Chapter Fifty Nine – For the Twins.
Angel woke up before the twins this time.
The room was quiet, the kind of quiet that felt soft instead of heavy. Morning light slipped through the curtains in thin lines, landing on the floor and the edge of the bed. She lay still for a moment, listening to the sound of breathing beside her.
Malik was on his back, mouth slightly open, one hand resting on his chest. Mara had kicked the blanket off her legs and turned sideways in her sleep, her knee pressed into Angel's thigh.
Angel smiled faintly.
She reached out and pulled the blanket back over Mara, careful not to wake her. The small action made something warm move inside her chest. It felt simple. It felt right.
She stayed there for a while, watching them sleep.
These two little humans depended on her.
Not Zahid. Not the house. Not the plans.
Her.
The thought settled deep.
When Malik stirred and rubbed his eyes, Angel leaned closer.
"Morning," she whispered.
