Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 8: Back on Earth.

Xavier groaned. His heart still felt like it was burning. So much knowledge had been dumped into him at once.

"HERO SYSTEM... DIVINE BODY".....this was simply crazy.

With a teasing smile Diana said,

"I will be sending one of my avatars from time to time to monitor your progress ". So don't be surprised when a cute girl shows up on your doorstep.

 He nearly choked. What?!!

"It's for your protection", saying that she giggled. I can't afford for you to get killed before accomplishing your mission. Consider it an assessment of sorts.

Diana clapped her hands. "One more thing".

He looked up and suddenly had a bad feeling.

"Keep your identity a secret for now", at least until you're strong enough to protect yourself.

If the world learns of your existence too early, everything will fall apart before it begins.

 "Why", this time I asked.

It didn't make any sense to me.

The four leaders and their heroes already know of my existence.

She looked at me as if pondering whether to reveal some information...."lets just say that the devourer doesn't know about your existence", yet.

When the demon hero went berserk centuries ago, not all the races stood against him. He had a few followers or you could say spies in every race. How else could he have managed to wipe out the earlier generation of heroes.

They called themselves "The dark Souls". A rough gathering of different races.

Seems like a few of them escaped my memory swiping and are on earth.

She continued, "not everyone wishes for a better world you see". That's why you must never disclose your identity as a hero. Some might even seek to control you. Instead of a hero, you might even become a puppet for some other beings mischief.

Xavier's eyes nearly popped out of his sockets.

He understood the reasoning though, he was a trump card of sorts. People were evil no matter which planet they came from.

"Look at him for example", his life had ended at the hands of a fellow human. He sighed deeply.

It's time for you to go back, Diana continued.

Your body should have been found in the real world by now. Even though the time flow here is slower, several hours must have passed on earth.

So don't be shocked when you wake up somewhere unfamiliar.

 Xavier blinked. "Wake up where-----

Before he could complete his sentence... The world around him suddenly darkened and his vision blurred.

Moments later, his eyes snapped open.

He wasn't lying in the strange palace anymore.

 Instead-

He was in a soft bed.

A white ceiling. White curtains. The faint smell of antiseptics and healing herbs.

 "A..... hospital? He whispered.

He suddenly tried sitting up but winced in pain. His body felt stiff, like he hadn't moved in ages.

Before he could gather his thoughts together, he heard footsteps approaching....

Turning his head he saw a young woman standing beside him.

Wearing a modern nurse uniform- except this one was embroidered with glowing runes.

 A water mage.

 "Finally awake", she said softly.

What happened...? I pretended to ask.

"You've been unconscious since last night". A good stranger found you passed out in an old alley road and brought you here.

You were soaked in blood when you arrived, even though there was no signs of injuries on your body.

 "Strange", she muttered.

I kept a blank look on my face all this while to feign ignorance.

"Well, since you're awake, you will probably be discharged soon". Turning around to leave, she said, "ooh! Your bills were taken care of.

You can thank the good stranger for that.

After she left, I scanned the room looking for any signs of movements. The events of the past hour kept flashing before me.

 My new life.

 My Mission.

"remembering the parting words of the goddess".

Earth only has a hundred years left, after then , it's all up to you.

In a few minutes, I was discharged. Stepping out of the hospital my heart suddenly skipped.

I almost forgot what day it was.

I quickly hurried back to the orphanage to change my bloody shirt.

I couldn't let people see me like this on my way to school.

After all....

Today was the day of the AWAKENING CEREMONY.
