The air seemed to freeze for a moment. Taking advantage of the pause, Saphen pulled out the chocolate Layla had prepared and held it out to Thora.
"She said today is Valentine's Day, a day to give gifts to the person you like. She asked me to give this to you."
Thora looked at the box of chocolate in Saphen's hand. He didn't take it, only lifting his gaze to Saphen. A little confused by the look, Saphen instinctively continued, "You should at least consider her. Layla is very pretty, and she's quite gentle too…"
Thora raised an eyebrow. "You like her?"
Saphen hurriedly shook his head.
"Then why do you know her so well?" Thora pressed on.
Saphen was a bit speechless. "Does that count as knowing her well? Those are things anyone can see."
Or maybe only Thora couldn't see them. Saphen couldn't help thinking that to himself.
As he thought that, he lifted the chocolate a little higher. "Just take it. It's her effort."
Thora turned his head away directly. "Give it to Cain."
