Maybe that strategy succeeded in the battle on the other side. That made sense for the strategy to succeed because the other side didn't have someone like him to counter the Kobold Scouts.
Once he decapitated the Kobold Scouts, he got to his usual position. He was eyeing the army from the right side of the village. Everything went according to plan.
