Chapter 9 - Chapter 9, Vol 1: Problems

"So you saw how I..." Kashka stuttered in shame.

He found it very embarrassing that someone else saw how he jumped off from that balcony, after all, in his opinion, this was only his business.

"with all due respect, but what happened there is only my business, I hope you understand" Kashka continued, visibly tense.

It was obvious that this topic was very uncomfortable for him. Aergon then looked at Kashka sympathetically

"I completely understand what you mean. I'll try not to address this "topic" again" Aergon replied sympathetically and now turned back to the forest path.

"hm, can he understand why I did it? I'm not quite sure but something about his look tells me that he does..."

Kashka thought to himself as the two of them walked silently along the forest path for a few minutes, when they now reached the tree line and arrived in the lowlands.

He suddenly looked in amazement at the gigantic stone walls in the distance, lit up everywhere by torches. The majestic sight unconsciously distracted him from his dark thoughts, as he had never seen anything like this before with his own eyes.

"Wow... you only see something like that in video games... no, video games are a joke compared to this sight..." Kashka muttered in amazement, whereupon Aergon looked at him confused

"Eh, video games? oh, that must be something from your world, I guess" Aergon replied relaxed, whereupon Kashka turned to him in surprise.

"Oh sorry, I was just thinking out loud. But yes, video games are something like... eh like... Mini worlds that you can enter. There are thousands of them in my world and each one is unique and has its own rules..." Kashka spoke thoughtfully.

"By the goddess... you can "create" worlds? Your people must truly master powerful magic if they can do such a thing" Aergon replied with an astonished expression on his face.

"Not really. Unfortunately, there is no magic or anything like that in my world. But our technology is much more advanced than in this world."

Aergon looked shocked for a moment, because he found the concept of a world without any magic very lonely and to a certain extent sad.

"A world without magic? That's... hard to imagine. But that would also explain the strange buildings I saw in my vision... Let's go on, we'll be right there"

The two then walked through the rather flat grass landscape until they came to a laid stone path and followed it to the gigantic stone gate on the city wall, while the fresh evening wind blew through their faces.

"If we're right at the city guards at the entrance gate, then just leave the talking to me" Aergon said to Kashka

"huh, uh, all right."

Kashka and Aergon had now almost arrived at the entrance gate when the 2 guards stationed there noticed them

"HEY YOU THERE! NO IN AND OUT DURING THE NIGHT..." said the city guard, and fell silent immediately when he saw Aergon.

"Oh, please forgive me, Blessed One. I... I did not recognize you in this darkness. Uh, of course you and your companion can enter" the city guard continued.

"OPEN THE GATE! THE BLESSED ONE IS HERE!" the guard shouted with all his might over the city wall, whereupon the gigantic stone gate of the city opened inwards.

"Thank you very much" Aergon said politely and entered together with Kashka

"of course, blessed one. I wish you a good stay" the city guard replied politely.

Torches were burning everywhere, which were attached to the walls of the houses. closed stalls could be seen on the dark streets, but there were very few or no people on the streets, which was probably due to the fact that it was late in the evening.

"I don't know about you, but I'm pretty tired. I can show you the city in more detail tomorrow, Kashka. Besides, it's a completely different feeling to explore the city during the day anyway"Aergon said calmly

"I'm glad you say that. I honestly feel pretty much like I'm dead after what happened today. but where should I sleep?" Kashka answered, whereupon Aergon pointed to a property far away.

"This is an accommodation camp for groups like the Kellorth: groups that actively fight against the Witcher Church. The real purpose of this property is that if the Witcher Church were to launch a major offensive against this city, groups like the Kellorth and other anti-cultist groups would have a place to plan and sleep" Aergon said matter-of-factly.

The two then went to the property and took 2 single rooms that are next to each other. Each room consisted of a comfortable bed, a small wooden table with a candle and a window from which you could see the main street inside the city.

Kashka then lay down in his bed completely exhausted and stared at the ceiling above him. "Hmph... how fast life can change... this morning everything was normal and now I'm in a strange fantasy world."

"even though so many bad things happened today, the only thing I feel right now is... an indifferent emptiness... I wonder why that is so?" Kashka thought to himself, whereupon the faces of his parents went through his head for a moment.

"hm, right... what happened that day is problably the reason I guess..." He thought whereupon he cloesed his exhausted eyes and he went to sleep...
