Chapter 103 - Chapter 103: The Gaze of the Sharingan

Chapter 103: The Gaze of the Sharingan

Uchiha Itachi's pupils transformed.

The crimson sclera, the black tomoe scattering and settling into the distinct shape of three comma-like magatama, slowly rotating around the pupil.

The Sharingan.

This Kekkei Genkai, which had once carved its name across the shinobi world, had now reappeared over Konoha.

Though his brother, Uchiha Sasuke, also possessed the Sharingan, he had only awakened two tomoe. His power was still nascent, unable to truly unleash the dreaded potential of the Uchiha's famed eyes.

For most of the clan, awakening the Three-Tomoe Sharingan was the pinnacle. Even so, its power was enough to instill fear in countless shinobi.

But above the Three-Tomoe existed the true apex of the Uchiha's ocular power—the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Every Uchiha who awakened the Mangekyo was a genius among geniuses. Each Mangekyo's pattern was unique, and so too were its abilities.

Typically, each eye of the pair held a different power. Uchiha Itachi's left eye possessed Tsukuyomi, hailed as the most powerful genjutsu. His right eye held Amaterasu, the black flames known as the ultimate physical attack.

It was through the dread might of these two supreme ocular techniques that Uchiha Itachi had become a feared S-rank rogue ninja, the man who had single-handedly ended the glorious Uchiha clan and erased their name from the pages of history.

Now, those same eyes were turned upon Konoha once more.

Itachi's gaze was cold and merciless, his angular face bearing the traces of a burden no young man should ever have to carry. When he had defected, he was but a teenager. Now, years later, he had not only matured but his power had grown by leaps and bounds.

"Why do I feel a familiar aura from him?" Uchiha Itachi murmured, his brow furrowing slightly in confusion.

As a once-in-a-century genius of Konoha, Uchiha Itachi's mastery of genjutsu was absolute. After joining Akatsuki, even Orochimaru had coveted the power of his Sharingan.

When Orochimaru had finally made his move, he was effortlessly defeated by a single glance from Itachi. The contempt in that look had been absolute, as if the legendary Sannin had never been worth a moment's consideration.

Since that day, Orochimaru had left Akatsuki to establish his own base, all because of the power of those sinful eyes.

What Uchiha Itachi did not know was that the familiarity he sensed from Aizen stemmed from one source: the power of Kyoka Suigetsu.

Aside from the legendary Kotoamatsukami, Itachi's Tsukuyomi stood at the very peak of illusionary techniques, considered nearly unbreakable. Once trapped in Tsukuyomi, the victim was cast into a unique spiritual space where the caster controlled all factors—time, location, geography—inflicting devastating psychological damage.

Under normal circumstances, Tsukuyomi was inescapable. This was why Uchiha Itachi was hailed as the pinnacle of genjutsu masters.

However, Aizen's Kyoka Suigetsu was its equal in absolute control.

Once an opponent witnessed its release, they fell under its Complete Hypnosis, their five senses, their perception of spiritual pressure—everything was under Aizen's dominion.

He could completely control what his target saw, felt, tasted, and smelled, making them believe wholeheartedly in a reality of his choosing.

This manipulation of the senses was so seamless it was imperceptible.

Before Kyoka Suigetsu, what one perceived was not the truth. The cruel reality was often hidden in the depths, obscured by a perfect lie.

Uchiha Itachi's Sharingan seemed to pierce through the clouds and distance, its gaze locked intently upon Aizen.

A showdown between the pinnacle illusionists of two different worlds was imminent.

Back within the village, the fierce battle raged on.

Gamabunta and Shukaku continued their earth-shattering duel, their ninjutsu colliding and erupting into storms of violent energy. Under the onslaught of these titanic forces, nearly half of Konoha's buildings had been reduced to rubble.

In just half a day, the prosperous village had become a relic of the past, a withered flower.

Aizen stood calmly in the sky, descending step by step as if walking down an invisible staircase. "It makes no difference to the naked eye whether the dust motes are one or two," he stated coldly.

He came to stand before the summoned toad, Gamaken, and lowered Kyoka Suigetsu slightly. Then, he began to chant, his voice resonating with power.

"The unworthy vessel, shrouded in darkness."

"Arrogant mortal, drunk on your fleeting power."

"Deny the rising tide, wallow in your paralysis, and let this moment be your eternal slumber."

"The iron maiden who crawls, the marionette of self-inflicted torment."

"Combine, reject, and extend thy reach to the earth itself."

"Know thine own utter powerlessness!"

"Hadō Number Ninety: Kurohitsugi!"

As the final syllable of Aizen's chant fell, the world seemed to grow dim.

An inexplicable dread gripped every heart. The source of this fear emanated from the space around the great toad, Gamaken. A terrifying energy was coalescing.

For a moment, it felt as if everyone's vision was swallowed by an endless darkness. When sight returned, they witnessed a scene that stole the breath from their lungs.

A massive, rectangular black cube had materialized from nothingness, instantly encasing the colossal form of Gamaken. From a distance, it looked like a gigantic black coffin, radiating an aura of absolute death.

Within the Black Coffin, there was only silence.

Even the normally unflappable Gamaken felt a spike of panic. But before he could even react, countless blades of pure shadow shot forth from the interior walls of the coffin, impaling his massive body from every conceivable angle—a death by a thousand spiritual swords.

THRUM!

The entire process occurred in the space between a single heartbeat. The toad had no time to resist.

As the shadow blades retracted, the Black Coffin slowly dissolved into motes of fading darkness, revealing the scene within.

"This... this is impossible!"

Even the Legendary Sannin, Jiraiya, stared in utter disbelief.

Within his line of sight, Gamaken's powerful aura was utterly extinguished. He lay on the ground, his body a tapestry of horrific, piercing wounds. Blood, thick and dark, gushed from the injuries like a spring, a shocking and brutal sight.

The mighty toad, summoned for his unparalleled defense, had been critically wounded in a single move.
