"A birthday present?"
Every day was so full of happiness that Cain hardly paid any attention to what a birthday even meant. But when he remembered that it was the day he had first met Saphen, he couldn't deny that it held a special meaning.
"As for a birthday present... having you is enough for me, Saphen," Cain said as he wrapped his arms around him.
By now, Cain had grown to the same height as Saphen, and his frame was even broader. Leaning against him like this inevitably made Saphen take a step back.
Saphen's face rested against Cain's shoulder. Tilting his head, all he could see was Cain's ear. He couldn't help patting Cain gently on the back as he chuckled.
"You say that every single year. Do you really like me that much?"
Cain nodded repeatedly.
"I really do."
As long as he could stay by Saphen's side for the rest of his life, he needed nothing else.
