Chapter 4 - The Rejection

After a long time of being on top of me, he finally got up. I could only hear his footsteps and barely see his silhouette in the dim light.

"Now go, disappear like you always do," I told him, showing no emotion at all.

I watched his silhouette move toward the window, and just as he was about to leave, I spoke again.

"And as long as my mind rejects the idea of having a child, that's how it will be. I won't have one. You know very well that, as a she-wolf, I must desire it," I made it clear.

He said nothing; I just felt the rush of air as he leaped out the window. I quickly got up from the bed, but when I looked out, there was nothing—no trace of him at all.

The next morning.

After a shower, I went down to the dining room, sat at the table, and one of the maids served me breakfast.

A thought came to me—I needed to know more about my husband, Ragnar.

"Have you been working here long?" I asked with interest.

She spoke naturally. "Yes, a long time."

"Am I the first woman Ragnar has ever brought here?"

"Yes, the first and only."

"And why have you never seen him?" I asked anxiously.

She stayed silent for a few seconds before finally answering.

"No one has ever seen him. And the day he reveals himself to someone, there will be grave consequences," she finally said.

Her last words frightened me. It all made me feel in danger, yet at the same time, it only pushed me to uncover the truth.

I snapped out of my thoughts, and when I looked at the time, it was already late. Without asking any more questions, I left for the office.

After a thirty-minute drive, the driver dropped me off at the building.

When I entered, everyone was already working. The atmosphere was calm.

"Good morning," I said with a smile.

"Good morning," they all replied almost in unison.

I walked into what was now my new office and let myself fall into the chair.

I couldn't stop thinking about the maid's last words. What would happen if Ragnar revealed himself to someone? The uncertainty was eating at me.

As I was lost in thought, the office door opened. The great Hakon Frost stood before me.

"Good morning. How can I help you today?" I asked, standing up.

"Good morning, Leticia. I just wanted to know if you had any problems last night," he said casually.

I smiled nervously. That shouldn't matter to him, but I didn't dare say it aloud.

"I didn't have any problems at all, sir," I answered, embarrassed.

"That's good to hear. In five minutes, we're going to meet a client. Please be ready. I'll wait for you in the underground parking lot."

He didn't wait for a response and simply walked out.

I sank back into my chair, confused about why Hakon Frost made me so nervous.

Still, I didn't give my thoughts more time to wander. Instead, I grabbed my bag and headed down to the underground parking lot.

I looked around, trying to figure out which car was Hakon's, but I couldn't tell—until a black car stopped right beside me.

"Get in, please," he said.

Without a word, I got in, closed the door, and kept my eyes straight ahead.

Unexpectedly, I felt his breath near me. His face was close to mine.

He reached over, grabbed the seatbelt, and fastened it for me—since I hadn't done it myself.

"The seatbelt protects you from accidents," he said with a small smile.

"Thank you," I replied nervously.

After about twenty minutes, we arrived at a luxury restaurant.

We headed to a private area where there was only one table. That alone told me this client was important.

"Good morning, Mr. Brandon," said Hakon, shaking the man's hand.

"Good morning, Mr. Frost," he replied kindly.

Brandon's eyes fixed on me, making me feel uncomfortable.

"This is Leticia, the best employee in my company," Hakon said.

I only smiled. There was no need to say anything. Still, the man extended his hand, and out of courtesy, I offered mine.

"You're a beautiful woman," he said with eyes full of desire.

"Thank you, Mr… Brandon," I replied.

He still wouldn't let go of my hand. I tried to pull it away, but he held on.

"Let me invite you out tonight. Perhaps we could get to know each other better," he said.

I looked at him in surprise, a short silence crossing my lips.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Brandon, but we just met."

"That's the point—to get to know each other."

I glanced at Hakon, who remained calm, staring ahead.

"Mr. Hakon and I are together, so I can't go out with another man," I said unexpectedly.

Mr. Hakon looked straight at me but said nothing.

Then he took my hand and intertwined his fingers with mine.

"That's right. Leticia and I are together. I'm sorry, Mr. Brandon," he said, playing along.

Brandon looked embarrassed. He stepped aside, opened his folder, and after that, all that was heard were business discussions.

An hour later, we had finally closed the deal.

We went back to the car and got in without a word. Hakon started the engine, and we drove in complete silence.

When we returned to the building, we went down to the underground parking and took the elevator.

As soon as the doors closed, Hakon made a low sound.

"So… we're a couple now," he said.

"Forgive me, sir. I just didn't want Mr. Brandon to keep talking to me like that," I replied quickly, embarrassed.

Suddenly, Hakon stepped closer—our faces inches apart.

"We could be a couple in secret," he whispered.

I didn't see it coming. Hakon pressed his lips against mine.

I pushed him away immediately, my heart racing and my mind in chaos.

"Mr. Hakon, don't ever kiss me again—ever," I said nervously.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

"Whether you meant to or not, you did," I said firmly.

Before he could respond, the elevator doors opened. Without another word, I hurried back to my office.

I couldn't believe what had just happened—but that kiss… for some strange reason, it reminded me of my husband's.
