I was sitting in the student council room, surrounded by stacks of files and scattered papers that seemed to multiply every time I looked away. I was tired of all the work. Some bastard who was supposed to handle the sports section just showed up to waste time and never even touched a single piece of paper. The room felt stuffy, the air heavy with the smell of old paper and printer ink.
Only Sarah was left in the room with me. She was buried in her laptop, fingers tapping steadily on the keys, focused like always. Everyone else was busy somewhere else in the school, leaving the place quiet except for the occasional rustle of pages.
"Alex, is it done? Do you need some help?" Sarah peeked around the side of her laptop screen and asked. She'd told me earlier this was the last piece of work m, after this, we could finally relax and focus on the upcoming exams.
"I'm working, Sarah. Can you just stop asking every five minutes?" I waved my hand dismissively, eyes fixed on the papers in front of me. I didn't even glance up at her.
"Why? I can't even be worried for my brother-in-law~" she teased, winking at me with her tongue sticking out just a little in that playful way she always did. She loved flirting like this, always calling me that to mess with me.
"Can you stop calling me that?" I said, annoyance creeping into my voice.
She stood up from her chair and walked over to me, hips swaying slightly with each step. She wore the usual school uniform—white blouse tucked neatly into a blue skirt, paired with thin black leggings that hugged her legs. But even in the standard outfit, she was no less stunning than Rose, who was her cousin after all. They shared that same natural beauty.
Sarah sat down close beside me, so close our shoulders brushed. The warmth of her body pressed lightly against my arm, and I could smell her faint perfume.
"You know, Alex, you worked hard. How about we go out sometime? Just the two of us. A little date~" she leaned forward forward, her face getting closer to mine.
Her soft lips touched mine locking into a kiss. I pushed her away wiping my mouth with the back of my hands.
"Sarah, You know I have Rose. I can't do that." I froze for a second, then shook my head quickly. She tilted her head, the smile never fading.
"So what? Rose doesn't have to know. It'll be our little secret. She won't even notice." My stomach twisted. I set the papers down and looked at her straight.
"No. I love Rose. I can't hurt her like that. I'm not cheating on her" Sarah's smile faltered. She frowned, just for a moment, something sharper flashing in her eyes.
"You really still love her that much? Even after she's changed?"
I blinked, confused. "What are you talking about? No matter how much she changes, I still love her. She's Rose. That's never going to change."
"So she didn't tell you anything. I knew it. Rose wouldn't tell you." Sarah let out a small sigh. She shook her head slowly, like she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
My heart skipped.
"Tell me what? What does she not tell me? What do you know, Sarah?" She held my gaze for a long second, expression unreadable. The room suddenly felt too quiet.
"Brother-in-law, you're so innocent," Sarah said softly, her voice almost sweet. She placed both hands on my chest, palms brushing slowly over my shirt. Her fingers spread wide, pressing gently, that sent a warm shiver through me.
Her breasts pushed forward slightly with the motion, straining against her white blouse, the faint outline of her bra visible through the thin material.
"I love it about you." she added, eyes locked on mine, lips curving into that familiar teasing smile.
I grabbed her wrist gently but firmly, lowering her hand away from my chest. Her face fell for a second, disappointment flashing in her eyes before she masked it with a small pout.
"Tell me what you know first," I said, voice low, trying to keep control even though my pulse had started racing again.
Sarah sighed, leaning back just a little but not pulling her hand away completely. Her fingers stayed loosely in mine, warm and soft.
"When was the last time you talked to her?"
"Just yesterday."
"Yesterday?" She raised an eyebrow, tilting her head. "So you didn't notice anything was off?"
I thought about it for a second. Rose's voice on the phone had sounded strange that before that day. When I met her she was half-naked, wet panties, the redness on her ass, that faint musky smell in her room that didn't match her usual shampoo. My stomach twisted again.
"She's cheating on you," Sarah said bluntly, watching my face for the reaction.
"What?" I stared at her, the words hitting like a slap.
"Sarah, that's enough. You're going too far. She would never do that. We love each other." I denied it instantly, voice rising a little. She had to be joking. Sarah was always teasing, always pushing boundaries, but this was too much, even for her.
Rose and I had been childhood friends. We'd grown up together, shared everything. She'd always been the one constant in my life, the one person I could trust completely. We loved each other more than anything. The thought of her with someone else felt impossible.
Sarah didn't laugh. She didn't wink or tease this time. She just looked at me, expression serious for once, almost pitying.
