Chapter 11 - Chapter 10: BAD Day and Decisions

When we get to work the next day, we know something is wrong. All my colleagues looked tired and Carl was fuming. The feeling of dread goes down my spine as I go to my desk. To my surprise, my pay is on the table. I must have forgotten to pick it up yesterday. Pay always comes on the first of every month. I put it in my purse, and get to work looking up on the news to see what is going on.

What I saw made a shiver go down my spine again. Three women, THREE, from my building were killed last night...all with puncture wounds... vampire bites. I looked up the hospital record...only to find more deaths. There were five victims from the hospital. Eight deaths, Criston killed eight people. I looked up those that were injured to see that Alex was hurt protecting his sister, it made my heart hurt.

Rushing to Mir's room with my computer, I call out, "Mir you need to see this..." I stop as I walk into her and Carl in a confrontation about some missing papers. "I will leave this here and let you two argue. Sorry Mir, I will get you that sugar free sodas you like later!" I said as I turned to run out.

"Mis. Lily, I don't think so." The stone cold tone of his voice made me freeze in place. I let out a slow breath, before turning. His light blue eyes looked me over with suspicion. "Please, I want to know why you were in such a hurry."

I gulp. "Our suspect," I emphasized as I went over to my computer and opened it up to the page I was on. "Criston Morgan escaped the hospital over Sunday, it didn't get into the news until now. He killed five people, and injured many more. This morning, three more deaths were reported. Women, all from my building. If I had not stayed the night over at Mir's house, he might have tried to kill me too..." I explain, but I couldn't finish.

A random guy that worked here ran passes, before backtracking. "Boss, there was another VP victim. He survived, we think he is a WW. We believe it is the same person that killed Mir's victim from two weeks ago." He said quickly.

Carl growls, but it sounds different from Mir's. Carl rushes out to collect more information as I turn to Mir. "He isn't a zombi, is he?" Mir shook her head and I sigh with relief.

"Germon Gargoyle," She corrects me and I nod. "We need to follow them, you know." I scratch the back of my neck but nod again as we rush behind them. I recognised the guy that was attacked instantly. Wolf... My entire being wants to run, but I didn't. Instead I stop for a secant and breath. I survey the room, and see that everyone is distracted with their own things.

I turn to Mir, "I will see about the guy that got hurt, you see what you can find." She looks me in the eye before going on to do her job. I walk over to the werewolf that recognizes me. His eyes got wide, and he starts to fidget with his damaged clothes. I ignore the fear in his tense shoulders as I get out the first aid kit. He had a torn tan shirt on, and had on light blue jeans. The light colors contrasted with his darker skin conception. There was nothing in the wounds that I could see, but I couldn't be too careful. "Do you have anything like bullets or an old arrow stuck in your body from a previous fight?" I ask, as I note the Navio tattoo.

"No?" He looks at me as if I shouldn't be real, in a way I guess I wasn't supposed to. He thought I was human after all. "How are you..."

"I can heal most of your wounds but it is going to hurt, so painful and quick or go to the hospital?" I question as I look him in the eye.

"Quick, please." He says, trying to be confident.

I smirk as I cut myself, making sure that the drop that came out made it into a bottle of water. Wolf's eyes go wide as he realizes what I am doing. "I am about to make your bad day worse, before it gets better." I remark. "This is for the pain you caused me by that stab wound of mine." I whisper under my breath as I give him the water bottle. When his eyes widened even more, I knew he heard me.

He drinks it up in a second, and I could tell he is in pain. I bandage up the wounds that I can tell are not healing quickly enough. "Why are you helping me instead of turning me in?" He hesitantly asks. It made me hurt too once again to see a strong person be brought down by the world.

"Alex explained a lot to me, even so...I don't report you, you don't report me." I smile slightly, "and you're not the one going around killing people. Kid is up to 8 deaths, and it could have easily been one more, if not for my inability to die. What's your name anyways, I can't just call you Wolf.

"Nah-e-thlai, Navajo for guide. Most just call me Nathen..." He looked away from me as he finished the water I gave him.

"I know, the tattoo on your neck gave it away. Werewolves originated from the Navajo nation, so it is only fitting." I finish patching him up. "You will be fully healed by the end of the week, though you will still be sore for a while. Don't complain about it, at least you don't have to live with it." I get up and head to where the others are standing.

Carl is the first to notice. "He is all patched for now. He should be ok, but I think we need to keep him here just in case." They all looked at me in surprise. "I wasn't top in my emergency medical job training class for nothing." I wasn't at the top of all my classes for nothing.

"It seems like you are no longer needed. If you would still like to transfer, you may. You can have the rest of the day off to decide." He informs me. I nod, looking over at Mir with a sorry look before leaving. I knew I am going to owe her a whole bunch of sugar free sodas.

I head to the hospital to see Alex and Dawn. When I get there some of the nurses look at me, worried as I flash my badge. "I have some friends that were here that I would like to check on. Alex and Dawn Raymond." The nurse nod before sighing in relief. I can tell that the hospital is a wreck. I thought about what I can do to help.

Not for the first time in my life, I am at a crossroads. This is the first time I have had trouble with such a choice, however. This is the first time that it is really a choice I have to make. Too take the easy way out and leave the city, or to stay and risk more damage being done. It should have been easy, leave and never look back, like I have done for so many years. To leave and finally shift all my time to finding out what happened to my parents, yet there were things holding me back...

I smile as I come upon Dawn's room. "Hey little protector of Hope," I say as I walk in. "How are you feeling, both of you?" I look at both of them over for any injuries.

"Dawn here is using the fact that I am injured, to keep me here." Alex says from beside Dawn's bed. I smirked and high-fived Dawn. "Hey, don't encourage her." He yelled playfully. "So how is everything going?"

"Ya! Did you find the guy you were after the other day? Did you find the girl you were looking for?" Dawn question. She had so much more energy, but I could tell she is still exhausted. That concerns me greatly, and I can tell Alex is too.

"Everything is going good, sort of. We did find the guy we were looking for, but he got away. As for the girl...I don't think they even know who they are looking for. This girl was injured, but she is ok now." I say mischievously. She looks confused, then her eyes go wide with understanding. I put my finger over my mouth to signal that it is a secret. She happily pretends to zip her lips together, causing me to laugh. She quickly joins in, until she starts coughing up blood.

Me and Alex rushed over to her side. "Can you get some water?" He asked, and I nodded. I hurriedly left to find the water fountain. I hurriedly add a drop of my blood before heading back. Dawn drank the water down without a second thought, but not fast enough. Alex has smelled my blood once before. He looks up at me with concern, but relaxes slightly as his sister falls into a peaceful sleep with little to no pain. We sat in silence for a while before he asks, "Why?"

It is an easy question to ask, but not one to answer. "Because I knew I could help, I knew it wouldn't cause her too much pain" I said, feeling Dawn's pain as if it was my own. I had been in her shoes, sort of, when I was younger. Always in pain, yet I never visited the hospital. When I saw her in pain, my instinct just...kicked in. I lean back and sigh. "I have been running on instinct for the past two weeks, and there on full alert. My healing magic or whatever it is telling me something isn't right and it is taking everything in me not to go after her stupid doctor and make him explain."

Alex looks at her with shock and concern. "This isn't the first time I have given her my blood. The first time I didn't dilute it...all her wounds should have healed."

"But...It is a birth defect. They said it was a birth defect, you can't heal a birth defect, can you?" He asks, unsure what to think.

"I wish. No, I can't heal birth defects. If I could, then I would have gotten rid of these things a long time ago." I said, twirling my glasses in my hand. "That's the problem though. If I couldn't heal birth defects, then how in god's broken world did she wake up!?" It is a rhetorical question, but it still needs an answer.

"The birth defect, if there really is one, wasn't the cause of her sickness." Alex bears his fangs in anger, but keeps his tone down. He didn't want to wake his little sister from her peaceful slumber.

"Ding bing bing." I snap with equal hatred. "Also you don't have to keep your voice down. She won't wake up till she is completely healed, or until my blood is out of her system. She isn't a vampire, is she?" Alex shook her head. "Good, because I have no idea how my blood would react to her. Too much of my blood can cause...problems. Young kids have less problems with the pain, but can end up healing faster as a side effect. The older you are, the worse the pain. Her...she is in far less pain than she should have been, then again I am not complaining."

He nods and takes my word for it, then again he has no choice really. "If I go after her doctor, would you report me?" He asks seriously, and I could tell that this is weighing heavily on his mind.

"Only if you don't let me put my painful healing ability to good use." I answer honestly. We never got the chance, as just then, Dawn started to wake up. "Morning, how are you feeling?" I ask cautiously, helping her sit up.

Her smile is so bright, that it melts both our anger away, for now at least. The doctor is still going to get what is coming to him. "Really good, how long have I been asleep?"

"Only an hour or so. We are both glad you're ok." Alix gives her a small side hug.

"I hope I am not interrupting," Mir come into the room and sits in the last guest chair. "No, I am not here to take Lily away from you again, though I might steal both of them after you go to bed for the night. Your brother and my sister in everything but blood here are planning something, and I am going to make sure they don't get themselves caught." She smirks.

"Oh wow, I can feel the blood draining from my face in terror. I would die if I could," I joke.

I've always been moving, running, or something. We moved from house to house, town to town. No one ever told me why we moved. I was probably too young back then to understand, anyway. There were a few things they did tell me, such as the fact they had adopted me. They didn't know who my parents were but would help me find them if I wanted to. I had to wait till I was 18, but that didn't matter. They, my family, died when I was nine.

It was then I realized that there wasn't a decision, because there was no way I was going to leave my only chance at a family now, the consequences could go to hell.
