Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Making Your Wishes Come True is Magic

After completing the set of movements, and leaving the black tea simmering on the small stove, Professor Flitwick asked, "Well? What did you see?"

After a moment's thought, he replied, "It contains at least traces of Aguamenti, Levitation Charms, and a kind of fire magic. I don't know if there are any other spell effects, but the key point is that no spells were recited."

I'm not sure if I'm right.

He looked at Professor Flitwick, awaiting his answer.

"It seems you've mastered quite a few spells. Your observation is excellent. Take another look." The professor nodded.

This time, he placed the wand in his other hand, and with a flick of his slender fingers, a teacup floated out from the automatically opening cabinet. A fine line of powdered sugar fell into the cup from a jar beside him.

Finally, the teapot tilted, filling a cup of black tea to seven-tenths full, which floated onto the coffee table in front of Ethan Jones.

"Spellcasting without a wand?"

"Yes, Non-verbal spells and Wandless magic, as advanced abilities of wizards, are knowledge that most junior wizards only come into contact with in their later years."

As for your question about the connection between these abilities and your question about magical control, I can only say that they are completely unrelated.

Seeing Ethan Jones's astonished expression, Professor Flitwick laughed heartily: "Haha, just kidding. Actually, these abilities are all signs of a wizard's high level of skill."

The reason these concepts aren't taught in first year, besides your insufficient abilities, is also because the young wizards' magical power is growing rapidly, making it difficult to maintain such control.

"Once you reach sixth or seventh year, when the rate of increase in magic power gradually slows down, you can try to control the effects of magic and practice Wandless magic and Non-verbal spells."

Ethan Jones was somewhat unwilling: "Professor, can we only learn this in our later years?"

Flitwick took a sip of hot black tea: "Of course not. It's just practice in the lower grades, which is less efficient. Besides, you are very safe at Hogwarts and don't need to fight, so you don't need to practice these skills and abilities that are mainly for combat."

"Safe? Hogwarts has been the most dangerous place in recent years!" he thought to himself.

"Professor, how should I practice these skills if I want to?" For the sake of the future, he still planned to practice these skills.

"Well, besides a lot of practice, you also need to understand one thing—what's most important in magic."

"The most important thing?" Ethan Jones didn't understand what Professor Flitwick was talking about, and he could only try to answer the question based on his own understanding: "Is it magic, spells, or knowledge?"

"None of them are right. Think about it again." The professor shook his head.

After a long while, he still couldn't think of anything more important than these two things: "I don't know, Professor."

"It is thought, Jones, our magic is controlled by our thoughts."

As I mentioned in class, when casting a spell, you must be resolute, without hesitation or distraction, because only by focusing your mind on the spell can you achieve your desired goal.

"Think back to before you enrolled in school. Did you ever achieve any effects that only spells could produce?" Professor Flitwick patiently guided him.

"Yes," Ethan Jones answered with certainty. In the period following his Accidental Magic, besides initially setting his own room on fire, he also made a dead tree blocking his path disappear and restored a damaged road to its original state.

"Back then, you hadn't learned any magic, couldn't chant spells, and your magic was just starting out and not yet abundant. So how did you manage to do all that? Was it because you wanted to do it, that you were able to do it?"

He realized it too, and exclaimed excitedly, "Yes, Professor, because I wanted the dead tree to stop blocking my way and for the road to be restored so I wouldn't have to take a detour, and all of that suddenly came true!"

Professor Flitwick proudly declared, "This is the power of thought, the most important driving force for us wizards."

Magic is the power to make your wishes come true!

Ethan Jones suddenly understood: "So, I need to firmly believe that I can do it, and with a lot of practice and constant familiarization, I can do it, right, Professor Flitwick!"

"Very clever, Jones. It's a shame you weren't sorted into Ravenclaw," Professor Flitwick said, looking at him with regret.

"Hehe." Ethan Jones could only respond with a smile.

"We wizards, like many magical creatures in ancient times, were born free and could cast spells freely without any incantations, wands, or other auxiliary items."

However, due to the passage of time, the dilution of bloodlines, and other reasons, most wizards today cannot do these things. That's why spells and wands came into being. What we are trying to do is actually return to our most primal selves.

He paused for a moment and explained, "Of course, that level is a bit too high. It's just a legendary level. I think even Dumbledore couldn't achieve that."

A Non-verbal spell is simply a spell that is not spoken aloud, but rather recited silently in the mind. To achieve a state where no incantation is needed at all is perhaps only possible with the talent of a wizard.

He thought about it and decided to reveal his talent to the professor who hadn't done anything wrong in the movie. Besides, it wasn't a secret he had to keep hidden; he would use it sooner or later.

He opened his palm, and a fireball appeared in his hand, burning quietly: "Is that so, Professor?"

Professor Flitwick examined the fireball in Ethan Jones's hand closely: "Is this your bloodline talent? Can you control it easily?"

"Yes, Professor." Having chosen to believe, he held nothing back. The fireball in his hand expanded and contracted, constantly changing shape, not confined to a spherical form.

Professor Flitwick clapped his hands excitedly: "Excellent! Excellent! Jones, this is the highest level we aspire to in learning magic! I am increasingly regretting that you didn't join Ravenclaw, and at the same time, I understand why the Sorting Hat sorted you into Slytherin."

"It's like using innate magic. You don't need to chant spells or use a wand. You just need to use your thoughts and your heart to control it."

"I remember you're a wizard from a Muggle family, right?" After Ethan Jones confirmed, he continued, "Then you must have read the Bible. What we wizards seek is the omnipotence of God."

The wizard is your own god; you must remember that.

Ethan Jones murmured, "Are wizards gods?"

"Absolutely correct." Professor Flitwick glanced at the wall clock. "It's getting late, you should go to the Great Hall for lunch soon. I'm going to tell you about techniques for controlling magical effects, you can try them out."

"Okay, thank you, Professor!" He treasured those words in his memory, intending to savor them again after leaving the office.

After a long while, Professor Flitwick finished explaining the techniques for controlling magic and cautioned, "You can try it, but don't force it, lest you hurt yourself."

Before he left, Professor Flitwick added, "Judging from your talent, you may have a knack for some Dark Magic and fire magic."

"Really?" Ethan Jones hadn't expected such an unexpected bonus.

"This is just my guess. You can learn some related magic to try it out. Of course, we don't encourage the use of Dark Magic. You can learn some offensive curses to experiment first. There are some books on minor curses in the library that you can look through."

"Thank you, Professor!" Ethan Jones bowed deeply to Professor Flitwick before leaving the West Tower.
