Chapter 32 - The Mirror Trial

The labyrinth of glass and bone shifted, its walls shimmering with reflections. Adrian staggered forward, his fists clenched, his jaw tight. Each surface rippled, showing fragments of his past—faces he thought forgotten, betrayals he thought buried.

Elara walked beside him, her gown trailing across the spectral floor. Her hand brushed his, steady despite the tremor in her voice. "They're testing you. They want to see if your bond with me can survive what you've hidden."

Adrian's breath caught. The first reflection solidified: a woman from his past, her smile sharp, her eyes cold. She whispered promises of freedom, of empire restored, if only he surrendered Elara.

Adrian's fury surged. "No. You're nothing but shadow." He struck the glass, the reflection shattering into smoke.

But another appeared. A rival he had betrayed, his voice echoing with venom. "You built your empire on lies. On sacrifice. Why should she trust you?"

Adrian staggered back, his breath ragged. The whispers rose, threading through the silence. Choose. Choose.

Elara's gaze held his, sorrow deepening. "They're not just testing your love. They're testing your truth. If you can't face it, they'll consume us both."

The labyrinth trembled. Reflections multiplied, each one showing Adrian's sins—contracts signed in blood, betrayals hidden in shadows, ambitions that devoured everything.

Adrian braced himself, fury burning, but fear gnawed at the edges of his certainty. He had built his empire on control, on bending the world to his will. But now, the curse demanded honesty.

And in the reflection, he saw himself—not the empire's ruler, not the man of control, but a figure fading into the faceless crowd, his lies feeding the curse that consumed him.
