Chapter 40 - Chapter 17 The Puppet Masters

In a grand castle on a different realm were 5 dark figures sitting at a table, Elders. They were Discussing their game of human souls because they hated how the Living God favored them. They sat down and argued how to achieve their plan. "We couldn't take their bodies or snatch them without intervention, " said one. The Elder was holding a staff on his right hand while pounding the table with his fist. A female Elder with horns and armor said, "there's technology we used to transport their minds and souls to trap them. We can use something similar to remove them." She gave a wicked laugh. One with a majestic crown asked, "How will they go unnoticed?" Silence was throughout the room for a moment. Then one Elder with a viking helmet and large body said, "It won't go unnoticed for very long. We had our minions to temporarily cover for them but those with discernment will see through it and band together to wage spiritual war. There are very few that will recognize the change instantly and notice the imposters."

"And their bodies?" asked the crowned Elder after. The female spoke again "That can be arranged. They still believe in aliens, it's the story we used when we took some for experiments. We can tell our devoted worshipers to call it an alien abduction or attack. Better yet, we can have them collect the bodies and disguise it as if it's their government helping to find a solution to a problem." Then the one with long white hair spoke, "We use the so-called abominations that refuse to side with us because of fear. We have them scattered in different realms, some managed to hide, but the prisoners can be used for our entertainment. Getting tortured by the race they didn't want to wage war with because of fear of divine judgement." The female laughed maniacally after hearing that.

The one with the staff said, "The lingering magic by thoughts was collected and we brought to life the tales written by man. To add more diversity to our fun. They were our prototype," he chuckled after. The crowned Elder snorted and said, "the only souls that I want to trap are the human ones. It was worth the excess use of power and energy to make this game come to life." The female gasped in excitement and said, "Let the games continue!." On the table laid a large map of the realm they were using. They tapped their cups with each other and drank. Then the one with the staff said, "someone, released Merlin from his imprisonment. I was going to save him for another round after this lot." The female Elder said,

"Don't look at me, I told you not to create him. It was a bad idea already to have one be able to wield so much power and not be controlled. You brought this on yourself."

"Well if it wasn't you who let him out, then who was it! We had agreed to the rules already for our game," the Elder responded while hitting the ground with his staff. "Use your fucken pawns and stop complaining your bishop got lost," said the female, annoyed and then she got close to him, "or are you scared to lose." Before they got up to leave, the crowned one said, "the three rules you all came up with, did one of you break them? They were; first, the humans cannot die in the game unless their physical body perishes. Second, you cannot intercede and carry off your own wishes. Three, once you establish your rules you must follow them or there will be a penalty. The rest looked outraged, "why must you set boundaries to the game we want to create?" asked the female as she scowled. The crowned Elder said, "I am the game master. Which one of you broke one of those rules?" Silence, none of them spoke. "Idiots, by breaking your own rules you broke part of the barrier that prevented travel between that realm back to the human realm. Do you think I'm oblivious? There's been divine intervention in our game. Figure it out!" The rest left grunting while the one with the crown was left behind.

The female Elder with the horns snuck in a different room and pulled a crystal out and said to it angrily. "You better get your shit together, siren – or that pearl necklace I gave you to enhance your everything is going back in my vault." The voice came from the crystal, "No! Please – tell me what I did wrong, I'll fix it." The elder responded, "you didn't tell Merlin was out, find out where he is and who is hiding him. I want that pawn! That half demon is mine." The voice in the crystal responded, "I'll get on it, my human is a stupid girl." The elder responded, "you better, I released your continuous because I saw potential in that little snot brat that knows how to go unnoticed to get information. She is a sneaky little rat." Then the female elder continued to leave. In the corner there was the Elder who possessed the staff hiding and listening in on the conversation. He snickered and said, "the stupid one is you. I let him out just to get you to reveal one of your pawns. He walked away and whistled. In a different part of the castle the elder with the long white hair, was talking using his mind. He said, "find out how Merlin escaped and where the rest of those Lycans are or your deal is off." Outside of the white haired elder room was the one wearing a viking. He was leaning against the wall with his back, but his hearing was pristine.. He listened and he smiled, "I guess my giants know more than him."

Back in the room the Elder with the majestic crown had multiple portals open watching them. He shook his head, "they forget that I can see what I want in my castle."

Callan asked his gargoyle, "how are the Lycans able to hide? Aren't there spies on the outskirts of these lands?" The gargoyle replied, "we have spies, but we can't be everywhere. Some have been silenced." Callan asked, "How are they silenced? Isn't this place meant to revive everything that gets killed?" The gargoyle asked Callan, "Do you see anything above my head?" Callan was confused and he looked above it, there was nothing there. He answered, "What are you expecting me to look at? I don't see a thing." The gargoyle then said, "That is proof that you haven't acknowledged your spiritual family, only those who have a massed great spiritual energy can see the crystals that form above our heads. Mystical creatures with great power can see them as well, but they need to be looking for it with a purpose to take possession of it or end us." Callan was now intrigued and kept asking, " what happens if someone takes possession of?" The gargoyle stared at him for a moment in silence and said. "You ask too many questions." Callan was irritated by the statement, but especially because it's supposed to be his gargoyle. He felt he should be able to use it as he pleased.

The one with the staff had left the castle and took out a crystal to speak, 'Merlin, I know you can hear me. I have been tracking you." He laughed and put away his crystal. Unknown to him was the female elder a few feet away with a horn in her ear to listen to him. She smiled, "I knew it, you don't have control over him even though it was your own blood that gave him life. I don't mind giving out my weakest pawns if it means I get to snatch your bishop." She put away her horn used to listen and placed it on the side of her hip. She then skipped away happily.
