Chapter 7 - 7. “True and False Artoria!”

In the sky, Vortigern was pierced by the beam.

His soul was erased, but as a white dragon his body held colossal mana.

The beam detonated it.

A rain of blood fell from the sky, blanketing the land like a funeral.

But the knights rejoiced, even Gawain hugging Lancelot uncontrollably.

"King! King! King!"

They bathed in dragon blood.

Its mana nourished their bodies.

Arthur, closest to the dragon, benefited the most.

Knights celebrated, comments celebrated too.

[Wasn't Caliburn broken? How is it intact here?]

[Shocking! 100 secrets between Arthur and Morgan le Fay!]

[Morgan's eyes toward Arthur look weirdly doting… am I imagining it?]

[Same. Weren't they enemies? This doesn't match what we know.]

[Maybe this is the real hidden history… okay fine, it can't be real. Wonder how the real Arthur will react.]

[Either way, Arthur was insanely cool. I'm shipping Morgan×Arthur forever!]

[End credits… when's episode 2?]

[There's a second ep?! 10,000-person petition for the uploader to release it!]

In Britannia's palace.

"Father King… this video is fake, right?"

Mordred wanted to close it.

From midway on it had become ridiculous.

Caliburn couldn't be real—she'd seen the broken short blade as a child.

And Vortigern had been killed by Arthur and many knights together.

The Father King in the video was awesome… no, it had to be fabricated, right? The power scaling was too absurd.

"It's fake. Caliburn is broken. Vortigern was too strong for me to defeat alone."

Artoria nodded, but a trace of expectation lingered in her eyes.

If the story continued, perhaps that king could truly change Britannia's fate.

She found herself looking forward to what came next.

"Mordred—tell me when there's an update. If anyone asks about the video's authenticity…"

Artoria reached the door, then froze and stepped back.

"Father King… we should announce it's fake, right?"

Mordred walked over to see her out.

"No. The video might be real."

Artoria's voice trembled.

"I know—we'll announce it's fa—?!" Mordred's eyes bulged.

"How… how are there two Father Kings?! No—one of them is so much taller, and… bigger…"

Mordred rubbed her eyes.

She hadn't been drinking. She'd quit booze long ago as Father King's assistant.

But there really were two Father Kings in front of her.

And the other one was… gorgeous. That chest, that height, that figure…

No, focus! Why are there two Father Kings?!

"She is the King Arthur from the video."

Artoria stared gravely at the similar-looking figure.

The aura she gave off matched the video's Arthur almost perfectly.

(To distinguish them, the modern one will be called Artoria, and the video one "King Arthur.")

"You're Mo-brat… but also not."

King Arthur ignored Artoria and looked at Mordred.

After a moment, she shook her head and turned to Artoria.

"Your strength—I don't accept it. Too weak."

Artoria almost snapped.

I'm weak? You think you're strong?

The video Arthur was strong, yes, but modern Artoria was strong too.

Keeping her royal composure, she didn't explode.

She asked her question instead:

"Were you summoned here as a Heroic Spirit too? Was that you in the video?"

"I… count as one, I guess. And yes, that was me. You didn't fulfill a father's duty. I don't acknowledge you much."

She'd already absorbed this world's information and history.

Her verdict: this world's Arthur was a failure as king and as a father.

"I…"

Artoria closed her eyes briefly.

"Fine. Not here to argue. If the Arthur from that video walks reality, it'll cause massive upheaval."

"I don't know your aim. If you're here to protect Britannia, you're welcome. If you're here to cause chaos, I'll use force."

Artoria didn't want to negotiate further.

If King Arthur truly was from the video, she likely wouldn't harm Britannia.

But she might seize the throne.

Still… as long as the people were happy, who cared about a throne?

"King! I made dinner. Let's—… I must be drunk. I only sipped a little today, why am I dizzy?"

Gawain walked in, carrying two giant plates of potatoes.

Then he saw two kings.

"Potatoes… didn't I tell you there are dedicated cooks? Gawain, just do your knightly duties."

"Gawain, didn't I forbid you from the kitchen?"

Artoria and King Arthur spoke in unison.

But King Arthur's voice was more alluring—like a charming big sister next door.

Mordred stepped aside and explained what had happened.

"So that's it. Two kings, one from the video, right?"

Gawain nodded in realization.

"Sort of. I don't know the reason either," Mordred said.

They looked at the two kings facing each other, unsure whom to side with.

"Seems none of the people I know are here. You aren't the ones I'm familiar with."

After watching them, King Arthur sighed and turned to leave.

"Wait. You're a king too. Why won't you stay and protect this country?"

Artoria called after her.

"Me? I already protected it once and fulfilled my duty. Now I want to travel. If Britannia is in danger, I'll help."
