ISOBEL
My head pounded painfully as I forced myself to come back to consciousness.
The air was stale and heavy, and it smelled like rotting wood and the soil. My body ached all over, and when I tried to move, I felt a sharp pain go up through my wrists. My hands were tied behind my back, the rough rope dug into my skin, and I was so sure that it had bruised.
In that moment, I felt my body began to panic but I tried to force myself to remain calm and think of a way to get out of this mess.
What happened? I tried to remember and the memories began to flood back in all at once. It started with the attack on the road, and rogues surrounded us, then they threw a strange powder in the air that made Mason feel weak and unable to fight back. His body collapsed as he tried to save me from the rough hands that grabbed me and dragged me away.
Mason. My stomach hurt badly as I thought about him. Where was he? Was he okay? Had he woken up? Was he hurt? Or worse, was he dead?
