Chapter 42 - chapter 11

Katsuki was the first one to arrive to class. This honestly was not too terribly surprising given that as far as he knew, he was the earliest riser of the class beating Glasses and Windbag the next two by a full hour most days. It was not like he had much option for it given that he knew that sometimes neither Eyebags or the Nerd would sleep unless he told them to go to bed when he woke up. Both of their sleep schedules were just completely fucked at this point and given that they were fully planning on becoming nocturnal heroes in the longer term anyways, there was little point in trying to fix it over them just muddling through the next three years.

At least both of them apparently had scheduled nap times in place of English class since one was completely fluent and the other could make up for the missed in class time when he was actually awake again at home as the son of the teacher. Because English happened to be the class right before lunch, it seemed likely that they were going to keep up their weird eating schedules too and just sleep for most of the full hour and forty minutes block of time instead.

That meant that during that time and the early morning, the prank fell to Katsuki to carry it. Okay, sure, Copycat, Glasses, Icyhot and Shitty Hair were all in on it too but two of them were shitty liars without help, one had only known about everything for about a month and the last was Icyhot. Okay, sure, Icyhot could probably do it too since his ability to deadpan everything and habit of straight up believing the bullshit conspiracy theories he made up would be an excellent distraction but he couldn't exactly organize the others.

Frankly herding cats would be easier then Katsuki's self imposed job of wrangling the insanity that was their family group. And yes Shitty Hair was just as much part of this hell of a family now as Katsuki and Glasses. Frankly, he was technically more so given he had the Old Man's younger brother's Quirk now on top of his own.

He was still stewing with his thoughts when the door opened to reveal Shitty Hair and Raccoon Eyes from Shitty Hair's old school. Shitty Hair waved at him as he walked in the door. "Oh hey man! You the only one here yet? We missed you at the meet up yesterday. You Bakugou or Aoyama? I'm Kirishima and this is Ashido."

Katsuki huffed. "Do I look like I speak fucking French? Also I read the stupid spreedsheet that the fucking Nerd made so I know who you are Shitty Hair."

Racoon Eyes made an over dramatic fake gasp. "Kiri's hair isn't shitty! It's super manly!" She did the stupid manly pose that Shitty Hair had been doing that the Nerd had encouraged him to do to help with his self confidence.

Katsuki huffed. "It has so much gel in it that it probably sounds like crushing a bag of chips if you even poke it. I don't even think I used that much gel back at HeroCon to get my hair to stay flat."

Racoon Eyes was at his desk now leaning forward with her hands rested on it in plain interest. "You went to HeroCon too? I'm so jealous! Do you think you and Kiri might have seen each other there and just not known it?"

"I was in full costume so fuck if I know if he saw me but I am pretty sure I don't remember seeing him. I am pretty sure I would remember a fashion disaster like his hair if I had seen it before."

"Oh! He didn't start dying and gelling his hair until like a month after. His hair is naturally straight black."

Shitty Hair came over to pat her on the shoulder. "I mean I doubt he would remember just another face in the crowd that day. It was kinda packed. You said you dressed up?"

Katsuki fished out his phone and pulled up the selfie that he had taken with Best Jeanist that day. "I'm the shorter one obviously. Before you ask, I was able to work off the actual patterns for that version of his Hero costume since my parents are actually the designers of like half of them."

It wasn't until he saw the shocked look on Shitty Hair's face that he realized his friend had probably never actually seen an image of him in the cosplay. "Holy shit dude, that is awesome! You made that? Like sewed it yourself?"

Katsuki felt himself puff up in pride. "Yep. It was a bitch to tailor the design down to my size though."

Even Racoon Eyes looked impressed. "Damn, your Hero costume design is probably going to be leagues better than the rest of us when we get to finally wear them if you're from a family of pro designers."

Katsuki snorted. "We have Loki in our class so I won't be outclassing all of you extras at least. His costume was professional quality from the start from what I understand." And hadn't he been proud to hear that the police had been looking into professional designers to find the source of the costume back when they had still been trying to arrest the Nerd. The only part he couldn't claim credit for was the metal circlet since the original the Nerd had made with heat form plastic before the Old Man had commissioned a metal version of it under the table.

"Hey guys! What's up?" Raccoon Eyes snatched up Katsuki's phone and shoved it in Ginger's face as she arrived.

"You won't believe how crazy good Bakugou is at cosplay!"

Katsuki was slightly amused to watch her proceed to do that with everyone else as people began to file in, fully enjoying the compliments of his work that some of their new classmates made as they saw the image. However it was Icyhot's reacting to the image being shoved in his face that absolutely sent him. "Bakugou, are you Best Jeanist's secret love child or something?"

This got a mixed reaction of laughter and fake groans from the class at large. Thanks to the class chat, they all knew about how Icyhot was the creator of the rumor that the Nerd was his uncle and father's secret love child by now with his frequent joking accusations. Well probably joking since it was hard to tell sometimes with him. Especially since he whole heartily believed that Bacon Face was actually the Old man's bastard son and not Endeavor's despite multiple people telling him the truth.

As a result they were still standing around joking when the Hobo slipped silently into the room on the heels of his son and the Nerd who slipped into their seats behind Katsuki's without any of the others seeming to notice. Well anyone that wasn't in their little inner circle. Even Icyhot who had been the center of attention had quickly slipped into his seat the moment the Hobo entered the room. When it became clear that none of the others except Sparkles (who had immediately followed their lead and gave Katsuki and the others and amused knowing wink but did not do anything to interrupt the others) were going to notice him, the Hobo gave the Nerd a signal that had him jumping up on his chair and whistling to get everyone's attention.

The newbies all jolted at the noise and snapped to attention to the Nerd who just gestured forward at the Hobo making them all quickly scramble to their seats. The Hobo, who had been looking at a timer on his phone stopped it and pocketed it. "That was terrible situational awareness from you all with a few clear exceptions. If I hadn't signaled to Loki to get your attention then I am left to wonder how long it would have taken for you to notice me. I'm your homeroom teacher Aizawa Shouta. Now go get changed into these gym uniforms and meet me down on the athletics field in ten minutes. We have wasted enough time already. Anyone later than that consider yourselves expelled."

The threat that Izuku had been more than happy to confirm as being fully serious got them all down onto the field in less than five much to his older brother/uncle's clear amusement. Shouta scanned the cluster of students before locking eyes with Eijiro. "Kirishima, you placed first in the entrance exam, right? What was your record softball throw last year?"

Eijiro straightened slightly. "Oh, uh, 58 meters?"

Shouta pulled out a soft ball and tossed it to him. "Go stand in that circle over there and throw this using your Quirk."

Eijiro nearly fumbled the ball tossed at him but was quick to comply. As he wound up his pitch, his skin hardened and cracked as the energy of One for All poured out of him earning several noises of approval from the crowd at the effect. The ball left his hand as if it had been shot and vanished into the distance. "All of you need to know your maximum capabilities. It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a Pro Hero." Shouta turned the screen he had pulled out around to display a score of 597.3 meters.

Kaminari gave the screen an impressed look. "Whoa, nearly 600 meters? Are you kidding me?"

Asido clapped her hands together clearly excited. "I wanna go! That looks like fun!"

Izuku found himself wincing as Sero chimed in. "This is what I'm talking about! Using our Quirks as much as we want!" Oh that was the wrong thing to say in front of Shouta. Sure, he knew that Shouta was likely going to issue the same threat (that he would definitely carry through with) he used every year regardless, but did they have to literally hand him the chance on a silver platter?

"So this looks fun, huh? You have three years here to become a hero. You think it's all going to be fun and games?" Shouta's formerly blank expression morphed into a smile that Izuku suddenly had to wonder if he had learned from their father. "Idiots. Today you'll compete in eight physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none and will be expelled immediately."

As the majority of the class freaked out slightly, Izuku just gave Shouta a look of exasperation that earned him a more bemused smile. Still, they had all planned for the reveal of the threat of expulsion in advance. Tenya's hand shot up, more than happy to act as their plant like he had for Hizashi for the entrance exam. "Wait, isn't this all a bit unfair to Midoriya? How is he supposed to not end up in last place for a test for Quirks?"

Shouta snorted. "If Loki doesn't beat most of you in the endurance run I would be shocked. Quirks are just tools that you have at your disposal. While he has one less tool in his toolbox then the rest of you, he has more than trained to compensate. You need to remember that he is a former vigilante and really should not be underestimated. Especially when it comes to endurance."

Shouta was not even remotely surprised that his predictions for how his students would do for the assessment were pretty right on the money for most of the students. The only surprise had come from Mineta with him placing first on the repeated side steps with his clever Quirk work but with that being the only test he clearly gave his all in that he didn't place last in…

Yeah, Shouta was not all that surprised when the boy actually gave a sigh of relief at seeing he had been the one to place last. "Mineta, go get changed and head to the principal's office."

That earned him a reaction of surprise from Yaoyorozu. "Wait, you were actually serious about expelling someone? I thought it was a logical ruse or something to make us give it our all?"

Shouta her a slightly puzzled look as shoved the halo projector back into his pocket. "I expelled my entire homeroom from the course last year. Heroics is a deadly career to not take everything you do seriously." He turned to look back at Mineta. "You didn't actually want to join the course, did you?"

Mineta sagged as he felt the eyes all on him. "It is not that the idea of being a Hero doesn't appeal to me, it is just… kinda too scary for me? The idea of having to face real Villains anyways. My father always said I would get over the fear and be an awesome Hero but after seeing how I stack up against even just with our class, I just feel kinda lame. I mean, look at Midoriya, he is Quirkless and still kicks more ass than I ever could."

Izuku made a noise of sympathy but his son Hitoshi's reaction caught him by surprise. "Damn, your asshole father strikes again. Sucks dude." He cast his gaze around the class. "Well, even if you aren't sticking with our class, you are still welcome to hang out in the meme chat with us."

Shouta found himself smiling as the class seemed to come to a quick consensus that just because he was losing his seat, that did not mean he was not still an honorary member. By the time he and the boy had finally extracted themselves from the class, the poor kid's eyes were red from happy tears. It was not often that a student losing their seat went this well so Shouta had to mentally pat Izuku and Hitoshi on the back for their help.

Mineta jumped slightly as the door to Nedzu's office opened in front of them before he could knock. "Ah, Mineta and Aizawa, I was wondering how long it would be until I saw you. It seemed like 1-A seemed reluctant to let Young Mineta here go from what I could see out on the field from here."

Shouta rolled his eyes. "Let's just get this taken care of so everyone can go home for the day."

Mineta gave Nedzu an uncertain look. "You were expecting us?"

Nedzu smiled at the kid. "But of course! Between knowing your sensei here and what I know of you from your application process here at UA, I knew that your transfer was inevitable. You wished to join the business course, correct? I am sorry but it will likely take a few days to transfer you in. We do of course get people dropping the course for general studies every year but generally it takes until after internship week so you will be technically joining general studies in the meantime. Don't worry, you will still be having all the pathway focused classes that business students get. You will just have your general studies classes before lunch with your temporary homeroom instead since it is currently unknown which of the three classes will be your more permanent home…"

That was about when Shouta checked out. Yeah, all of this stuff was pretty important to go over and explain with the kid, but he was not sure why he had not been handed the paperwork to sign and been dismissed yet.

"...which is why you will be remaining in 1-A for homeroom for now."

That jerked Shouta back to full attention. "Come again?"

Nedzu gave him an amused look. "I see no reason to remove him from your homeroom class until a seat opens up in the correct course given that you don't have an immediate replacement. If he was just going into general education or support, there would be less of an issue since the school charter does not prevent the addition of extra seats in those classes after the start of the year but like Heroics, the Business course does due to its equally competitive nature. It is only temporary and means that he will participate in the Sports Festival as a 1-A student but he will not be expected to do a Heroic's internship and like I said, he will be replacing the Heroic's lessons with Business ones."

Shouta sighed and nodded massaging his forehead. "Okay. But what about the week between the Sports Festival and the start of Internships? I would like to get his replacement into the class so that they could do their proper internship instead of having to do one of the general education ones."

"We will wait to formally transfer that student until after Internship week and have them join in all of 1-A's Heroics lessons until then."

Shouta gave the Rat a look. "This seems needlessly complicated."

Mineta nodded. "I kinda have to agree with Aizawa-sensei here."

Nedzu gave a small huff. "I am aware. Unfortunately, if we are to sneak your transfer past your father on the school board, we have to be a bit clever about it. It is my hope that by the time he realizes you have been switched, we have your old seat filled and your new one lined up so he is less likely to fight it. As is clear from the fact he pressured you into the Hero course in the first place, he does not seem to take your own preference into account."

Mineta sagged. "Oh. I guess that makes a bit of sense. So I will still be wearing the hero course jacket for classes despite not being in it anymore for now?"

"Correct."

Welcome to Hell Class 1-A

Fine Wine: So I have news

I am not out of the class entirely yet even if I am no longer technically in Heroics

Nedzu is trying to con my father so I can actually join the business course like I had wanted to in the first place

Loud Blonde: That is good and all but why do you want to go into business?

That doesn't sound fun at all?

Fine Wine: I like math

Doing Heroics analytics and merchandising sounds fun

Sue me

Loud Blonde: Gross

Tired Gay: ignore him

he just hates math because he is dyslexic

Alien Queen: Oh same hat

Words are mostly fine but numbers suck 😭

Tired Gay: did you mention that in your application to ua?

the teachers sort of need to know about that sort of thing to make accommodations for you to keep you caught up with the rest of the class

Alien Queen: That is a thing?

Tired Gay: yeah?

ua is great about that sort of thing

it is why i am not taking english with the rest of you guys and doing it after normal school hours when i am actually awake again

i am sure that ectoplasm will be more than happy to help you with your dyscalculia

Knock-off Spiderman: Ectoplasm?

Wait, is he the math teacher?

Agent of Chaos: Yep!

Before you ask, both Hitoshi and I know who all the heroes on staff are

My Dad plays chess with Nedzu on the regular at my house

Kavachi: Plus there is the whole you hanging out around Aizawa-sensei as a vigilante

Agent of Chaos: /\ That too

Himiko threw herself dramatically onto her little brother's lap with a sigh. Izuku didn't even look up from his phone but did shift her to lay more comfortably on his lap. "Bad day?"

"You have no idea how lucky you are to be in Shouta-nii's class. As much as I like Nedzu, if I never had to sit through one of his speeches again, it would be too soon. I swear the pink haired girl from my Support classes and Homeroom looked ready to murder someone from having to sit still for so long and then being told we would not get to see the Support labs until tomorrow afternoon."

Izuku hummed and treaded his fingers through her hair, pulling her buns free as he set down his phone. "Sit up a bit. You can rant while I practice my braiding on you."

Himiko was more than happy to comply. She loved the feeling of someone playing with her hair. It was soothing and reminded her that she had people who cared about her enough to do so now. "I mean there is not much to say other than everyone seemed bored out of their skulls. I am like 95% sure that Hizashi was listening to an audio book or something on his headphones from some of the expressions I caught him trying to stifle. The new Heroics's teacher with All Might just straight up slept through the whole thing after Nedzu introduced him as All Might's teaching assistant. As did maybe Snipe. While it was kinda hard to tell behind his mask, his breathing did slow down after a bit-"

Before she could continue more, the front door opened and there was a sound of small hurried feet before Eri appeared to tackle the two of them with the slower heavier tread of their father behind her. "You're home! You are never going to guess what me and Dad did while you were gone!"

Himiko tugged her baby sister into her lap. "Oh?"

Izuku gently tugged on the new sparkly stuffed toy octopus in her hands. "If I had to guess you got this in the aquarium gift shop."

Eri gained a smug look and tugged her toy close to her chest. "Nope! We went to the museum to look at dinosaurs! They were really cool!"

Himiko gave the plush toy a puzzled look. "Okay, so where did the octopus come from?"

Eri's grin turned a bit feral. "We stopped at the toy store on the way home. It was all a logical ruse!" She paused as if remembering something. "Uncle Shouta isn't here yet right?"

Izuku shook his head. "No. He, Hizashi and Hitoshi are coming over later around when Tomura, Dabi, 'Giri and the rest of the League are."

Her grin was back. "Good! I want to trick him too!"

Their father was looking at Eri with a clear look of pride as he walked over to ruffle her hair. "She came up with the little plan all on her own in the museum gift shop so we didn't end up getting anything from there today outside of a couple of museum pins." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a couple enamel pins, one of a dinosaur skull and the other of a koi, both branded with the name of the Musutafu Museum of Natural Sciences.

Eri perked up as she saw them. "Oh! I need to go put those with my other treasure!"

Their Dad just chuckled and handed them over before she darted off to go hide them wherever she hid her "treasure." Himiko could see the fondness in his face as he watched her leave. "Such a cute little dragon, don't you think?"

Shoto really did not want to be here. He knew that his real parents would not bat an eye if he was to show up for dinner with them tonight but instead Fuyumi had pressured him to play nice for at least dinner tonight with Endeavor in the hopes that they would be more easily able to get out of more "family" dinners later on over the week.

Though, given that she said she had a surprise for dinner tonight that he would like, perhaps it would not be all bad. Shoto was hoping it would be Soba. While that would not be enough to put up with having to sit at the dinner table with the man for the evening, it would at least make the dinner more tolerable.

Especially since he was having to sit awkwardly in the same house as Endeavor alone right now. At least the man seemed to have decided to leave him largely alone so long as he was on his phone texting in the group chat.

"Er, Shoto, did you have a good first day?"

Shoto did not look up, tagging the chat with the conspiracy board meme that Izuku had taught him after once again raising the idea of Katsuki being Best Jeanist's secret love child in the chat with more "proof." He wondered how many people in their class thought he was being serious with that one. He hoped a few. It would be funny if he could actually convince a few people of it. "I have started a conspiracy that one of my friends is secretly Best Jeanist's son to mess with some of my classmates. I think I might have convinced a couple that I actually think it is true."

There was a surprising burst of female laughter from the doorway. Oh, Fuyumi wasn't alone. "Holy shit Yumi, you never said your baby brother was funny? Jeanist having a kid? Hilarious!"

Endeavor gave Mirko a look of surprise as she half leaned on a lightly blushing Fuyumi. "Usagiyama, I was not aware you would be joining us."

She waved him off. "Just Rumi is fine. I am here as your daughter's girlfriend, not as your coworker."

Fuyumi lifted the bags of takeout in her hands. "I thought I would invite her over for dinner while she was still in town. The takeout was her idea though."

Shoto pulled himself to his feet and offered a hand to his sister to take one of the takeout bags. "Did you get me Soba?"

Fuyumi rolled her eyes and shifted bags around to hand him one. "In this one. How better to celebrate your first day of UA than with your favorite?"

Mirko brightened and reached over to ruffle Shoto's hair. "Oh, right that was today wasn't it? Which class you in? Eraserhead's or Vlad King's?"

Shoto frowned and combed his hair back into place with his fingers, "Eraser's but I knew that before today. I am friends with his son and younger siblings."

She snapped her fingers. "Oh, right, Dabi said you used to sleep over at his place before his parents bought their new house since that was where Loki liked to sleep at the time."

Shoto tilted his head slightly. "Technically it is Tomura's and Kurogiri's place but yes."

She waved him off. "Semantics. So you did the Quirk assessment test today right? How many people did Eraserhead send home crying this year?"

It took a second for him to understand the question. "Oh. He only expelled one boy from the course in our class but he never wanted to be in the hero course in the first place and was happy to transfer out. Mineta's father is on the UA school board so we are pretty sure he forced Nedzu to add him into the course in the first place. Especially since Nedzu is planning on some misdirection to get him transferred over to business like he originally wanted."

She actually looked quite surprised by that. "Wow, really? Damn, your classmates must be an impressive group this year. We lost like half of my class on the first day back in my first year. I mean, I figured your class was going to be an interesting one since both Eraser's kid and Loki are in your year but I was not expecting that."

Shoto just shrugged.
