Chapter 40 - Family Secret History, Prince's Revenge

"That's a powerful self-repair ability. You're probably the most resilient guy I've ever seen," Zhou Yi said, arms crossed, floating closer to Chadnoma. "But I wonder, how many times can you repair yourself? I don't believe this level of repair comes without a cost."

Chadnoma growled menacingly, then immediately turned and fled. His figure leaped across the walls, leaving behind blurred afterimages with each movement. For a normal human, his speed had exceeded the limits of their vision; their eyes simply couldn't keep up.

At this speed, Chadnoma quickly approached the exit. But he would never reach it, at least not until Zhou Yi allowed him to leave.

Black shadows flickered, followed by a piercing bang. Invisible wind pressure, like a solid wall, suddenly appeared in mid-air. Chadnoma felt like a fly caught by a fly swatter, unable to resist, watching helplessly as he was pressed against the wall.

Chadnoma, well-educated as he was, managed a wry smile. He naturally knew why he was in this situation, pinned against the wall out of nowhere.

The Dawn Knight's movement speed had already surpassed the speed of sound, as evidenced by the figure appearing before the sonic boom. And the wind pressure generated by supersonic movement in this enclosed environment was undoubtedly much harder than the walls themselves. In this situation, the Dawn Knight didn't need to do anything; Chadnoma was essentially incapacitated.

Looking at Chadnoma, who looked like a squashed bug, Zhou Yi sneered, "You're very shrewd, not like a warrior, but more like a shrewd businessman or politician. I'm curious about your identity. I think you might be able to answer some of my questions!"

Speaking of which, Zhou Yi reached out his hand. Telekinesis restrained Chadnoma's body, pulling him towards Zhou Yi as if by an invisible hand.

Chadnoma tried to struggle, but quickly gave up. The power transmitted from his limbs told him that the possibility of breaking free from this restraint was minuscule; even if he succeeded, he would have to pay the price of losing his limbs. This was the most stupid choice, and Chadnoma admitted he wouldn't do that.

So, he wisely chose to compromise. Facing the Dawn Knight, Chadnoma lowered his head.

"If possible, I'm happy to answer your questions, but I don't understand why a strong individual like you would be with the filthy vampires?"

Chadnoma's tone was undoubtedly respectful, but it contained some barbs, as well as a clear contempt for the vampire race that anyone could see.

Zhou Yi was too lazy to pay attention to this low-level provocation. He just said very indifferently, "I'm also curious about this question, but it's not something you should be concerned about. You just need to answer my questions. Understand?"

His five fingers suddenly clenched. For Chadnoma, it felt like his entire body was being squeezed by an invisible giant force, as if a giant was going to crush him alive. Only after Zhou Yi let go did he finally gasp a long breath from his lungs, which had almost exploded from the pressure, as if a drowning man had suddenly received a breath of oxygen.

At this time, Chadnoma was decisively cowed. He nodded vigorously, answering, "I understand, completely understand."

"Alright, let's begin. Starting with the first point of suspicion, that Machinos fellow said an infectious variant surpassing Vampires has appeared, and you're the carrier. I want to know, where do you come from?"

"A variant has appeared? That old man said that?" Chadnoma forced a bitter smile. "Where do I come from? I come from the purest bloodline in the Vampire family."

"That's impossible!" Nisha's voice came from behind them. Her chest was still heaving, revealing her impressive figure and betraying her inner turmoil. "The purest bloodline in the entire Americas can only come from the Machinos Family, the Sabbat's great house. I've never seen you before?"

There were many pure-blood Vampires, possibly thousands in New York alone. But when it came to the purest bloodline, only the Machinos Family, with its ancient lineage, could claim that title. Vampires operated under a strict patriarchal system. Only the elders within the family possessed the purest blood, while others, even pure-bloods, were merely minor figures. And in the Americas, only the Machinos had the status of elders.

The Vampire Duke was, in itself, a symbol of the elder's status within the Sabbat council.

"You haven't seen me, newborn. How long have you even been alive?" Chadnoma's eyes revealed undisguised mockery. "If I remember correctly, about forty years. I held you when you were born; you certainly wouldn't remember. But I must tell you, I share the same blood as you, the same father. I am Chadnoma. Machinos, your real older brother!"

"That's impossible?" Nisha's tone was filled with disbelief. "You're lying to me; you have no proof of your identity!"

"Look at the ring on my left hand. Our father gave it to me when I came of age. You should have one too; it's the mark of the Machinos Family. You think I'm deceiving you? No! The one deceiving you is the one you call father!"

Nisha rushed in front of Chadnoma and ripped the ring from his left hand. She compared the ring to the one she held, but the results brought her despair.

"How did you become like this?" Her question began to tremble; she even regretted asking, because the answer could destroy her faith and ideals.

"You asked a good question, my sister." Chadnoma grinned. "Have you noticed the changes in our father? Doesn't he seem to be getting older and look more like a Yao than a Vampire from a novel? Do you know how long our father has lived?"

"Let me tell you, he's a thousand years old and should have died long ago. The elders would choose to enter a slumber to avoid death, with a few taking turns to slumber, leaving only one to hold power. Our father killed the other elders, our brother, and his first wife. For a thousand years, he has used blood to sustain his life, always holding onto power and refusing to let go."

"You see, he's getting older and weaker. Even bathing in the Blood Spring can't restore his youth. The powerful strength and vitality of the Vampire elders are gradually leaving his body, and perhaps soon even the Blood Spring won't be able to sustain his life."

"He began to use other methods, founding a healthcare and pharmaceutical company, which was just an excuse. He wanted to make breakthroughs in human genetics, at any cost. More than thirty years ago, he imprisoned me, wanting to use the purest blood closest to his own for experiments, in order to get the chance to change that ghastly appearance of his."

"Do you know what he said?" Chadnoma began to imitate the supposedly benevolent face of his father. "Hold on, my son. This is just a small treatment, and you will become the first of our clan, fearless of sunlight and silver, leading us to walk under the sun. And I, too, will gain new life from you."

"Do you know how I got through these years? I really want to show you the scars they left on me, but I have already become like this, and all the wounds have healed."

"But I should also thank them for their efforts. If they hadn't researched that virus, I wouldn't have escaped to take revenge on my father. I want to destroy everything he has. I want him to watch his empire, his power, all disappear in the hands of his own son."

"No! No..." Nisha listened to Chadnoma's words, backing away step by step. Soon, she disappeared into the shadows as if fleeing. The two remaining people could guess that this woman, defeated by the reality of a crazy family drama, was definitely going to their father to verify the truth.

Zhou Yi didn't know the outcome. But he could guess that the Vampire Duke wouldn't do anything to his daughter, at least not out of momentary anger. This kind of person, who sacrifices everything for himself, even if he has to sacrifice his own daughter, will sacrifice her in the most useful way.

So he didn't stop Nisha, nor did he have any reason to stop her. He just continued questioning Chadnoma, as he still had some doubts in his mind.

"If you became this way after your father's experiments, then that means your father succeeded?"

"Do you think I look perfect? This appearance that even I find disgusting?" Chadnoma revealed his mouthparts and tongue. "I am enduring torture from within my body every moment, and even fresh blood cannot suppress this pain. This pain is much more terrible than the urge to suck blood. If it weren't for the goal of revenge, I don't know if I could have held on."

Zhou Yi looked at Chadnoma's appearance, his brows furrowed. He was clearly disgusted as well. But fortunately, a helmet concealed his expression, so Chadnoma couldn't see it. He thought for a moment and still released his control over Chadnoma. From all the clues, it seemed that this Chadnoma should be the protagonist of this story, a story of a prince's revenge.

The Vampire Duke clearly wanted him to play the role of executioner, but Zhou Yi wasn't an actor recommended by the actors' guild who would follow his script. He already had his own script.

Chadnoma, now freed from his restraints, wisely remained where he was. He'd already realized the Dawn Knight didn't seem to be on the vampires' side, which meant they weren't necessarily enemies. In fact, he wanted to bring the Dawn Knight over to his side.

To eradicate the vampires, a plague upon humanity, surely a superhero dedicated to protecting humanity wouldn't refuse such a tempting offer.

But before he could speak, Zhou Yi cut him off.

"I know what you want to say. I can only tell you that I do what I believe is right, regardless of my position. So, the vampires and your problems are of no concern to me right now. After you've settled your issues, if Machinos is still alive, I'll deal with him. But, it seems you're better suited to be his gravedigger."

"Revenge against one's father as a child, that's indeed a typical vampire move." Chadnoma chuckled, a mix of joy and sorrow in his voice.

"I have one last question, and the answer will determine whether I eliminate you here or let you seek revenge on your father. I want the most honest answer possible." For the Dawn Knight to speak like this was enough to show Chadnoma the extent of the threat.

Chadnoma bowed, adopting the posture of a noble, gesturing for the question. At that moment, he truly displayed the bearing of a Vampire Prince, but alas, a tragic one.
