What is this?.. Where am I?… What are those bright lights glittering in the distance? This atmosphere.., this pressure.., it feels suffocating. Am I going to die ?
Slowly regains consciousness and opens his eyes. Did I just black out? What was that vision? It felt so real and scary. What was I doing anyway?
[Remembers something]
oh.. SHIT!
A boy drenched in blood and soaked in wounds is standing, well barely managing to stand on his two feet in the middle of a road. Surrounding him there are many vehicles which seemed to have just met with an accident. Cars exploding, people screaming out their throats in fear, ground is being drenched with blood, skies being lit by an eerie bloody red moon. Amidst the chaos a tiny drop of blood drips from eye lashes of the boy. The boy struggles to see something in the distance. His pupils start to dilate abnormally. Then his vision becomes clear, he sees a parade of demonic creatures heading towards him.
An hour before :-
A cold breeze blows through the night skies. People are laughing together while watching TV. Couples enjoy the warmth while embracing. Bakers are working more than ever. It is that time of year where you sit with your family waiting till midnight. It is 31st December, currently 11:05 PM. 2024.
Just as light and darkness coexist, while some people are celebrating, some are working hard.
A cashier in a convenience store is scanning some items. Sir, "that would be 50 dollars".
Well this story isn't certainly about the cashier but it's about the weird customer who is buying rat traps on New years. He gives money and leaves the store holding a plastic cover in his right hand which has rat traps, party poppers, medicine, injection, and some other necessities. After walking out the store he sees a sign saying gas station ahead in 150 metres pointing towards left, he ignores that and walks towards right.
What kind of luck do I have for me to get hospitalised for one month due to a never before seen kind of food poisoning. I shouldn't have ignored the rat noises from the roof. Well it's not like I have someone at home waiting for me. Even my one and only family, my grandma died 2 years ago. Since then I have been doing part time jobs for food and studying on my own from online books. Even my name sucks. Imagine having "Kaelus" as your name, even the nurse laughed after reading my name. No magic, no swords, no adventure, no fun. What kind of life is this? "Sighs deeply".
The boy was a thrill seeker.
Kaelus was also deep thinker. Kaelus also prefers to be called "Kai". After walking for 100 meters Kai suddenly hears a loud sound from a dark alleyway on the right. He goes there to see what is happening, there he finds a dim street light illuminating the place. Under the dim street light he sees a person holding a beer and a person smoking while watching another person hit a guy on the ground. The dark alleyway is just an open space with three sides covered with buildings. It also had some dumpsters.
Are they seriously bullying right before new year?Should I help? Kai starts overthinking what to do but then he tries to call the police station, weird why is the service down, is it because of new year?. I can't do anything now. I tried my best. Anyway they will leave him alone after some hits. Kai sees the guy with the beer giving a knife to the person with the cigarette.
Kai immediately runs towards the guy with beer and grabs him and throws him faraway. Due to the sheer force the beer bottle shatters after falling on the ground and the beer spreads all over ground. Then without wasting any time Kai throws a quick punch towards the guy who was smoking. The guy barely manages to dodge the punch and quickly retreats back. He begins to take a defensive stance. Kai puts his fists in front of his face taking a boxing stance. Kai and the guy stare for 3 seconds waiting for the other person to attack. The guy after losing patience takes his cigarette and smokes. Taking this chance, Kai rushes towards him to knock him out.
Kai almost reaches the guy but then he feels a stab on his back, he looks back to see the guy with beer stabbing him. Then he holds Kai's arms, making him unable to move. The other two guys start punching Kai. After a few punches Kai's face is full of bruises and his eyes filled with his own blood. Kai in his mind curses himself asking when he had to make such a decision, it was a stupid decision to go against 3 people alone. The choice was simple, he just had to ignore it and walk home to enjoy a warm bath, it's not as if he has a strong sense of justice. But then he thinks again, a warm bath would feel nice in this weather, playing games I would enjoy the time if I did that, working hard and saving money I would be set for the future but where is the thrill doing that. Imagine going against three older guys who have knives in an unknown alleyway to save a stranger at 11 pm on 31st December right before new year. WHEN WOULD I GET A CHANCE LIKE THAT. THE THRILL. He smirks while having thoughts like these.
Ummm.. yes Kai is a thrill seeker, he finds thrill in new kinds of experiences.
OHHHH YES HIT ME HARDER. MAKE ME BLEED Kai shouts suddenly.
WTF! The three guys get scared for a second hearing the shouting. They all get confused and look at each other. Suddenly one of the guys drops the cigarette in his mouth and starts pointing towards the top of the building on the right. The other two turn back to see where he was pointing. Immediately after seeing something, two guys start running towards the road as if their life had depended on it. After a few seconds Kai heard a loud thud and the guy with a cigarette started vomiting. The legs of the guys who ran were still running but it's just that their heads weren't attached.
Kai squinted and tried to see what was happening but there was blood in his eyes which made him unable to see properly.
After a struggle he finally was able to see a little bit. There was a dark figure in the distance near the corpses but Kai couldn't understand what it was, then as if to help him see, clouds moved away letting moon light light up the alleyway. A 3 meter large monster appeared from the darkness. Kai tries to squint his eyes to see properly.
Kai couldn't believe what he was seeing, in front of him stood a demonic creature straight out of fiction, its body was similar to that of a human except its head was like a bear and it had horns and it had long and sharp claws. Its body was very muscular and it was no less than 3 meters! The monster then grabs the head of the person who ran and starts eating. It was truly disgusting, the monster followed the laws of the jungle, it hunts and eats without hesitation.
After seeing the monster eat a person's head, Kai was shaking from fear, he also felt like vomiting. Kai started overthinking in his head what should I do ? How do I survive this come on damn it, think, think THINK. The monster has the physique of a human, and has toned muscles. Most probably the skin is tough and only joints or eyes are weak points. It seems to be alone, meaning it doesn't work in groups, maybe to avoid sharing food. There is only one exit to this place and that is covered by the monster. Think, think, quick, I don't have time, I should come up with something before he finishes eating.
After 1 minute of pondering Kai came up with something. Kai musters strength to move. He grabs the person on the ground who is still shaken and says come on we have to escape, I have a plan. Kai and the person then walk towards the monster, the monster then starts giving a creepy smile as its food is walking towards it. After being 3 meters before the monster, Kai pushes the person to the left side of the monster. The person tries to run, but the monster turns left and cuts him down instantly, soon the monster realises Kai is gonna escape and it turns right to see him. BOOM! Kai used party poppers, the monster closed its eyes due to sudden explosion, kai than immediately take used corpses on ground and jumped on to monsters eye level and then he holded knife in his left hand which was used to stab him and he held an injection in his right hand the monster opens eyes but kai stabs its eyes and immediately he kicks its chest and jumps backward to avoid the monster's defensive slash.
I did it, hoof, he pants heavily. Kai without wasting a second he throws rat traps on the body of the monster which sticks. He then throws rocks near the monster which he collected while walking towards it. The monster which just lost sight is already in panic, it tries to slash in the direction the rock fell. Kai keeps throwing rocks and in between them he tries to slash with a knife but he gets a cut near his arm. He keeps throwing and then suddenly he throws a rat trap which sticks near the monster's thigh. The monster was in so much confusion that it cut its own leg.

Kai in his mind, Stupid monster,I knew it was barbanian when it ate food raw. The fight was too easy. The monster tries to move forward and slash but Kai just throws a stone to confuse it and move to the other side. The monster from losing too much blood got too tired of this. It then started howling, the sound it made was so loud and powerful that it could be heard from several kilometres. It then fell on the ground due to loss of blood.
Shit, I made a mistake, I didn't expect it to call for help. Kai immediately takes the monster blood in his injection and starts injecting himself with it. It was easier to take the blood because Kai had a peripheral IV catheter.
After two minutes, the red light from the moon reveals that the top of the three buildings surrounding Kai are covered with monsters.
