Zhou Yi was extremely grateful that the Earth revolved around the sun while also spinning on its own axis. This behavior, besides causing the constant alternation of day and night, was crucial in creating the magical thing known as time zones. And this magical time difference was absolutely critical for Zhou Yi.
Even though the sun was just rising in London, and dawn had arrived, on the other side of the ocean, in New York, it was still shrouded in darkness, with no sign of dawn in sight. This was precisely what Zhou Yi hoped for. If he let a guy like Makinos live until sunrise, it would be the biggest insult to him.
The boundless ocean couldn't stop his steps. In just over ten minutes, he would let Makinos taste the fury of his rage. However, did Makinos really have that much time left?
Inside the castle, Yukio was desperately guarding the safety of the Elevator. Although his swordsmanship had reached a certain level of mastery, facing so many Variants attacking him, he was already stretched thin, his heart full but his strength lacking.
Even the strongest lion couldn't defeat a pack of jackals, let alone what he was facing, which was far more terrifying than jackals.
The Longsword slashed fiercely across a Variant's throat, completely severing that vicious weapon before it could even spit out its disgusting tongue. At the same time, Yukio closed in on a Variant's body, using the force from his shoulder and back to slam it hard against the wall.
The Variant, pinned, instinctively reached out to grab Yukio. In its mind, once it grabbed him, it was basically a death sentence. But Yukio paid no attention to its scratching, and instead quickly pulled out the Dagger from his waist. The blade followed the seam of the Variant's armpit and fiercely pierced its heart.
Having grasped the Variants' weaknesses, for a swordsmanship master like him, killing a Variant one-on-one was no pressure at all. But this wasn't one-on-one; it was a pack of hungry wolves hunting him.
The Variant behind him had already turned into a blue torch. Before it could completely turn to ashes, other Variants were already rushing forward with outstretched arms. For the Variants, the possibility of being killed by him was extremely low, unless a vital point was struck. But for Yukio, even a small injury could be fatal. Every loss of stamina was a step closer to the abyss of death.
However, for him, there was no other choice. A Samurai might betray their lord, but they would never abandon them.
The longsword swung again, and the gleaming blade effortlessly tore through the chest of the Variant that had pounced in front of him. Yet, it couldn't inflict any damage to the heart beneath. Such an injury meant nothing to Yukio.
He withdrew the sword, creating a gap between him and another Variant's arm. Taking the opportunity, the dagger plunged in from below, piercing through flesh and blood, and ruining the brain. Even if it couldn't kill the Variant, it could still render it unconscious. A mindless Variant couldn't even hunt, which was far inferior to the new pets that Makinos had created.
Yukio kicked away the brain-dead Variant. Just as he was about to attack the next opponent, he suddenly felt his body sink. A small, agile Variant had jumped onto him. He had been fighting for too long, and the high-intensity combat had blurred his consciousness. He could no longer grasp the space around him, and this was fatal.
The Variant behind him shot out a tongue to suck blood, which firmly latched onto Yukio's neck. Yukio roared, and the dagger slashed across his neck, cutting off half of his ear and severing the Variant's tongue.
The Variant roared in pain, while Yukio plunged the longsword into the Variant's chest from under his ribs. The hard Bone Armor made it difficult for the blade to penetrate the vital points, but Yukio continued to push the hilt. The longsword began to emit a slight creak, and cracks appeared on it.
The hard Bone Armor could no longer withstand the longsword's thrust. The cold blade broke through the Bone Armor's defense and deeply pierced into the beating heart. The Variant immediately burst into Flames, and the longsword in Yukio's hand let out a soft groan and snapped in two.
Yukio touched his neck, but the bleeding wound didn't hurt at all. This made Yukio's heart sink; he knew the Variant's virus had entered his body. Looking around, he saw Variants everywhere, eager to attack. In the middle of them, Chadnorma watched him with disdain.
"My father's loyal dog, how does it feel? Soon you'll become one of my Descendants, and then I'll see if you can still be loyal to my father!"
After saying this, Chadnorma waved his hand. A swarm of Variants surged past Yukio and rushed towards the Elevator. The Elevator doors couldn't withstand the monsters' force, and soon the deep Elevator shaft appeared before them.
Yukio gripped his Dagger, wanting to stop the Variants. But the feeling of weakness in his body prevented him from even swinging his blade. He felt that his path had reached its end. Looking at the broken blade in his hand, Yukio resolutely plunged the blade into his own heart. Flames quietly ignited. Watching Chadnorma's furious expression, he spoke his final words.
"I will only die like a Samurai, and I will not live as a monster."
Chadnorma felt as if tongues of fire were burning his heart; the searing pain made him roar. Hearing his roar, the Variants' movements became even faster. They all squeezed into the small Elevator shaft, chasing after the direction Makinos had gone.
At this moment, light suddenly appeared in the Corridor. It was a brilliant blaze, burning and surging. They crowded in the narrow space, racing along the Corridor, like horses galloping from the sun, showering their light upon everything.
The light produced by Verien's Optical Bomb, detonated before her death, radiated and surged along the Corridor. Now, it was finally fulfilling its true purpose. All the Variants just stared blankly as the light swept over them; it was simply too fast, so fast that they barely had time to react.
Chadnorma only felt a piercing light emanating from the elevator shaft before him, causing his whole body to tingle. Instinctively, he shielded himself. Some of the light still struck him, making him feel as if he were being burned alive, with a sensation of being scorched all over. When the light dissipated, he ignored his injuries and rushed toward the elevator shaft.
What he saw there drove him to a furious roar. Not a single Variant remained; all of them had been turned into swirling blue flames in that dazzling light.
"This is impossible! Absolutely not!" he roared, slamming his fist against the wall. His hardened fist pulverized the castle's bricks, leaving behind a starkly visible mark of destruction. But he soon shook off this negative emotion. Looking up at the top of the elevator shaft, he bared his teeth and spoke with hatred.
"You think you can stop me like this? Father. Even if I'm the only one left, I'll still get to you. Just you wait."
With that, he plunged into the elevator shaft, scrambling upwards with his hands and feet. He had completely thrown caution to the wind. Death wasn't frightening to him; what was frightening was his revenge remaining a mere fantasy. Revenge had become the most important thing in his life, and risking his life for it was not something he couldn't accept.
Chadnorma was furiously rushing towards his target of revenge. Meanwhile, Makinos was anxious to get away from this place that could take his life at any moment.
Sitting in the back of the airplane, he kept a close watch for any sign of Variants while constantly urging his daughter.
"Nisha, Nisha! Hurry up, we need to leave here immediately!"
However, despite his repeated urging, Nisha didn't appear on the airplane. The unmanned aircraft was practically useless, just a piece of scrap metal. Unable to wait any longer, Makinos slowly climbed out of the aircraft and looked up. He saw a massive metal shield slowly closing in.
It was a defensive installation on the airplane's takeoff platform; with it closed, the plane couldn't possibly take off.
"How... who is it?" Makinos's expression was now like that of a ravenous demon.
"It's me, Father." Nisha slowly emerged from the shadows, walking step by step towards Makinos, her gaze calm and detached, as if she were looking at a stranger.
"Nisha?" Makinos roared in disbelief. "Do you know what you're doing? Are you insane? You're trying to kill your father, and we'll all die here."
"Father, are you still unwilling to admit it?" Nisha ignored Makinos's questions, her gaze drifting, her mind elsewhere. "Admit all the mistakes you've made?"
"That's my right!" Makinos was enraged. "I am the master of everything, I have the right to decide what I should do, and you have no right to question anything I do. I am the supreme ruler of the Vampires."
"Perhaps." Hearing a crawling sound from the ceiling behind him, Nisha no longer wanted to argue with her stubborn father. She silently stepped aside. "Let your son, my brother, listen to your explanation."
Just as she stepped aside, a figure leaped in front of Makinos. The heavy force shattered the floor, and the billowing smoke instantly obscured everything. As the dust slowly dissipated, Chadnorma's ecstatic face appeared before Makinos.
"Father, I've finally found you!"
"Chad?" Seeing his long-lost son, Makinos showed no joy; quite the opposite. His aged body slowly retreated, his clumsy movements nearly tripping him. He trembled as he called out his son's nickname, trying to soothe the poison burning in Chadnorma's heart with words.
"You must know that what happened to you is a terrible tragedy, and it has caused me great pain. It was an unforgivable mistake."
"Is that so, Father? Have you realized your mistake?" Chadnorma approached his aging father, his filthy white pupils staring intently. The gaze stung Makinos. But driven by his will to survive, he still reached out, trembling, to touch his son's hideous face.
Chadnorma dodged Makinos's hand, but Makinos didn't give up. He continued to persuade with words.
"Now everything has taken a turn for the better, we are close to success. Come back to me, my son. We will find a cure, you are still my son, and I will let you regain your rightful place."
At this point, he finally trembled and embraced his son.
"You will be the prince of my Empire, the sole heir to my great Empire. Let us conquer this world together."
Hearing this, Chadnorma stopped dodging. He also embraced his father with both hands.
