Irvin couldn't exactly slam the door in our faces, so he plastered on this fake smile and waved Morris and me inside.
Pauline and Darius had crossed paths with Morris before.
Seeing him show up with me clearly caught them off guard—both of them went rigid, shock written all over their faces before worry took over.
I could practically read their minds: 'Is everything we've planned about to blow up in our faces?'
Irvin spun away from us, shooting his parents some kind of secret look.
Pauline got to her feet, gesturing for Morris and me to sit down before heading off to grab some water.
Morris dropped onto the couch and raised his hand to stop her.
"Water's not really my thing. How about coffee instead? I mean, the Watson family's supposed to be part of Veridia's upper crust, right? Please tell me you can at least manage a decent cup of coffee."
Pauline's expression went sour instantly.
Talk about awkward.
The truth was, they were basically out of good coffee.
