explained everything. "I'm allowed."
