Chapter 40 -  A Blade That Can Cut the Pinnacle Down to Dust (Delivering Some Psychological Trauma About Making Soul Masters Pay After Boarding)

Buzz!

The small silver-blue sword let out a faint hum. It activated on its own without needing Jinlin to trigger it.

Dispelling her dragon spear, Jinlin did not hesitate at all. She raised the sword and charged toward the draconic Douluo in front of her.

The enormous sub-dragon martial soul true body flashed a hint of disdain through its dragon eyes.

"Overestimating yourself!"

A black soul ring behind him flickered. Dense soul power gathered in his mouth, and with a loud boom, an overwhelmingly powerful dragon breath surged toward the Golden Dragon Girl.

Her feet abruptly shifted, pushing off the ground. Her body slid sideways and dashed forward in an instant. The earth beneath her fractured into a web of cracks. The deadly dragon breath brushed past the tips of her golden hair. Even with soul power amplification, Jinlin was not as strong as a titled Douluo, but she was far smaller, more focused in impact, and far more agile. Ordinary attacks were useless against her.

Stepping through flames and weaving under falling lightning from the chaotic battlefield, Jinlin charged at the sub-dragon soul master, the sword Zhefan at her waist gathering power.

The moment she received that sword, she knew exactly how to use it.

Black dragon breath, golden phoenix fire, earthy yellow force, green poisonous flame… the soul power of multiple titled experts flashed behind her. The refracted lights combined with her own energy, draping her in a faint golden dreamlike aura.

She was only a Soul Emperor. Even with her god-level martial soul, with ring-fusion tempering, she was still far from matching a titled Douluo. Yet she charged forward without hesitation.

Because her teacher never lied.

Just like how he had guided her into reaching Soul Emperor in a single year.

Buzz!

The energy reactor within the silver-blue sword erupted with brilliant light, and the entire blade forged from an extremely dense divine material turned into a flowing blue liquid.

Swish!

Jinlin raised the flowing blue light and slashed at the sub-dragon. Her small body looked minuscule before the massive creature. She could clearly see the lingering scorn in the dragon eyes larger than her face.

The sword struck, releasing an invisible blade of energy. It sliced through the sub-dragon's soul-ring defense without the slightest obstruction, as if cutting through water. Aside from a ripple in space, nothing seemed to happen.

"So it's just for show!"

He had suspected the girl couldn't break his defense, but since the soul tool came from that man, he had been a bit uneasy. Yet aside from being flashy, it seemed to do nothing.

Jinlin showed no reaction to his mockery beneath her golden helmet. She quietly lifted the now-solidified, lengthened blue-silver longsword.

"If that's all you have, then I'll just grab what… what did you do?!"

The sub-dragon Douluo originally intended to catch the girl and use her as leverage against Chen Fu. But suddenly, he realized that his martial soul true body was being blown apart grain by grain, like sand disintegrating in a gale.

His nine soul rings yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, black, black—appeared behind him in a dim light. He activated them one by one, but none of them responded.

"This sword is called Soul-Severing."

It can cut the highest peak down to mortal dust.

The Golden Dragon Girl, expressionless, walked forward as the massive sub-dragon dissolved into drifting motes of soul power.

A soul beast's emotions influence its soul skills. And a soul governs emotion.

Zhefan simply awakened leftover fragments of the soul and destroyed them completely.

"You… you! What did you do to me?!"

Seeing that his soul rings remained yet no soul skill responded, the sub-dragon Douluo, forced back into human form, trembled in disbelief. His internal soul power remained intact, and a Douluo's body was no weak thing, yet none of this gave him the slightest feeling of safety.

What use are nine soul rings if I can't use any of them?!

Jinlin watched silently as the Douluo backed away step by step, eventually turning to flee. She let out a quiet sigh.

Sometimes, it was almost funny. The bloodline-type martial soul true body—considered invincible—was something that could be severed.

This sword severs the soul. And the soul is the soul master.

Want to get on the bus first and buy the ticket later?

Sorry.

Her teacher does not allow that.

The blue-silver blade, compiled from super-dense Profound Heaven meteor-iron by Blueghost, sliced cleanly through his scaled skin. Even the spine tightly wrapped in muscle could not halt the blade in the slightest.

Holding the severed draconic head of the sub-dragon Douluo, Jinlin showed no joy at crossing realms to kill a titled powerhouse.

"This sword is called Form-Severing."

Is a titled Douluo's body strong?

Yes.

Is it still strong after losing all soul skills and martial soul true body?

Against a Golden Dragon martial soul enhanced by ring-fusion tempering, capable of wrestling with a hundred-thousand-year soul beast on physical strength alone?

Moreover, is the skull of a soul master—who can be hurt by hidden weapons, really harder than a ninth-rank melee soul tool designed to fight titled Douluo martial soul true bodies?

The scene of a Soul Emperor carrying the head of a titled Douluo made the battling titled experts fall silent for a moment.

They had been watching from the start. After the girl received a soul tool, she had used just two sword strikes to behead the Douluo who moments earlier had been pummeling her. It was eerie to the point of being monstrous.

Boom!

Someone couldn't stand it and attacked her.

Facing a stronger titled Douluo secretly launching an attack, Jinlin immediately threw the sub-dragon's head away, erupted with full strength, and sprinted unpredictably across the battlefield, changing direction rapidly. Every shift left deep web-like cracks in the metal-littered ground.

Dodging, she threw Zhefan toward Long Xiaoyao, who was being "tethered" in place by Chen Fu and reenacting a hyena-vs-lion skit. Her role was merely a side act assigned by her teacher. Now it was time for the real protagonist to appear.

Swish!

A speed-type titled Douluo attempted to seize the bizarre soul tool. He activated acceleration soul skills and turned into a streak of light, trying to intercept it early.

But could he truly succeed?

Chen Fu's soul tools may have flaws in other aspects, but their encryption was top-tier.

The speed-type Douluo outpaced all others, grabbed the flying Zhefan—

"Ah!"

He screamed. A piercing agony stabbed into his soul. His pure spiritual form appeared, showing nine colored spots attached to him, gnawing and assimilating his soul.

His mind shattered by spiritual injury, the Douluo plummeted from the sky. Long Xiaoyao arrived a moment later and slapped him into the lake with a huge splash. Whether he lived or died was unknown.

[Permission… granted]

The silver-blue Zhefan materialized in Long Xiaoyao's hand. A Blueghost subsystem within it transmitted all operating methods directly to his mind via spiritual waves.

"…This is quite the treasure."

Long Xiaoyao, learning Zhefan thoroughly for the first time, felt his eyelid twitch. Even he was unnerved by the sinister thing.

He looked at the eight super-Douluo from various factions currently surrounding him. Normal titled Douluo could not interfere in battles of his level.

"It's a bit out of place to say this now, but… this is all you've brought?"

The severing blade gave Long Xiaoyao tremendous confidence. Unlike low-rank soul masters who needed a 2.5-generation ark core to activate Zhefan, his Limit Douluo cultivation allowed him to unleash the sword's full potential.

Buzz!

Invisible spiritual sword energy blanketed all of Shrek. With one strike, the super Douluo who had entangled him for so long—the turtle-shell-like juggernaut—had his martial soul true body severed. Protected by his allies, he fled in panic, nearly sliced in half.

Buzz!

Another world-cleaving invisible sword descended. A thousand-meter long thread of sword energy slashed from the flowing blue blade in his hand. Super Douluo who once stood lofty and proud now fled in all directions while cursing.

A bald, green-flame-coated super Douluo failed to dodge in time and was grazed by the invisible edge.

Among the nine soul rings behind him, one black ring dimmed rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"Damn it! Clear Sky Sect, retreat!"

Realizing he had lost a soul skill instantly, the Poison-Immortal raged. His spiritual resistance prevented him from being cut through entirely, but even a graze cost him a soul skill. No matter how wealthy his clan, they could not afford such losses.

Thankfully, it wasn't his hundred-thousand-year ring, or he might have died from anger.

Seeing them retreat, Long Xiaoyao did not pursue. His priority was protecting Chen Fu. He had expected a difficult battle—yet hadn't expected that soul tools could be so wonderful, especially those from Chen Fu.

"Anyone still want to fight?"

Long Xiaoyao stepped on air, pointing the sword forward. Soul masters in that direction scrambled away.

Three examples already showed them the sword's effects.

"Retreat!"

They all knew this soul tool should never exist. It must be destroyed.

But it was in the hands of a rank-99 Limit Douluo.

Even peers of his level could only tank a few more cuts.

And their only Limit Douluo was still unconscious.

Soon, all the titled Douluo who came to join the chaos fled at full speed. They needed to return, gather reinforcements, and destroy the evil blade.

The super Douluo of the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect returned to Ning Tian, who was protected by Qian Duoduo. He knew she was the next sect master.

"So, can we finally have a proper conversation now?"

Taking his eyes off the conveniently unconscious Pavilion Lord, who was the only top expert unaffected by Zhefan, Chen Fu looked toward the fleeing Shrek Academy titled Douluo.

This was their territory, yet somehow Chen Fu now looked more like the master of the domain. Even with his cultivation ruined, pulling out a soul tool from underground had left them terrified.
