Chapter 65 - the world's best father system

Leo entered the completely renovated back alley while holding his bloated stomach.

He wanted to go hug Hana, like a doll for slept with, and get a good night's sleep, but the system screen that appeared in front of him reminded him of a truth he had forgotten all this time.

[Congratulations. You have been selected as the new user of the World's Best Father System]

"Fuck. I forgot to choose a new system. Am I getting stupid? Starting tomorrow, I was planning to go back to a life of eating greasy burgers all day and being lazy, but it looks like I really need to do something if I don't want to lose my intelligence. Soo I'll start eating healthy"

[It has been detected that there are no children belonging to the host's bloodline. The system is searching for the most suitable optimal match for the host]

[Congratulations. Guardianship documents for your new child have been transferred to your storage space. Please meet your new child as soon as possible and prove your identity as the world's best father]

(Author's note: this system will not take up much space in the story. The main reason I chose this system is because I needed to make a time skip. Due to the nature of the story, I can't just make a time skip without explanation, so I chose a system like this. In short, you won't be forced to read forty chapters of slice of life.)

When Leo checked his storage space, he found documents with Hana's photo on them.

Until now, Leo had been Hana's temporary guardian, but now Leo had officially become Hana's father.

Honestly, seeing that made Leo feel a little uncomfortable.

Taking care of Hana temporarily was fine. Why would fulfilling his role as a handsome oppa and spending quality time with Hana put pressure on him?

But suddenly, everything changed.

Even though he knew the reason for this change was the system, Leo still felt uneasy.

Until now, he had always thought that he would play with Hana for a while, and once the unknown higher ups got bored, Hana would be handed over to her relatives, but the documents in his hands made that almost impossible.

What Leo was holding wasn't the kind of document you get when you adopt a child.

The more Leo turned the pages of the document, the more shocked he became.

A photo of himself holding Hana in his arms on the day she was born.

Another photo of Leo hugging her on the day Hana learned how to walk.

A photo taken when Hana spoke for the first time. There was even a small note in the corner of the photo saying that Hana had said "dady" for the first time.

Even though Leo often complained about the system's intelligence level, he had never once questioned the system's power.

It was entirely possible that the system had already rewritten all of reality just to make Hana Leo's daughter.

As Leo sat in a luxurious room examining the files related to himself and Hana, he thought about the man who had sent Hana to his side and forgotten that it was his own decision.

For a moment, Leo wondered if even Hana's genes might have been reshaped to match his own.

While looking at the woman who appeared blurry in the photos he was holding, Leo felt his phone vibrate.

"My first phone call in a long time."

Leo looked at the unknown number on his phone, answered the call, and learned that the caller was one of the workers from the demolition company that had torn down his house.

They asked where they should deliver the items taken out of Leo's house.

While talking, Leo learned that they would charge a fee if they brought the remaining items from that house here, so Leo said he had something important to deal with and told them to keep his belongings in storage for a while longer.

As soon as the call ended, Leo sent his father a message asking for some allowance money.

Without waiting for a reply, Leo stuffed his phone into his pocket and went back home.

When she heard the sound coming from downstairs, Hana ran toward the stairs between the two floors.

Leo had just stepped onto the first stair when he felt a figure flying toward him.

Leo caught Hana in midair and let her wrap her arms around his neck. She must have been very scared because her father had been arrested.

"Oppaaa! Why did you come back so late? Didn't the police release you?"

Oppa?

Leo frowned for a moment in surprise, because he had expected Hana to call him dad.

After carrying Hana upstairs in his arms, he put her down and started questioning her.

"Hana, when did you see me for the first time?"

Hana felt a little uncomfortable because of the suddenly serious atmosphere, but she answered honestly.

"That day. Before getting on the train, I saw you getting on the train."

When Leo realized that the system hadn't altered reality as it had implied, he frowned and tried to understand what the system was attempting to do while asking another distracted question.

"Which day?"

"My mom… sniff…"

When Leo noticed that Hana had started crying, he realized he had asked a very wrong question.

Before Leo could apologize, Mrs. Saem, who had been watching from the side, stepped in and tried to distract Hana.

"Hana, come on, tell Leo what we did today. Do you remember how we rocked back and forth on that big ship?"

Unfortunately, Hana wasn't fooled that easily. She rested her head on Leo's shoulder as he knelt in front of her and started crying.

Seeing that there was nothing else he could do, Leo decided to set the system issue aside for now and hugged Hana, trying to calm her down.

Half an hour later, Hana's energy was completely drained, and she fell asleep in Leo's arms.

Leo laid Hana down on the bed and couldn't help himself, planting a kiss on her cheek.

[Congratulations. You soothed your little daughter in a manner worthy of the World's Best Father. A reward of 1,000,000 won has been deposited into your bank account. Additionally, if you hug your daughter all night, as a good father, she will have a good dream and you will be able to obtain new rewards.]

When Leo saw the new system screen decorated with pink hearts appear in front of him, the question he had ignored earlier came back to his mind.

Because of that, Leo returned to the living room and began questioning Mrs. Saem.

It seemed the system had once again decided to play the being unpredictable game and had only given Leo a set of photos edited with Photoshop.

On a whim, Leo tried checking the authenticity of the adoption documents through an official website and saw that even those documents were fake.

"What's wrong, Leo? You look angry. And why did it take you so long to leave the police station?"

"Forget it. A small misunderstanding. When did you get the windows fixed again?"

"Municipal workers repaired everyone's windows right after the explosion. I didn't pay anything."

"I'm sending you 100,000 won." Before Mrs. Saem could even open her mouth, Leo continued speaking. "Don't refuse right away. You can use that money for Hana's expenses."

"Hmm, or maybe I'll send it later. I need to check something first."

Leo first offered the money, then immediately changed his mind. Before Saem could ask what was going on, Leo had already returned to his room, picked up Hana, and lain down on the large bed with her in his arms.

The real reason Leo decided not to send the money yet was that he was afraid this system might cause trouble once again. Even though the money showed up in his bank account, it was better to wait a bit and make sure there were no issues with the funds first.
