Chapter 48 - The Old Man

When the old man arrived in the city, he looked around and saw that the doors of the houses on the left side of the city entrance were broken.

The moment he reached the station, the system appeared before him and gave a general evaluation of the station. Thanks to this, the old man understood that the houses with open doors had already been looted.

First, he spent ten minutes wandering around the small city for a general reconnaissance. The looted houses made up roughly a quarter of the small city.

What truly caught the old man's attention was the station itself and the two-story building across from it.

When he saw smoke rising from the chimney of Leo's grocery store, the old man thought that another player was there, but there were no wagons or trains on the tracks other than his own.

He thought that maybe it was a young and fearless person who was not afraid of breaking the rules.

The old man had previously thought that if they broke the rules and stayed in the city, they would lose their connection with the system and their train. Now, seeing a house with smoke coming out of its chimney confirmed his assumption by half.

For a brief moment, the old man wondered whether he should break the rules and start living in this city. But then he straightened his hunchback, stood upright, and continued to stare at the house with smoke rising from its chimney.

One of the rewards he had received for entering the world rankings had given him 10 assignable stat points. After using these points, the old man had become as vigorous and energetic as he was in his youth, so he was already firmly clinging to his identity as a player.

Of course, this did not ease his curiosity, so before starting to loot, he decided to go to the house with smoke coming out of its chimney and talk to the person staying there. After all, with 70 years of experience and a healthy body, he did not think he would easily lose a fight against someone.

At the same time, Leo was standing firmly on top of the steam train, watching the old man who was looking in his direction.

Four hours after Alice left, his second customer had arrived, and unlike Alice, this customer had a much more flashy train.

Seeing him gave Leo hope that he might be able to level up this time.

When Leo leveled up for the first time, he felt a wonderful energy flooding through his body, but it did not really change much.

He was still causing nearby papers to fly when he clenched his fists. Since he had not learned any cultivation techniques, he could not even feel the energy in his body, let alone control it.

Of course, according to the little dragon, this was not very important. With his current body quality, he could easily twerk against an RPG.

While Leo was looking at his profile, he suddenly noticed that one system point had been deducted.

When he checked the details, he saw that this point had been deducted for special effects.

Since the old man had already noticed him, the smoke coming out of the chimney effect, no longer had any meaning.

Even though Leo had plenty of system points, spending one point per hour just to make smoke come out of the chimney was an annoying situation.

One system point equaled 150,000 won. 150,000 won equaled 100 dollars.

Definitely not worth.

At that moment, Leo saw the old man jump down from his train and start walking toward him.

"Do not they feel the cold?"

[The moment the old man's train entered the city, the temperature level of the entire city increased. You may leave the shop if you wish right now.]

"No need. These people come to the city to loot. If he suddenly stabs me, I will die without anywhere to complain."

By then, the old man had already arrived in front of the grocery store with slow steps.

Leo immediately moved behind the curtain and lowered the level of the lighting.

The old man cautiously tried to open the grocery store's door. Surprisingly, the door was not just unlocked. The moment he opened it, a wave of soothing warm air hit his face.

Although the protection provided by the world's system was keeping them warm, it was not as warm as inside this grocery store. He can still feel a certain degree of cold outside.

The old man stepped inside and saw Leo's figure behind the curtain.

Looking at the motionless and silent Leo, it was easy to tell that this was not a player's shelter.

Even so, the old man did not rush.

He turned his head and looked outside through the one-way windows. Then he walked around and checked whether there was dust along the walls. Finally, instead of sitting on the chair, he stood on his side of the table and gave a greeting.

"May God's peace be upon you."

Leo was momentarily stunned by the greeting and did not know how to respond. Still, staying silent felt impolite, so he answered in a confused, half-accepting tone, as if saying he understood and went along with it, "Alright… I'll take it? I... guess."

Upon hearing this answer, the old man smiled slyly. With just a single simple sentence, he understood that the person in front of him was a human capable of thinking, making mistakes, and having emotions.

After that, the old man pulled out the chair and sat down at the table.

The entire purpose of giving that unexpected greeting earlier was to understand the attitude of the mysterious person in front of him.

And from the answer he received, he realized that Leo was not a demon trying to eat him.

The old man's life experience shattered all of Leo's fun in a single second, and Leo noticed this from the relaxed expression on the old man's face. Because of that, he did not bother pretending to be an all knowing NPC who gave absolutely no useful information.

"Old man, I am a shop owner. This list contains the products I have. If I make sales worth 70 Ice Train coins, I will increase the product variety. That is everything you need to know."

Without saying anything, the old man took the list on the table.

After the latest update, the small product list had turned into a tiny five page booklet.

Considering that there were no product images and the font size was very small, a surprisingly large number of items were listed here.

"These letters are too small. I cannot read them."

"If there is something you want, you can just ask me directly."

"What is not on this list?"

Leo sighed and answered directly.

"There are only a few experimental products not on that list. A few experimental products you cannot afford."

The old man smiled and took out a money pouch from his pocket, placing it on the table.
