He didn't say anything as he could tell what should be made very clear to him.
''As much as I do not really enjoy being your partner in this, and it's very clear we would rather not have met than be stuck together, pretending to be genuinely interested in saving the world, I think I should tell you the plain truth.''
The silence after her words and the continuous rain falling heavily in the background couldn't overshadow the tension slowly rising between them.
''The truth is,'' she continued when he said nothing, ''I was never chosen to be your Tribulation guardian. We were both deceived and lied to. I am just an unfortunate immortal taken to be destined to save the world with you.''
She waited to see how he would respond. But it was irritating to see he was more or less bothered by that stunning revelation. Was she the only one overthinking it was a big deal to be forced and replaced to fulfil someone else's destiny?
Or did he simply not believe her?
