Chapter 3 - Awaken in space

Outer space, above the surface of Planet Gaia, Year 2925 in Gaia's calendar, on a space carrier orbiting a blue planet. "Pshhh," "thud," an upright sleep pod hissed open, and a naked, muscular, grey-skinned Shawn, with yellow eyes and long silver hair, fell out of it.

"Ugh,"

Shawn opened his eyes. He was shocked to find himself in an octagonal room with steel walls and a floor covered in thick cables. He turned and saw six other pods standing behind him.

"Where the hell am I? Didn't I die?" Shawn asked.

Shawn stood up. He looked into a pod that was still closed. He immediately stumbled back, seeing a frozen girl inside the pod, still asleep, naked, and suspended in a yellow fluid. He realized he was naked too, and the floor was wet from the fluid that had spilled from his pod. He walked and inspected the contents of the pods one by one. In the six pods, there were four girls and two young men, all still asleep.

He turned back to the pod he had slept in and found a card that looked like a metal plate. He touched the card, and laser beams shot out of it, forming a floating holographic screen in the air. Startled, Shawn dropped the card, but the holographic screen remained. He slowly moved closer, reading the single line of text: "Activate personal artificial intelligence? YES NO"

Confused, Shawn naturally hit "YES." Suddenly, the holographic screen vanished. Lasers from the card formed the figure of a woman in an officer's uniform, about 20cm tall. The holographic woman bowed before Shawn.

"My name is A.I.S.H.A., which stands for Angel's Intelligence System Helper Assistant," Aisha said.

"Huh, you can talk? Where the hell am I?" Shawn asked.

"Very well, I'll explain everything, but before that." Aisha snapped her fingers. A black liquid flowed from the card and instantly enveloped Shawn's body. Shawn was baffled, but then the black liquid hardened into a black military undershirt, a white jacket, metal gauntlets, black three-quarter pants, and boots. Shawn looked at his clothes, completely flustered.

"Please place this card on your wrist," Aisha instructed.

Shawn picked up the card and slapped it onto his wrist. Magically, the card curved and stretched, wrapping around Shawn's wrist to become a bracelet with a small digital clock display in the center. Aisha's body, which was originally 20cm tall, shrank to only 10cm. Shawn was speechless, genuinely confused by everything in front of him.

"Alright, I'll explain who you are. Let's head to the bridge," Aisha invited, pointing to the exit.

Shawn walked, following Aisha's lead, and left the room. He walked down a short corridor to a steel door at the end. "Screeeech," the steel door slid open. Shawn's eyes immediately bulged. He was inside an octagonal room with four chairs, each facing a console. Two chairs were right up front, directly in front of a transparent viewport with control yokes. Shawn was stunned, looking around with his mouth wide open.

"Wow," he mumbled.

He looked forward, realizing he was on a space carrier in orbit, and he could see a massive blue circle below him—a huge, blue planet like Earth, but its landmasses were more brown like a desert than green.

"That planet down there... is that Earth?" Shawn asked.

"No, below you is Planet Gaia," Aisha replied.

"Huh? Planet Gaia? So the planet below us isn't Earth? Hey, explain!" Shawn asked, shocked.

"I will explain after this. First, I'll give you an explanation of who you are and what you actually are. You were included in the Watcher Project, a special individual genetically created using alien organism DNA and human DNA, along with nano-technology, called an Angel," Aisha answered.

Aisha opened a holographic screen that replayed the execution. But what made Shawn's eyes bulge was the footage after his death: the officer who read his story met with Emma in an interview room and told her about the government's Watcher Project. Emma was seen nodding and agreeing with what the officer said, then signing a document. After that, Emma left the room carrying Shawn's book.

The footage then switched to a surgical room in a facility, showing the brain surgery process. Shawn's eyes widened, seeing that the person lying on the bed is his dead body, and doctors were carefully removing his brain, then storing it in a tube and freezing it. The footage switched again, opening the tube and transferring Shawn's brain into his current body, then cryogenically freezing his body in the sleep pod for several thousand years.

Shawn was shocked by the footage, but what made him sad was seeing Emma agree and sign the document to have him included in the Watcher Project. He felt Emma had betrayed him, and it hurt his heart deeply.

"Did Emma want to get revenge on me for killing her mother by turning me into this, or did she just want to get rid of me so she wouldn't have to visit my grave," Shawn muttered to himself. "Hahahahaha... even after dying, I'm still betrayed, sentenced to live again as a freak," Shawn laughed, tears streaming down his face.

"Whoosh," a screen popped up from Shawn's bracelet. He looked at it with teary eyes and a wide smile.

After reading his profile, his smile stopped, and he turned to look at the blue planet, which was Planet Gaia, below him, staring at it with intense anger and a tightly clenched jaw. After that, Aisha explained the Angels to Shawn and what an Angel was.

"Angels possess incredible strength. The amoebas on this planet contain an iron element, making the Angel's muscle fibers hard as iron, and all organs are protected by flexible yet strong iron plating. Furthermore, an Angel has tentacles on its back that can be used for offense or defense, due to the amoeba DNA factor. Angels are also immortal because the nano-machines in your cells constantly regenerate your cells, making you unable to age or be severely injured," Aisha said.

After that, Aisha also explained that the Angels possessed the foundation of peak human DNA, sourced from the most accomplished people around the world. Angels have above-average martial arts capabilities and possess an internal energy source in their bodies. They have intelligence far surpassing normal humans and possess inexhaustible stamina. In other words, an Angel cannot get tired or sick.

"Hoo, is that right?" Shawn asked.

After hearing Aisha's explanation, Shawn looked at his pale hands, his eyes blinking, though his eyelids didn't drop down but sideways. Then, "bwooosh," Shawn punched forward, and the wind from the punch hit all the equipment in the cockpit.

"Hmm... this is interesting," Shawn muttered.

He immediately stood up, and he definitely felt something on his back that he hadn't realized was there before. He moved his hand behind him and pulled a iron tentacle from his back to the front. After seeing the tentacle, he smiled.

Then, Aisha explained about Planet Gaia and the space carrier's journey from Earth aboard the USS Frontier—the ship Shawn was currently on—as well as the origin of Gaia and what the USS Frontier did to the planet, which was previously named Kepler-22b.

However, Shawn didn't pay much attention to Aisha's explanation. He kept looking down at Planet Gaia below him.

"Hah... so I really was just a government project. Plus, now I live forever? Interesting. Since you brought me back, I'm going to live however the hell I want. Plus, now I have the power to carry out my mission... Planet Gaia or Earth, it's all the same," Shawn muttered to himself with a terrifying smile.
