Chapter 22 - 22. Council Duties

The next few days passed without any big trouble. Exams were super close, just a week away now. So I spent most of my time buried in books.

I didn't talk to Shawn much after that day we ran into Yumi. He lost his virginity to her.

I wasn't really jealous, but it did make me feel a little down. Here he was, no girlfriend, and he got the ice queen of the school.

While me? I have a girlfriend and the most I've gotten is a thighjob from Rose.

'Damn it.' I have the most beatiful girl I have ever seen, goddess of our school and I'm still a virgin.

But whatever. It's just a matter of time. I only have to wait until graduation, and then I can do it with her as much as I want.

All this waiting will be worth it.

'I'll be the one to take her first time.' That thought was the only thing that kept me going.

Mom spent her days exercising more, trying new yoga poses she learned from TV and the internet. She did everything at home.

I had to say she looked way too young and hot in those Yoga clothes, especially when doing the poses.

I was glad she never took Mike up on his "private training" offer. That would've been a disaster—Mom alone with him. I wouldn't even imagine that.

Speaking of Mike, I barely saw him. Heard he was busy helping his dad with some campaign stuff. I spotted him at the baseball field a couple times, but I kept my distance. No way I was getting close again.

Besides studying, I spent some time with Rose. We went on a few dates—cafés, walks in the park. We even for hiking one day. She got so tired on the way back that I had to carry her piggyback for a while.

She laughed the whole time, arms tight around my neck, her head resting on my shoulder. Her breasts squished flat against my back, soft and warm. It made carrying her feel... different. Good different.

Those moments made everything feel normal again.

At home Lily was as clingy as ever. She always stuck close to me, wearing just her oversized t-shirt with nothing underneath. It made me hard without meaning to, every time.

Yumi was the school's student council president. After she transferred out, there was no one to take her place... until just yesterday.

Sarah, Rose's cousin, got selected as the new president. It wasn't a surprise. She was vice president and super smart—always top in academics. No one was better for the job.

Today they held a meeting in the student council room. Sarah sat in the center seat, looking serious. Everyone else took the sofas around the coffee table.

Rose became the new vice president because of her good work. Besides Sarah and Rose, there were a few other members: Finn from my class, Casey from the volleyball team, Jane—I think from another class—and lastly...

Mike.

That bastard was in the student council too. Turns out Yumi added him before she left. When she was gone, he showed up saying he's a member now. Sarah tried to kick him out at first, but rules said he couldn't be removed until the semester ends. So they're stuck with him.

For now he stayed quiet and well-behaved. Too quiet. It felt suspicious.

Sarah didn't push it either—exams were close and she was stressed. She needed more people to help.

They talked about student complaints and other work stuff. But all I could think was, 'Why the hell am I here?'

Today Sarah suddenly barged into my class while I was reading. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the council room without explaining anything.

And now here I was, sitting with them, listening to whatever they were discussing.

"...so that's the conclusion. Now let's welcome the new members who joined the student council—Alex and Mike." Everyone clapped and cheered. Rose looked so happy, smiling big at me.

'What?' It hit me like a truck. She dragged me here to join the council. I would've said no before, but knowing Mike was in it too... now I was ready.

"Meeting's over. I hope everyone works hard and does their job well. Dismissed." People started standing up and leaving the room.

"Alex! Wait, I want to talk," Sarah called from behind.

I gave Rose a quick nod, telling her to go ahead. She smiled and left with the others.

I turned and sat back down on the sofa, waiting for Sarah.

Sarah closed the door behind the last person and turned to me with a tired sigh.

"Why didn't you tell me before dragging me here?" I asked, sitting back on the sofa.

She plopped down next to me, closer than I expected, and shrugged.

"I knew you'd say no if I asked first. And we really needed more people. Exams are coming, summer camp is coming... everything's a mess."

I nodded, waiting.

"You joined because of Mike, right? Or because of Rose? Or... both?" She leaned back, crossing her legs.

"Both," I admitted. No point lying.

She smiled a little. "Smart answer."

"I don't like him either," she went on, voice lower. "The way he talks, like he owns the room. The way he behaves, all fake nice. And the way he looks at at me gives me creep... "

My stomach twisted. "Yeah... exactly."

"It's creepy" she said, glancing at me. "He stares at me when he thinks no one's watching. And at Rose too, sometimes. Makes my skin crawl."

I agreed without saying anything. She was right. Completely right. We sat quiet for a second.

"Summer camp is coming soon," she said, changing the subject a little.

"It's a big event. Teachers are pushing hard. That's why I couldn't kick Mike out even if I wanted. They told me to keep him until next semester, at least until camp passes. We're short on people. Deficit of manpower or whatever they call it."

She looked at me sideways. "That's also why I dragged you in. We need help. And... I figured you'd want to keep an eye on things."

"I was worried about Rose. With him around here all the time..." I nodded slow.

"See? Smart choice." Sarah scooted a little closer, her knee brushing mine.

Then she grinned, that teasing look coming back.

"Plus... it'll be nice having you around. Good company." She leaned in, shoulder touching mine, eyes sparkling.

"Brother-in-law working with me every day... who knows what could happen?"

My face got hot. "S-stop calling me that."

"Why? It's cute." She poked my arm. "You get all red. Rose would laugh if she saw."

"I... I should go." I stood up fast.

She giggled behind me. "Running away already?"

I didn't answer. Just opened the door and left, her laughing soft behind me.

To be continued…
