Chapter 114 - Chapter 114: Anbu's First Mission

Not long after, there was a knock on the door. When the door opened, three Anbu members entered. Chiri estimated that these three were her teammates.

"Purple Rhino, you and Kyōri can go. From today onwards, she will be your subordinate."

Sarutobi Shinnosuke looked at the leader of the three Anbu members who had entered, a tall Ninja wearing a green rhino mask.

"Alright, Squad Leader. Kyōri, right? Follow me. We'll go pick up a mission first."

This Anbu Captain was clearly a man of few words, leading the three directly towards the counter in the hall.

"I'm here to collect today's Anbu daily mission. My Anbu codename is Purple Rhino."

Chiri looked at this scene with some curiosity. Chiri knew that Anbu missions were divided into daily missions and special assignments.

Daily missions involved patrolling within the village or a certain area of the Land of Fire, or standing guard at the Hokage Building.

Special missions were issued by the Third Hokage and assigned by the Anbu Squad Leader, such as surveillance, pursuit, assassination, and escort.

Daily missions should be quite easy, but probably also very boring, because Chiri often sensed some Anbu members monitoring certain areas, remaining perfectly still.

The staff at the counter didn't say much, simply took out a wooden tag, handed it to Captain Purple Rhino, and then recorded that a certain mission had been accepted.

"Let's go. Today's mission is to patrol the east side of the Ninja Academy and protect the Ninja Academy students."

Purple Rhino put the wooden tag into his Ninja pouch, seemingly remembering that Chiri had just joined Anbu, so he decided to explain a bit.

"Because we are currently in the early stages of war, there's a high possibility of enemy Ninja causing sabotage, or spies who have been discovered might be desperate and try to take some people down with them."

Chiri nodded. When she was at the Ninja Academy, she had indeed sensed Anbu guarding the area around the Ninja Academy.

It made sense. The Ninja Academy had a total of five or six hundred students. If they were all killed due to enemy sabotage behind the lines, it would truly lead to a talent gap.

It would take at least four or five years to recover. Without the fresh blood of about one hundred Genin each year, a sustained four-year period like that would be disastrous.

The Anbu traveled very quickly, mostly on rooftops, and soon reached the east side of the Ninja Academy.

"Let's introduce ourselves first. My codename is Purple Rhino, and I am your Anbu Captain. I specialize in Water Release and Taijutsu."

Captain Purple Rhino should be the strongest of the three. His Chakra level seemed to be that of a Special Jonin, and his strength was likely at that level as well.

Purple Rhino softly finished his introduction, then looked at a female Ninja to his right.

"I am Shadow Leopard. I specialize in assassination and stealth."

The black-haired female Ninja was extremely cold. She seemed difficult to get along with, and her eyes were sharp. However, her strength should be second only to Captain Purple Rhino.

"Haha, my codename is Muddled Deer. I specialize in Sensory Ninjutsu and Wind Release, and I'm also a new recruit who just joined this year."

Muddled Deer's Chakra was barely at the Chunin level. Judging by his voice, he wasn't very old, perhaps fourteen or fifteen. If not for his Sensory Ninjutsu, he probably wouldn't have qualified to join Anbu.

"Hello everyone. Kyōri is my codename. I specialize in Medical Ninjutsu and Genjutsu. I'm also proficient in other Ninjutsu and Kenjutsu, and I can use Sealing Technique."

Chiri counted on her fingers. She felt that she had been humble enough, only stating two of her specialties to compensate for the squad's shortcomings.

"Hmm, very good. You're a new member. If you don't understand anything, you can ask us. I hope we can get along well during our time as a team."

Purple Rhino wasn't aware of Chiri's identity or how strong she was. He looked at Chiri's height and thought she was probably a Genin who had just graduated from the Ninja Academy, chosen for her outstanding Medical Ninjutsu.

"Haha, that's great! With Medical Ninjutsu, we won't be afraid of getting injured. Don't worry, I'll protect you, Kyōri."

Muddled Deer was indeed very happy, because it had only been less than ten years since Tsunade announced the vigorous cultivation of Medical Ninja and the goal of equipping every squad with a Medical Ninja.

Medical Ninja were still very scarce. Having a Medical Ninja would greatly increase the squad's endurance.

"Hmph! Just state what you're best at. Other things you've just learned aren't worth mentioning in an introduction."

Shadow Leopard's voice was cold, with a hint of sarcasm. She truly believed this newcomer was a bit arrogant. Even a Jonin wouldn't dare claim proficiency in so many areas, yet this newcomer, who was at most a recent graduate, dared to exaggerate so much.

Because this could lead to teammates misjudging your strength, causing one side to collapse and the entire line to break down, which is very dangerous.

Chiri didn't say much. It was best if they thought of her as a rookie; that way, she could easily slack off.

"Alright, no need to be so strict. Kyōri is just a newcomer. We should take care of her, there's no need to be harsh."

Purple Rhino stepped in to ease the atmosphere. He was a bit helpless about Shadow Leopard's attitude, as their previous teammate had also exaggerated his strength due to arrogance, which led to his death and forced them to face a siege, abandon their mission, and flee for their lives.

"Shadow Leopard means well. Kyōri, please don't mind her. She's actually a very good person and a reliable teammate."

Purple Rhino was impartial, able to balance things out. As an Anbu Captain, he was somewhat overqualified; his strength would probably suffice for a Squad Leader.

"Ahaha, don't mind her. That's just how Shadow Leopard is. I was also reprimanded by her when I first joined, but she doesn't mean any harm."

Muddled Deer scratched the back of his head and laughed loudly. With him and Purple Rhino easing the atmosphere, Chiri was even less bothered, and Shadow Leopard's gaze was no longer so sharp.

"It's fine. From today onwards, I look forward to learning from all of you, seniors." Chiri's tone was also somewhat cool, but it didn't give people the same feeling as Shadow Leopard's.

"Okay, I'll divide your responsible areas. Shadow Leopard, you're responsible for ~~~. Finally, if there's any situation, remember to use signal fireworks."

The eastern perimeter of the Ninja Academy was very large, bordering the forest area, so to completely cover it with just four people, it naturally required dividing the area.

Chiri had no objections. She had the Telescope Technique. She would have her Shadow Clone monitor, while she herself would learn the Ninjutsu from the three Ninja villages she had obtained this time.

Chiri's hand seal speed had now reached six seals per second. She was currently attempting to perform one-handed hand seals, and Chiri was very confident in this area.

Because hand seals mainly involve the corresponding manipulation of hand signs and Chakra, to learn one-handed hand seals, one needs to create twelve types of one-handed hand signs and then match them with two-handed hand signs.

This was a process of developing muscle memory, and Chiri had left more than thirty physical Shadow Clones at home, having them learn Chakra Nature Transformation, Wind Release Chakra Mode, and Uchiha Chiri's Genjutsu and Genjutsu-style Kenjutsu.
