Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Say Goodbye to Your Past Self

Lynn held up a finger. Although this item wasn't strictly limited to one use per person, cheap things are rarely cherished.

Besides, Lynn wasn't Doraemon, and they weren't Nobita. Lynn wasn't stingy with his gadgets, but he wouldn't use them without restraint either; after all, he couldn't choose which items he received.

"So, who wants to change something about themselves?"

His gaze fell upon Neville. At that moment, Neville was looking at Lynn with longing.

"Neville, what is it that you want to change?"

"I want to fix how I'm always losing things and forgetting stuff. I'll definitely work hard at it!" Neville's face was flushed red. When he spoke of this, his eyes were very firm. "I don't want to cause trouble for Gran or everyone else anymore. If it weren't for Dean and Seamus, and you, Lynn, I definitely would have made a joke of myself many times. Thank you so much for your help before."

Sincere gratitude is always pleasant. Seamus and Dean chuckled a bit sheepishly; they didn't feel they had done much, just reminded Neville occasionally.

"I believe in you, Neville."

Lynn nodded. Based on things he knew from his "past life," Neville's forgetfulness wasn't congenital. It seemed it was because Neville, hidden by his parents, had witnessed the entire process of them being tortured into insanity. Consequently, he was tormented by nightmares for years afterward. Harry had dreamed of the green light of the Killing Curse and his mother's screams, while Neville dreamed of the screams of ultimate pain caused by the Cruciatus Curse—longer and clearer than Harry's nightmares.

His grandmother had used a Memory Charm on him, making him forget that part so he could live a normal life. However, in order to wipe away that terrible memory, this powerful Memory Charm had affected Neville, leading to his forgetfulness.

As for whether secret gadgets could cure the aftereffects of magic, Lynn was fully confident. Future technology didn't care about magical logic; it was unscientific science. After all, magic was fully compatible with future technology.

For instance, the invincible [Magic Dictionary]: as long as you wrote the magical effect and corresponding usage method on a blank page, you could directly create magic without considering mana or casting proficiency. Even a non-owner could use the magic written on it.

Lynn wrote on the blank space of the Graduate Certificate: Kenbou (Forgetfulness).

Then he handed the Graduate Certificate to Neville, who stood beside him.

Neville's chubby face was taut. He took the certificate with both hands. His gaze stagnated for a moment; he froze in place for two or three seconds before returning to normal.

But in the next moment, Neville's eyes turned red. Uncontrollable tears surged out, and he became a tearful mess in an instant.

This unusual display made the others nervous. They asked, "What's wrong, Neville? Why are you crying?"

"I... I..." Neville choked up and shook his head, scrubbing hard at his tears with the back of his hand. It took a long time before he could speak a complete sentence.

About two or three minutes later, Neville, his eyes red and bloodshot, finally stopped crying. His chubby face was tense, and his teeth were clenched tight.

"I just... remembered some things... things I never will, and never can, forget in this lifetime."

Neville, who had suddenly become somewhat unfamiliar, left his roommates confused. They felt as if Neville had changed into a different person in that moment. His gaze was as steadfast as a warrior's, with fire burning in the depths of his eyes.

"Thank you, Lynn. Thank you, really, truly!"

Neville took a deep breath and thanked Lynn solemnly. "I will definitely cherish this opportunity. I definitely won't be like before, forgetting the things I must remember. This time, I absolutely won't forget!"

Guessing what had happened, Lynn nodded, smiling as he patted Neville's shoulder. "I believe in you. You can definitely do it."

Perhaps due to Neville's influence, Seamus, Dean, and Ron were all a bit nervous now.

"So, next... Seamus?"

"O-Okay."

Seamus nodded, standing straight in front of Lynn as if he were about to face judgment.

"So, what do you want to graduate from?"

"Can it make me... not blow things up randomly when I cast spells?"

Seamus scratched his head sheepishly. The title of Gryffindor's Demolition Expert had already spread among the first-years. Whether due to a special constitution or some other reason, Seamus always caused explosions when casting spells, leaving himself covered in soot.

"Do you know why the explosions happen?"

"I asked Professor Flitwick." Seamus chuckled. "He said I'm too careless and haven't learned how to control my magic properly. It's too active, so it's prone to temper tantrums. He told me to be more serious and careful when doing things."

"So, what you want to graduate from is 'Carelessness,' right?"

"Yes, I think so. If I were a bit more careful, it shouldn't happen."

Seamus nodded. He trusted Professor Flitwick's judgment, and he was actually aware of the issue himself.

"Then let's go with—————" Lynn wrote on the blank space of the Graduate Certificate: Keisotsu (Carelessness).

After taking the certificate, Seamus's reaction wasn't as dramatic as Neville's. He just paused slightly, then his eyes lit up.

"I feel like... the feeling now is like..." Seamus spoke in disbelief, "I suddenly remembered that when I was doing homework earlier, I thought of some things but didn't write them down. I'm going to go add them now."

"So, Dean, what about you?"

"I want to be more focused," Dean said thoughtfully. "Except when I'm drawing, I can't focus on anything else."

Dean was quite talented at drawing. He was a West Ham United fan and had even drawn a portrait album of his favorite Premier League stars based on posters.

"Sometimes when I'm doing homework or reading, I get distracted and start doing other things. In the end, I have to struggle to remember how I was supposed to write or do it. It gives me... a headache. When I wrote my Potions essay before, I stopped and started three or five times. What should have taken half an hour took me most of the day."

"Then let's write 'Easily Distracted.' I hope you can keep it up afterward."

"Yeah!"

Dean nodded crisply, then took the certificate Lynn handed him and put it away carefully.

"So, Ron, what do you want to graduate from?"

"Hmm..." Ron fell into deep thought.

"Mmm..." Ron was trying to summarize.

"Can I write a few more?" Ron asked somewhat sheepishly. "I feel like I'm pretty careless, I can't focus, and I'm always playing and forgetting things."

"While realizing your own shortcomings is a good thing..." The corner of Lynn's mouth twitched slightly. "But what do you think changing would help you the most?"

Ron fell into thought again, longer than the last time.

After a moment, Ron looked up at Lynn. "Why don't you give me an idea?"

"But you're the one who needs to change. An idea from someone else might not be what you want."

Lynn didn't want to manage after-sales service. Helping people was fine, but being a nanny was not. So even if he could point it out to Ron, he wouldn't give the answer.

"Maybe I should work harder?" Ron tentatively asked after a moment. "I feel like the stuff in the books isn't hard at all. I can learn it if I just study casually. I just didn't study before. If I worked a bit harder, I could definitely master it completely. Yes, completely master it!"

Suddenly gaining confidence, Ron nodded affirmatively. "I want to be more hardworking."

"Then I'll write 'Lack of Diligence.' But you still have to remember, if you want to become a hardworking and studious person, you have to persist in doing so yourself."

"I completely understand!"

Ron promised, full of confidence.

"Here you go."

After receiving the certificate, Ron, shaking off his daze, was suddenly filled with drive. He immediately pulled out One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, grabbed a quill and parchment, and began to battle his Potions essay, his fighting spirit high.

"By the way, Lynn, did you use it to get rid of a bad habit too?"

Seamus and the other two asked Lynn curiously while Ron struggled with his homework.

"Me? No." Lynn waved his hand. "My flaw used to be lust. But later, when I was at Oxford University, I was taken advantage of by too many pretty older sisters. After experiencing so much, I just stopped feeling it. They all wanted to suffocate me in their bosoms; it was really too much. They even made me apply sunscreen to them at pool parties and stuff. It could work a man to death."

"Although we can't imagine that scene..."

"But we're so jealous!"

"Exactly!"
