Chapter 7 - The Beginning of the Beginning.

Kody was surprised when his name rang out just a few minutes into the test. He had expected to be one of the last people to take the test but it seemed they had done some shuffling.

When he entered the lab, Logan's gaze fell upon him but it left in a moment. It seemed Logan had lost interest in him at first sight.

Kody was a bit confused with the tone with which he was told to sit on the chair in the middle of the lab.

Does this guy have a beef with me or something?

Kody cleared his mind. He didn't do anything to incite negative emotions, so he assumed it was because he looked average.

Sitting on the chair, he was handed a blue pill.

"Swallow this," Logan said with disinterest.

Looking at the pill, Kody had a vague idea of what it was. His research had once delved into alchemy, giving him a slight knowledge of pills. He doubted this was a product of alchemy: even the most inferior alchemy products were too expensive for the likes of him to even fathom.

It's probably a cheap copy

However, Kody still felt a deep desire to swallow it.

The moment his hand touched the pill, shivers went through his spine. It was as if there was something inside him being stirred.

He felt a deep, almost primal hunger well in his mind. It was the same feeling as a starving man seeing a freshly cooked piece of steak.

Kody didn't know who the starving man was, but he was definitely inside him. And this pill had disturbed his slumber.

He threw the pill into his mouth and in an instant his countenance changed. For a moment Kody changed, he felt an unstoppable power flowing through him. Logan jerked back and looked at Kody in surprise, it was as if he was an entirely different person. Completely different from the unassuming boy that had first entered his lab.

Kody's eyes turned foggy and purple as a fragmented memory flashed in his mind.

The starving man was him and he had been trapped.

"Trapped…" he whispered.

He was pulled into a distant memory and saw the image of a lady, obscured by fog. She was impaled by a sword and Kody tried running to her, but the world shattered before he got close.

Who was that, Was she the one who trapped me?

The next instant Kody was back in the lab and the starving man was nowhere to be found. But Kody knew he was still inside, patiently waiting. He could still feel the remnant of the starving man's bloodlust for… power.

What caught Kody's attention next was the translucent floating blue screen in front of it.

It seemed to be some countdown of sorts

Kody's eyes were glued to the interface, the number was steadily increasing, and Kody gulped, fully aware that something was going to happen when it reached 100%

Stretching out his hand, he tried to touch the screen, but his hand went right through it and touched Logan, who was standing in front of him. He caressed the rough face before realizing what he was touching and quickly withdrew his hands.

"Sorry," he muttered.

But Logan didn't look like he was angry, instead, his eyes shone as he stared intensely at Kody. Kody now looked much more attractive to him now.

He asked, "What was that, just now?"

He must have noticed what happened.

But the thing was, Kody himself didn't know what just happened. So, he decided to act like nothing had happened.

"What was what?" He retorted.

Logan's brows furrowed. "Just now, it was as if you changed into a completely different person."

Kody continued acting like he had no idea what he was talking about. "I don't think anything like that happened."

Logan's frown deepened, he could swear that this average-seeming boy, had changed into something that sent shivers down his spine a moment ago.

I couldn't have been hallucinating. Logan thought.

So it was either that the boy in front of him was lying or he truly had no idea of what happened.

After a few more questions, he finally realized that their conversation was not going anywhere. He decided to give Kody the benefit of doubt and continued with the test. But, he already knew the boy in front of him was anything but normal. This made him interested in seeing what element he might have.

"Place your hand in this," Logan said, holding a bowl of heaven's dew out to Kody.

Kody, who was observing the blue screen before him intently, didn't hear Logan for a second. He racked his brain searching for anything that might explain this floating interface but couldn't find anything.

It looked like something from the previous age, but Kody couldn't be sure. What he had knowledge about, however, was bloodlines, but his knowledge was more myth than science.

It was a myth that had existed during medieval times, It talked about nine bloodlines and how the people with those bloodlines went on to become gods.

It, like most other myths, had been dismissed as superstitious and a work of fiction.

That was until the world changed and the seven pillars of humanity appeared. During Kody's early age, he had developed an interest in this myth that had all of a sudden, reemerged from the soil.

He found out that seven of the Bloodlines held similarities to the seven pillars. Perhaps he had found more, but the memory was unusually foggy and his head started to ache the more he dug into his memories.

Kody didn't know what was going on so he could only make assumptions while hoping for the best.

The loading bar in front of him now read 59%. Whatever was going to happen, was going to happen soon.

His breath became ragged as he felt his life taking a completely different trajectory all of a sudden. Perhaps in another life, but right now any thoughts of returning to his normal life were a pipe dream. He wished to return to his normal life, but a part of him didn't. Maybe it was the starving man.

He felt a hand touch him.

"You still there kid," Logan asked, he seemed to have called him a few times, but Kody had been in his headspace.

"Yeah, Yeah..." Kody replied, still flustered.

Logan looked at him with suspicion but didn't drag the situation any further.

"Place your hand in this."

Kody looked at the transparent liquid before doing as he was told. With a deep breath, he closed his eyes and brought his hand forward, gently placing it in the bowl.

He felt energy leaving his body and when Kody opened his eyes, the formerly transparent liquid was now a thick black fog that slowly spread out of the bowl. Logan's feet were trembling as he staggered backwards.

"How…how is this possible."
