Chapter 2 - •What… and He’s My Partner?

It was a regular Monday morning.

The kind Meera Sharma handled with her usual grace — calm steps, crisp formals, and the kind of confidence that made people move aside without being asked.

The youngest manager in the company.

Respected. Trusted. Admired.

She had earned every bit of it.

She didn't know that today, her carefully built world was waiting to crack.

By noon, she entered the conference room where her boss was already discussing numbers and deadlines. Meena took her seat, flipping open her notepad, unaware that life was about to twist sharply.

"Alright, team," her boss said. "We have a new project — a big one. The kind that will decide our next promotions."

Meena straightened, focused.

"And for this," he continued, "you'll be working with someone from the marketing department."

Nothing unusual.

Until he added the name.

"Aditya Singh."

Her pen slipped from her hand.

Her heart stopped.

Her breathing paused.

Her past came rushing back like she had just removed a bandage from a half-healed wound.

Aditya Singh.

The boy who had broken her five years ago.

The man now standing across the table from her.

Same steady eyes.

More mature, less reckless… but still holding that spark she had tried so hard to forget.

Their eyes met.

A five-second stare that felt like five years compressed.

She didn't blink.

Neither did he.

Everyone else in the room sensed something,

but nobody understood what.

Her boss kept talking — deadlines, strategy, timelines — but Meera's mind was blank, racing, drowning.

All she could think was:

"Why him? Out of the entire city, why him?"

The Meeting Ends

People started leaving, but Aditya didn't move.

He walked toward her slowly, voice soft.

Aditya: "I… didn't know it would be you."

Meera held her expression still, cold.

Meera: "Neither did I. Unfortunately."

He exhaled, eyes dropping for a second.

Silence stretched.

Meera: "Let's keep it professional."

Aditya: "Of course… okay, ma'am."

Aditya: "I'm looking forward to working with you."

That last line stung her like a needle.

She turned and walked out before her emotions could show.

Back at Her Desk

She opened the project file, but the first thing she saw was his name — bold, printed, impossible to ignore.

Aditya Singh.

Her chest tightened.

"Kyu bhagwan… kya galti ki thi maine?

He broke me five years ago…

and now I have to sit with him every single day?"

She shut the file hard, leaning back in her chair.

Everything felt unreal, unfair, unwanted.

"Everything sucks, to be honest
