Chapter 145: The Crimson Beast of Konoha
Might Guy, Genma Shiranui, and Ebisu stood frozen, facing down the legendary Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. The air was thick with killing intent.
Then, a flash of green landed between them and their executioners.
"Dad?!" Guy's voice was a mixture of disbelief and panic. "What are you doing here? You're a Genin!"
Might Dai took a firm stance, his expression uncharacteristically severe. "No time to talk! All of you, run! I'll hold them off!"
"Run?!" Guy cried out, desperation clawing at his throat. "Dad, they're all Jounin! The Seven Swordsmen! You can't fight them alone!"
"I have the Eight Inner Gates Formation!" Dai declared, his voice resonating with a final, unshakable resolve.
Guy's eyes widened in horror. "But that technique...!"
"This is self-discipline!" Dai flashed his son a brilliant, thumbs-up smile, a stark contrast to the grim reality. "Now is the time to protect what's most precious to you with your entire being! This is the path to survival I've carved with my life! Now... Open! The Eight Inner Gates!"
A cataclysmic surge of chakra erupted from Might Dai's body. Crimson steam, the very vapor of his life force, billowed around him. The ground at his feet cracked. The sheer, oppressive aura made the seven Mist ninja recoil a step, their smug confidence replaced by primal alarm.
...
Kagenori, fighting a distance away, suddenly froze mid-motion. His Observation Haki screamed a warning, sensing a spike of power so immense it felt like a sun had ignited on the battlefield.
What is that? he thought, his expression turning grave. Has Kiri sent a Jinchuriki?
Without a second thought, he broke away from his engagement, a blur of speed racing toward the epicenter of the terrifying energy.
...
Back in the forest, Guy stared at his father's back, now wreathed in the crimson aura of certain death. Tears streamed down his face unbidden. "Dad..."
Might Dai, enduring the agony of his cells tearing themselves apart, forced another encouraging smile. "Guy! True victory isn't about defeating the strong! It's about protecting what's truly important! Work hard! Grow strong! You are Konoha's beautiful, wild beast! But until those new leaves sprout... let my flames light the way for you!"
Guy bit his lip until he tasted blood, his grief hardening into iron determination. He wiped his tears away with a rough swipe of his arm. "You will always be my pride, Dad! Genma! Ebisu! We're leaving!"
"But—!" Genma and Ebisu protested, their eyes fixed on the lone figure facing seven legends.
"He's made his choice!" Guy yelled, his voice cracking with emotion. "We can't let his sacrifice be for nothing!"
The three Genin turned and fled into the forest.
A single, proud tear traced a path through the grime on Might Dai's cheek. "And you... are my eternal pride," he whispered.
Then, his focus snapped back to the Swordsmen. They looked upon him now not with contempt, but with a healthy, growing fear. They were facing a cornered beast that had just set itself on fire.
Might Dai moved.
He appeared instantly before one of the swordsmen, Ameyuri Ringo, the wielder of the dual Kiba blades. She was fast, but not fast enough. Her eyes widened in shock as he simply threw a punch—not at her, but at the air in front of her.
"Evening Elephant!"
A colossal, invisible air cannon fired from his fist. It struck Ringo square in the abdomen before she could even fully draw her blades. The sound was a sickening crunch of shattered bone and armor. She was launched backward like a ragdoll, carving a trench through the forest before slamming into a distant rock face, leaving a crater of pulverized stone. She did not get up.
The remaining six stood frozen for a heartbeat. One of their own, a master swordsman, had been obliterated in a single, incomprehensible blow.
"Longsword Ninja Art: Earth Spider Sewing!" Fuguki Kushimaru, wielder of the Nuibari, unleashed the needle and wire of his sword, trying to entrap Dai's feet.
"Blast Sword Technique!" Jinpachi Munashi, master of the Kabutowari, hurled a volley of explosive tags to seal Dai's escape.
"Sew!"
"Blast!"
Their coordinated attack was perfect. The wires snaked upward to slice, the tags sizzled to incinerate.
Might Dai stomped. The earth beneath him exploded outwards, severing the chakra wires. The resulting shockwave scattered the burning tags harmlessly into the air.
The pain was excruciating. The recoil from the first Evening Elephant had already fractured the bones in his arm. Gritting his teeth against the white-hot agony, he unleashed two more concussive blasts.
Kushimaru and Munashi had no time to react. The invisible fists of air hammered into them, pulverizing their bodies instantly. Two more craters bloomed in the forest floor, the final resting places of two more Swordsmen.
In the span of moments, three of the seven were dead.
The remaining four—Juzo Biwa, Fuguki Suikazan, Raiga Kurosuki, and Jinin Akebino—could only feel one thing: pure, undiluted terror. Victory was impossible.
"Run!" one of them screamed, and the legendary Seven Swordsmen broke, scattering into the trees like frightened birds.
Might Dai did not pursue. His body was failing. Both arms hung uselessly at his sides. A smile of grim satisfaction touched his lips. Guy... it's up to you now.
...
"So this is the Eighth Gate," Kagenori murmured, having arrived just in time to see the Swordsmen break and flee. He watched from a high tree branch, his Sharingan passively recording the scene. "And those four... the survivors. He killed three of them."
He had not expected to witness this. The system had not prompted him, but he knew he was observing a pivotal, tragic moment.
The power on display was staggering. The craters spoke for themselves.
He settled on the branch to watch the final act of this play.
On the ground, Might Dai took a deep, shuddering breath. He placed his broken hands on the ground, assuming a runner's starting stance.
"Gate of Death, OPEN!"
The crimson steam around him intensified, erupting into a furious pillar of energy. The ground shattered in a wide radius around him. The steam coalesced, twisting and forming into the shape of a massive, roaring dragon's head made of pure, volatile chakra.
Kagenori's Sharingan pupils contracted. Such chakra... A dragon... This must be...
Might Dai became a crimson comet. He crossed the distance to the fleeing Jinin Akebino in an instant.
"Night Guy!"
He launched a kick. It wasn't a technique; it was a cataclysm. The dragon of chakra followed the trajectory of his leg. The kick connected with Akebino's back.
There was no scream, only the sound of a body being utterly and completely annihilated. The force of the kick didn't just kill Akebino; it used his body as a projectile, carving a canyon through the forest, sending a plume of rock and dust soaring into the sky. The shockwave alone sent Suikazan and Raiga tumbling like leaves in a hurricane.
Might Dai slid to a stop at the end of the newly formed ravine, his body finally giving out. The crimson steam vanished as suddenly as it had appeared.
