Chapter 99: The Rampage of Shukaku
"After all, the time is almost right. Everyone, let us enjoy this feast together."
Aizen's gaze was a command, slicing across the horizon to settle upon the convulsing form of Gaara. There, a maelstrom of yellow, sandy chakra erupted, a violent storm of energy that twisted into the sky.
Suddenly, a terrifying, ancient aura washed over the entire village, a pressure that felt like the weight of a desert, suffocating and vast.
The One-Tail, Shukaku!
Ranked first among the nine great Tailed Beasts, Shukaku was a being of immense power. The Tailed Beasts were originally fragments of the chakra of the primordial Ten-Tails, dispersed by the Sage of Six Paths. Each one was a force of nature, a living calamity. The great nations, recognizing their destructive potential, had sealed them within human vessels—the Jinchuriki. Gaara was one such vessel.
"ROOOOAR!"
A bestial roar, filled with millennia of pent-up malice, shook the very foundations of Konoha. An astonishing pressure erupted from the epicenter, rolling outwards like a shockwave and pushing back the very air.
Sand and stone flew, whipped into a frenzy by an instantly-formed sandstorm. At the heart of the storm, every building within a hundred-meter radius was pulverized, the debris sucked into the vortex and sharpened into a rain of deadly wooden shrapnel.
"Ahhh!"
Screams echoed as the wooden hail fell. Helpless villagers and shinobi alike were impaled, their bodies torn apart by the relentless barrage. Konoha, already bleeding from the invasion, was now being flayed alive.
Every eye was drawn to the center of the village, where the malevolent presence was reaching its terrifying crescendo. Hearts hammered against ribs, fear and panic a tangible force in the air.
And then, it peaked.
"HAHAHAHAHA!"
An arrogant, unhinged laugh, more beast than human, reverberated through the world, the chakra within the sound itself a physical assault.
"I'M FINALLY OUT!"
As the voice boomed, the chaotic sandstorm stilled, every grain of sand freezing in mid-air as if held by an invisible hand, forming undulating ribbons of suspended desert.
And within that suspended desert, a pair of cold, black-rimmed eyes opened.
They held no emotion. Only pure, undiluted killing intent.
Gulp.
Weaker shinobi swallowed hard, a primal fear seizing them the moment they met that gaze. It was a terror that made their knees tremble and their souls feel brittle.
A single, segmented tail, like a string of massive prayer beads, swayed behind it. The true form of Shukaku was finally revealed.
It was a massive, tanuki-like creature the size of a small mountain, its body covered in violet curse markings that pulsed with a sinister light. It stood as a monument to sand and slaughter.
"HAHAHA! This freedom feels so good! I want to kill everyone I see!" Shukaku's voice was a grating screech, the killing intent within it so thick it chilled the blood.
As one of the Tailed Beasts, Shukaku was inherently violent and warlike. Murder was not just a pastime; it was its nature. It was for this very reason the Fourth Kazekage had sealed it within his own son, to wield that destructive power as a weapon.
"If I remember correctly, that's the Sand's One-Tail, Shukaku," Gamabunta growled, his usual bravado replaced by a grim seriousness. The appearance of another being of his scale changed everything.
"You broke Gaara's seal?! Just as you made contact with Naruto, you tampered with this one as well, didn't you?" Jiraiya's face was dark, the pieces of Aizen's plan clicking into place with horrifying clarity.
"Indeed. You live up to your reputation, Legendary Sannin," Aizen replied with a slight, mocking smile, not denying the accusation. He gestured gracefully with Kyōka Suigetsu. "And this... this is the feast I have prepared for you all."
He stood there, poised in the air, a picture of calm elegance. Yet, no Konoha shinobi dared to move against him, all cowed by the invisible, oppressive aura he radiated. If it were just Aizen, Jiraiya might have held some hope. But the release of a Tailed Beast signaled a catastrophe of a different magnitude.
"I must thank the one who broke my seal! It lets me immediately see someone I want to crush!" Shukaku roared, its massive head swiveling until its frenzied gaze locked onto Gamabunta. A fiery, competitive bloodlust ignited within its yellow eyes. To a monster, another great beast was the ultimate challenge.
Meeting Shukaku's provocative stare, Gamabunta's own fighting spirit flared. He wouldn't back down.
He drew the massive tantō from his waist, the steel ringing in the tense air. "You rabid raccoon! Let's settle this!" he bellowed.
Shukaku answered with a wild, excited laugh. It lifted a gigantic paw, formed entirely of compacted sand, and slammed it against its own stomach.
WHOOSH!
A massive orb of concentrated chakra shot from its mouth, transforming mid-air into a spiraling cannonball of razor-sharp wind.
"Wind Style: Air Burst!"
Gamabunta was not to be outdone. He pushed off with his powerful legs, launching his colossal weight into the air. His hands formed a single seal.
"Water Style: Water Gun Jutsu!"
A sphere of water, as large as a building, erupted from his mouth, flying to meet the oncoming wind bullet.
BOOOOOOM!
The two attacks collided in a cataclysmic explosion. The forces of Water and Wind clashed with earth-shattering force, sending a devastating shockwave across the village and blotting out the sky with a mist of sand and water. The feast of destruction had truly begun.
